I love raymond for his love for movies and his vast knowledge about them, but in the most respectful way, i personally think he needs to work on ways to balance the flow of conversation. Maybe just adding a third person to reign it in a little? idk. I am biased towards the original podcast and it's dynamic where it hits all the key points that jared structured, ryan speaking from the heart, austin with his deep insight, and raymond with his encyclopedia knowledge. But ya just from a fan who will continue to listen regardless !
Staged sea battles were a thing in Rome called the naumachia. Sharks were certainly out of the question, but animals were involved, they "brought in horses and bulls and some other domesticated animals that had been taught to behave in the liquid element just as on land." Also I read descriptions of little islands being used where the "sailors" would actually fight. The boats were really flat bottomed and down scaled more like props. Professional Gladiators were expensive and their fights were not that lethal overall. I would imagine it more like a mixture of MMA and WWE. About four of five gladiators could expect to survive a loss depending on the time you look at. They had referees and assistant referees. There is descriptions of female gladiators fighting "spear in hand with bared breasts". Cestus fighters were basically boxers and also fought in the arena. There is also a lot of music and musical intermissions going on. I imagine a lot more spectacle than slaughter.
Doesn't the breakfast club have a more personal message? Like no matter who you are you have an anchor in the film you can relate to and have sympathy for. Whereas trains planes .... Not so much. Kinda weak I think. Steve martin best has to be Dirty Rotten Scoundrels a better comedy all around. 😅
@@austinhaydenThanks Austin. Yeah that, and I guess it's a lense for Self-Actualization in the face of what people want you to be. All round a film with more to say. Same you feel you can't cover the films you want to. Feels like there are enough guys put there covering the main stream. You guys should go the way of the beat of the worse and do your own thing. Just like TBC 🤣
This movie cut Palestinian actress May Calamawy out at the last minute for obvious politically based reasons, not only was this movie not "worth the wait" but has been called to be boycotted from countless people/groups and you should be ashamed for giving this movie any kind of acknowledgment besides condemnation and scorn. Free Palestine 🇵🇸
I totally get your ire. But just a couple things to say: first of all, if you have been here for any length of time, or if you'd like to stick around (we'd love to have ya!), you'll know that we share the same sentiment; we have spoken at length about Palestinian liberation and I have even written multiple articles/essays in popular publications on the subject - so, perhaps we're not as at odds as your comment indicates. Second, we just don't know what happed to May. Pedro, Paul, and Joseph Quinn have all been vocal supporters of Palestine and/or a ceasefire to varying degrees, so we can't simply assume that her political stance or ethnic background was the reason she was cut out. I have been in multiple movies where my roles have been cut (sometimes even entirely so that I'm not even on screen). I have been involved in many discussions when we've had to cut people, even full storylines from projects for the final edit. And many many many friends of mine over the years have had similar experiences. Sometimes it's personal. Sometimes it's political. And sometimes, more often than not, it's about story and/or distributor pressure and/or run time etc etc. So, if we find out that she was cut because of her ethnicity and/or her political position, I will absolutely join the ranks in calling that out. Until then, I think it's wise if we are careful with the arrows we fire, as it were. But, I truly do appreciate your concerns. And just so I'm clear - FREE PALESTINE Here are some pieces I've written about the subject: jacobin.com/2023/12/australia-elites-censorship-israel-palestine-solidarity-sydney-theatre-company sublationmedia.com/do-the-oppressed-have-obligations-to-you-and-me/
Talk about Andor. I just can't get enough of it.
we're gonna make a video on it that will drop when the new season comes out.

Russell Crowe should’ve won the Oscar for Master and Commander. His finest performance.
Actually, Master and Commander should’ve won all the Oscars.

Hey, what about Anora? did you guys do that one already? Mallory seemed to have really liked it.
It's coming up in December!! :)
“Glicked” was so not a thing that it wasn’t worth bringing up in this discussion

Yeah I think you’re right. Everyone has been a teenager… not everyone has been a yuppie ad man or traveling salesman wife guy haha
