    The fact that people still laugh at this humor amazes me. We can all still come together to watch the best Comedian of his time to entertain us 104 years in the future. Charlie Chaplin was beyond his time. Thanks for building the future comedians Charlie Chaplin. May your Astral being rest for eternity.

      Was he the best though? This short film feels pretty amateurish to me.. I remember Chaplins films being better than this. Maybe im remembering wrong and Chaplin was just as bad in his other films as here. After all its been ages since i last saw a Chaplie film. Or he improved a lot as his career progressed.

    • @Thedamped
      @Thedamped 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@puppeli I think all of the movies from this era seem amateurish because the field itself was so new. There weren't any seasoned veterans or great works from the past to reference. That's part of what I find interesting about this era. They were still figuring everything out.
      That being said, I do personally prefer Buster Keaton over Charlie Chaplin from this time period. For me, the comedy holds up better and is more unique. But I've never been a fan of slapstick. It certainly seems be a matter of personal preference though. Clearly many people found it funny at the time and still do.

      Its dumb humor. Making an object fall on someone's head over and over is comedy? Its made for kids it seems like, and even then they wouldn't continue watching. Its just not funny unless i guess TV JUST got started and this is one of the first comedy skits to come out, then maybe its funny. But to everyone now... its old, boring, just not entertaining.

    They even used the limitations of their technology as a strength. Shot in 18 frames per second, then projected at 24 frames per second to enhance the comedy of their motions. What absolute masters of their craft.

    • @andrewholliday251

      They never did that. 24fps came in with sound. And for the next 60-70 years silent films were shown at the wrong speed, and usually in BW (cheap copies of copies) rather than in their original color tints and tones. Only around 10-15% of silent movies were originally screened in BW. And never at 24fps.

      Чарли Чаплин с его характерными неприличными жестами был превознесён еврейской кликой как самый гениальный комик 20-ого столетия ещё тогда, когда это столетие только начиналось. Он сделал миллионы долларов, просто виляя своей задницей и почёсывая интимные места перед камерой, тем самым, подтверждая природную озабоченность еврея своими «анальными и генитальными комплексами». В своей области Зигмунд Фрейд был ещё больший комик чем Чарли Чаплин, однако, мы смеёмся над Чарли Чаплиным и серьёзно изучаем Зигмунда Фрейда.

    The two beautiful kisses with Edna, in the end and the winking after that, is the loveliest scene. I am from India, but let me say many scenes are just copied by film makers over here from Charlie Chaplin's movies.

    I`ve never seen this Chaplin comedy, and even though I really don`t like colorized B/W films, this was entirely enjoyable, and I laughed out loud. An A-1 comedy. I can just imagine how hard audiences must have laughed when this film was first released over 100 years ago. Am so glad that Chaplin`s films weren`t among the ones that deteriorated and were lost from improper nitrate film storage and that we can still enjoy them all these years later. There should be Chaplin film festivals in movie theatres so we can all laugh at them in big crowds.
