    Matt Thornton is an amazing instructor. I am very impressed at how he delivers guidance: low-key, but high-value. Besides being a brilliant explanation of the mount, it is an amazing demonstration of how to teach almost any subject. He gets completely out of his own way when he explains things. It is worth watching even if you don't practice BJJ.

      @@resonance10 One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. You have a source for claiming he was a piece of shit? I have to assume for now that you are a serious racist if you think that terrorist action against an apartheid state waging a war of violent oppression on the majority of its population make you a bad person.

      @@errcoche go follow him on Facebook. It's the reason I unfollowed him. He has this weird theory of how horrible the man was but never once denounced the man before him. I remember when the man Was a Buddhist and lead me to zen Buddhism and the teachings of Alan Watts. Needless to say the man has taken a massive detour in his human existence. His brand of atheism is essentially militant as he trolled the likes of Deepak Chopra on Twitter and has a friendship with creepy Sam Harris; who is another garbage human being. The man is toxic.

    • @errcoche
      @errcoche 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@roninblax OK dude. Thanks. I have read quite a bit of Watts myself and meditate daily ( Vipassana ). I was briefly involved in TM back in the late 80s but the creepiness and "cultiness" drove me away. Chopra is a prize knob in my opinion but trolling people is not very constructive. I am very vaguely familiar with Harris but see references to Dawkins and Hitchens. Not my cup of tea. Always suspicious of the over opinionated.
      My visual takeaway from the video is the ancient black belt. Strikes me as a massive affectation. I like to use things until they are worn out but there would seem to be so much ego in that belt. It needs to be composted.
      He is a good instructor, no taking that away from him.

    • @roninblax
      @roninblax 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@errcoche I agree that Chopra is a bit of a wanker. Anybody who is a spiritual thinker, as well as a previous guest on Oprah raises a bit of suspicion with me. I have a friend who blindly follows this guru in India. She races about the man being a prophet and a psychic healer. I googled the man's net worth and it's in the billions. Billions! Big bright Red flag hotter than the sun. Not to say that he doesn't have things to say that will improve someone's life. Though I am not religious or believe in any particular faith, I adhere to a code of helping others and being a source of kindness and love to all that I approach..... Until they no longer deserve it. With that said, if faith saves a man from killing himself or anybody else, who am I to tell them that they are stupid? I am merely an electron in the scale of the universe. I do my part in a positive manner and feel that whatever it is that you believe will make a positive impact on the world then all the power to you. Matt has a right to his opinion, as does Trump, but I have a right to my opinion of Matt and for now I find him toxic and arrogant. 🙏🏼
      Matt is a great instructor, but my principles take me in any other direction than towards his teaching.

    so good to watch your approach to improving. Incredible how a good teacher can lead you to such dramatic improvement in a short time, especially when the student is aggressive with their application. Watching you learning and applying your new techniques against pressuring opponents is great to watch. Especially with your reflections.

    this is bloody amazing. I think this could be the best video you've posted thus far on your channel. To see such a sudden transformation with very limited drilling was bizarre but phenomenal. It was like a 30 minute Martial Arts Journey watching you advance so quickly. More videos like this if possible, doesn't have to be even with grappling, just 20-30 minute masterclasses documenting your improvement. That would be awesome.

I would highly recommend him to anyone. In addition to the names that were mentioned, some current MMA fighters that are part of his BJJ lineage include Connor McGregor and Eryk Anders. I liked this video. There is a lot of good stuff. One of the biggest things about the mount is that you need to know when to bail and transition. When your small you hold for as long as you can before you swing into transitional position. The reason you got turned is becaus you allowed him to get the underhook. For the most part, low rankings belts might push on the shoulders, but high ranking belts push on the hips and knees. They won't give up their arms because of the armbar.

    The German Jiu-Jitsu mount is also pretty effective. Basically you go into low mount and hook your legs into your partner's legs and spread your legs. You also cross his arms on his body and lay on that. Put your elbows/forearms in that little nuc between his shoulder and breast cage and you've restricted the airflow. Then pick up his head and do a neck lever if you want. You do have to stop by yourself though, there is no way to tap.
    It's also interesting how everyone crosses their feet in seiza except you

    Rokas- It seems like the Aikido exercises in seiza don't give an aikidoka any advantage in going naturally to a base when rollin in BJJ. Do any of the aikido principles like pulling and turning when pressed, irimi toward the blind side, or the balance breaking seem to be carrying over at all? Also, have you found any of the tai sabaki useful in the striking sparring there?

    Thats very very similar to gracie combative positional control (with high swim) and with reflex development drill !
    Dont look down on Aikido. It was created with the prevailing context AT THE TIME. Samurai time,sword fighting thus, nikkyo technique.It has value and respectable. Some or even most of the principles of Aikido overlaps with ju jutsu (yes thats japanese where jui jitsu was derived ,someone just gave it a different spelling - then they say jui jitsu means gentle art but its root came from ju jutsu where it means pliable,soft etc - its the same. Bottomline jui jitsu came and IS ju jutsu. Thats a fact )
