    Hi! Thank you so much for this comprehensive video! Man , I really love the harp mic positions! Just wanna ask you what do you usually use for the reverbs in your projects as you mentioned earlier in the video that you are not really a fan of the bbc- included reverb?

      Hello, thank you for your comment, glad you enjoyed the video :) ! The reverb I use the most is Neoverb by Isotope (www.izotope.com/en/products/neoverb.html) - It has a 10 day free trial, very user friendly and creates great results quickly.

    Great video! I just got Core in the Black Friday sale. Almost had the temptation within the same sale to get Pro, but you made me realize my 2012 Macbook Pro with 16 Gb, even with its upgraded 2 Tb internal SSD and external 2Tb SSD will probably not be able to take full advantage of it.

    Would PRO allow leaders + close mic mix to be used for a faux quartet arrangement? I'm working around a real band mix so I'm looking for the feel of small group with close mics more than an authentic quartet (classsical) style recording. Great video with a lot of useful info BTW!!

    • @Joe-blogcomposer
      @Joe-blogcomposer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It could, and you would even have the stereo and other close mics to mess with as well so you can get the EXACT close feel you want (and stereo field). With Pro mics + leaders you can get a close as possible (sometimes I feel too close) and as far back as you like. Thank you for the comment and glad you enjoyed it 😊

    Thanks for this excellent video. Very clear and informative.
    I currently have the discover version and have noticed a few oddities in some of the instruments. As an example I have the tuba-long loaded and if I play all the white notes between D2 and D3 I notice a change in the sound from A2 onwards. It becomes a bit quieter and muffled even though the notes are of the same velocity.
    Perhaps it’s because it’s the free version but I wanted to ask you, before I consider purchasing an upgrade, if it is the same in the core version? There may be a perfectly good explanation for the transition but I am strictly an amateur in this regard and would be happy to be enlightened on the matter. It happens with other instruments in just the same manner so certainly not only on this one instrument.
    Many thanks again.

    • @Joe-blogcomposer
      @Joe-blogcomposer  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Overall with it being such a big library there is the rare case of a bad sample (not that I’ve really noticed more then a couple ) but since the beginning they have added fixes. I will double check the tuba for you and get back to you tomorrow about that l, thank you for your comment! :)

    • @Jim47ww
      @Jim47ww ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could it just be a natural feature of orchestral sounds? Maybe just the organic nature of the interaction between the player and their instruments? Am I possibly expecting too much uniformity across the range of any given instrument. I know that on a guitar the same note can be played in many different places on the fretboard and each one sounds quite different due to the different dynamics of each string.
      Is it just the coming together of an analogue instrument within a digital environment that is causing the perception?
      It’s just that it’s so noticeable in certain instances and I wondered if there might be a way to minimise the impact while getting that natural feel?

    • @Jim47ww
      @Jim47ww ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would still be nice to know if this variation in sounds is present in the core version and I wonder if you have had a chance to look into this yet? The point where the sound changes seems to be different depending on the instrument used but it’s there to be heard in the discover version and it would be great to know if it’s there in core. Thanks.

      @@Jim47ww Apologies for taking so long to reply! Been a crazy couple of weeks, just checked right now and I can confirm that with the Tuba from C1 and up the samples in the higher velocity layers are a bit quieter and muffled in comparison to the ones below when played at the same velocity. But in the lower velocity layers (with the mod wheel down and the added dynamic layers that come with pro and core) you don't have this problem. Hope this helps.!

      @@Joe-blogcomposer I started on Discover and upgraded to core on special after bedding in around 5 orchestrations and the quality of sounds + nuance/depth in perfomance was SO much improved! You will not regret an upgrade at the right time $$ but the beauty is you can be sketching and building tracks with discover in the meantime and the transition is a simple dropdown menu change ;)

    A lot of people discredit Pro for its microphone selections but I believe that for a real professional it’s one of the best shots by Spitfire, really really useful, you can get a chamber-y feel or a big lush orchestral sound with it (even without using internal/external reverbs!!) thanks for this video, the harp on pro sounded so good!

    • @Joe-blogcomposer
      @Joe-blogcomposer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You do have so many choices with the mics, and if you spend time with them you really can create a fine tuned mix, and as you said without any external reverb, equally if your not careful you can create something quite muddy, but I've never seen a product quite like this. Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video :)

    Thanks a lot! One question: Did I get that right from your comparison sheet that you won't get solos with core? I thought e.g. "violin 1" would be the solo version...? Thanks!

    • @Joe-blogcomposer
      @Joe-blogcomposer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In core you get solo instruments for all sections EXCEPT strings, “Violin 1” simply refers to the first group of violinists (typically 10 violins, and another 10 violins in the second group Violin 2) - in the pro version the solo patch for violins is ‘Violin 1 Leader’ e.t.c. I hope this answers your question, thanks for watching!

    Very helpful video. Re the spills - that's interesting. I assumed - incorrectly - that they would be really quiet compared with the direct pickup mics. I suppose if anyone was really bothered they could mix in the spills out of phase with the direct pickups - though trying to tweak the sound further could be a lot more trouble than it's worth. Also the spills would probably have to be phase shifted - in an attempt to compensate for time delays.
    Re using reverb, it probably makes more sense to use convolution reverb on a section mix or overall mix. Logic can do that - based on very specific data from different environment - and probably several other DAWs also - so not necessarily any need to use the reverb from the Spitfire patches.
    Right now there's a deal offer on these libraries, but it probably won't last much longer. There may be different offers in the future.
    The performance and storage issues of the Pro version may be deal breakers for some - plus also the cost.

    are you able to purchase the SSD hard drive so avoid running out of RAM, does it make a big difference. I have the 3.8 GHz 8-core intel core i7 processor. Spitfire recommend buying the SSD , what are your thoughts?

    • @Joe-blogcomposer
      @Joe-blogcomposer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All the SSD does is help you not run out of space/storage, RAM, no matter what will be the same usage SSD or no SSD, initial load times may vary. I would recommend buying an internal SSD like a Samsung EVO and putting it in an external USB C case (cheaper then buying the one from them, or buying a dedicated external SSD) amzn.to/3OMbRl5,

      Thank you! I mostly use BBC and other spitfire products with a couple of Orchestral tools thrown in (LA Sessions, creative sound packs and Met 1). I would love to get into the Berlin series but it’s quite pricy and BBC does what I need and more. Personally I found VSL and EW to be quite dated but I do have plans to do some EW comparison videos in the future.

    So, is there no difference between core and pro? I want to hear your opinion about solo sounds of pro instruments. Well, I can know core is much better than discover, but dont know what should I do for better sounds.

    • @Joe-blogcomposer
      @Joe-blogcomposer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With pro you get a couple more instruments, you get all the solo strings instruments, and you get all the mic positions (going from 1 mic position to like 20 which to me can be a game changer depending on what your composing).
      If you want an all in one Orchestral package and don’t really have any other orchestral sample libraries, and feel you’ll use those mic positions for added flexibility, Pro is defiantly worth it.
      In terms of quality of sound they are both the same, just Pro has a couple of extra feature and instruments mentioned above. (Think of Pro as an expansion pack for Core)

    It’s easy to get obsessed with libraries. The professional ones need a powerful computer lots of ram and storage so it gets expensive. If you just have say a MacBook Air with 8gb ram logic instruments and spitfires original brass, woodwind and epic strings can give you some decent results without spending a fortune.
