I’ve been intrigued with Nissan for years, I’ve owned 3 Tacomas a FJ Cruiser and a 16 JK (never again). I just turned 50, finally have funds to play and really build a nice overland vehicle. I’ve chosen a 17 crew Frontier S (I like a challenge) with low miles that I’ll be converting. I believe Nissan has a great platform with tons of potential. Keep up the great videos, keep us posted with everything you find.
Certainly right about never owning a '16 JK. I just sold mine last weekend and after doing about 2 weeks of solid research on the new Frontiers, I picked up a '22 Frontier and I'm happy with it so far and now I'm looking for accessories for it.
It does seem that nissan is like the red headed step child in the overland/off road community, although there are a few that thankfully do make parts. I was excited to see nismo step up and start making offerings. I know I mentioned in your last video about a dash mount, but still interested in one, maybe they need a group buy to get the ball rolling?
Exactly why I went to a Toyota from my xterra.. I like to modify and customize my vehicle and the aftermarket availability for it was exhausting trying to piece together a build.. good luck with your frontier!! Love the channel and safe travels
Donald, that is awesome to see that Nismo is getting in the game for aftermarket parts for your truck. Hopefully more companies will see the light and get on board as well.
Thanks for the Frontier content. I have a 2011 SV and have landed on a few sources for aftermarket Frontier (Xterra, Pathfinder, Titan) parts. All Dogs Offroad has been mentioned and I have their complete lift kit that has been a game changer. Also looking at the new wheels and UCA's. Hefty Fabworks has aluminum and steel bumpers (I'm installing the front Alu version today), skid plates, sliders, recovery points etc. Lastly, Z1 Off-road carries full line performance and OEM for all Nissan trucks. They are developing a line of Frontier specific parts, too. Hope some of this helps others.
Maybe next year! Not sure I will manage to hit both Colorado and Flagstaff, but who knows...we'll see what happens with the channel. :-) I'd definitely love to come take a look at those new wheels you guys are working on!
@@softroadingthewest we will for sure have some on hand for the show next year. should be receiving our prototypes in a week or so. we are just as excited!

Long Range America used to make a 38 gallon tank for the Frontier, sadly it's no longer on their site. As far as parts, there is some support;Alldogs Offroad, Nisstec, Rugged Rocks, HeftyFab, and Schrockworks are good places to start. ARB, Wambumpers, and Coastal Offroad also offer some Frontier specific products.

I wish there was more stuff for Xterra I know it will be a slow process and its going to take me a long time but I will eventually get all the stuff I want for it.. my next stet , after suspension upgrade that I just did would prob will be to get skid plates Nismo is a great stuff but its so expansive.. well for me.. it is expensive.. Great video as always ! I know its not Xterra but its close and always happy to see another Nissan video !
I know a few folks who, like you haven't felt the love and that sucks! I own a 2000 ¾ ton Suburban 4X4 and can't find hardly anything for it. I am mostly wanting to built out the rear interior into a camper setup but I'd also like some bumpers (front & rear with winch capability and tire carriers, etc) and some skid plates…but it's so hard to find anything for it. I'm glad you were able to find stuff for your rig though! "Ol' Scooter" down in East Texas, Brother!
It has been xtremely frustrating to say the least. I've had my xterra for 2 years now. The deficiency of aftermarket support for the xterra and frontier is disheartening. I actually considered selling the pro4x and buying a toyota just because of the plethora of aftermarket components available. Make happen, Nismo.
jusr wait until i get parts out, ill have bumpers, racks, sliders, overland accessories, exhausts, maybe headers, trailers, interior set ups, and just custom overland equipment.
I run a 2018 Nissan Titan. It's well used and has seen both coasts and just about everywhere in the US. I love the truck, but aftermarket support is abysmal. Hammerhead makes a front bumper, Leitner supports the platform with their rack, Thule makes some roof bars and Decked makes a version that fits the Titan (I own all four and they are great), but everything else has been DIY. There have been many times I wished I bought a different platform and it's solely because of aftermarket issue. I realize it's in the lower quartile of trucks sold, and manufacturers need to support the leaders in the segment, but it's almost comical how little Nissan is supported or viewed as a viable platform. I think that if you and others continue to produce content, that may help, but ultimately there are not enough trucks sold (Frontier or Titan) to make is viable. Keep up the good work.
ShrockWorks out of Houston has bumper, skid plates, rear bumper etc. for the Frontier/Xterra. I got a good bumper from ARB and the ShrockWorks skid plate fitted perfectly.
Finally!! Nissan realized that there are a lot of us Frontier and Xterra owners that want to have aftermarket support for our vehicles and they're going to fill that niche!
I love my 4dr rubicon. I also love my crosstrek lol i also really liked my frontier and im adding a 24pro-4x to my garage soon. I think its the best looking midsize out right now
My first offroad 4x4 experience was in an early 80's Datsun 4x4 truck and it was freaking awesome! That said, yeah nowadays or as always if you want be niche that's how it goes for aftermarket stuff.
I've Been going back and forth from my xterra should I sell it or not. trying to find aftermarket stuff for it. Now nistec is looking looking real good right now
Nissan needs to get more into promoting after market accessories because it is killing them.. My son works at the Smyrna Tennessee plant and he says they are stepping up their game. I hope so. I have owned a Nissan pickup, and path finder, and an exterra and they were all great off road trucks all but no aftermarket. Nissan, I have owned 3 Toyota trucks (Gen 1 Tacoma, FJ60, and a gen 3 Tacoma which I have now) and they have been a dream to upgrade. All my Nissan trucks have been nightmares. Not as vehicles, on the contrary they have been really good but nightmares to upgrade. Glad to see some movement on your part.
Good evening from Godley Texas, I'm enjoying your tips on using the Contractor Cap, along with your adventures. Have you given any thought to installing a Fantastic Fan between the roof braces using 1 by 2 to support and affix the fan to inside the cap? Stay safe on your journeys.
Something like that is an option I'm keeping in mind, but I'm hesitant to cut a hole in the roof if it's not absolutely necessary (I believe this will void the warranty on my cap). So far, camping with it during the hot months this past summer, I didn't have a need for additional ventilation beyond the windows...by the time I would go to bed, it had always cooled down enough. And so far with cold weather camping at elevation over the past month, I wouldn't want to create a draft. Perhaps if I have to travel someplace where it doesn't cool down at night, this might become a higher priority. But I generally avoid going to places like that in summer anyway and aim for high elevations or coastal areas for summer trips.
Good evening Donald, We just picked up a 2016 Frontier to replace our 2012 Subaru Forester (Jack4str). We love to get dash mount that fits perfect for the frontier.
FYI, that deal ended up not working out. I do have a video about how I adapted the RAM Mount system to my Frontier: th-cam.com/video/Uk2VS6p2aZU/w-d-xo.html That has worked very well, though some years later, the mounting rail I used has failed (though that same piece of rail was also previously installed in my Forester and it did last a good long while for a very low price). I would recommend looking at their sturdier rail options, but overall I have been very pleased with the RAM system. Not cheap but has proven worth the investment in the long run.
@@softroadingthewest Thank you for the information. We really like the Ram system as well. We had them in our Forester an d now moving them into this build.
Ironman 4x4 makes a true suspension lift w/ upper control arms - no hockey pucks or body lifts there. I've run 2 of their kits on 2 different vehicles, currently run the 3.5 Foam Cell Pro on my 2015 Tundra and it's a great system.
Good video, I had no idea Nissan was making some parts. I’m really considering downsizing my truck. I don’t want a Toyota, everyone has one. I really like the Ranger and Frontier but I want at least a 6’ bed and a bigger gas tank. Doesn’t look like either one of them is going to make that happen.
I purchased one of the original Nissan Hardbody 4X4 pickups back in 1986. At that time, Nissan was at the cutting edge with the only available V6 offered in a small pickup package. There were a lot of suspension/bumper aftermarket options offered. I now have an 04 1st gen Toyota Tundra which is a great truck but also not much available in the way of bolt on, aftermarket parts.
I'm shopping and I an going Nissan. Maybe it's just because I'm not a crowd follower OR maybe it's because I like them better. I'm hooked on 1st Gen Titans. Even with rear diff worries ect...... Not like it can't be fixed.
Donald..Get those remote reservoir shocks Nismo makes if you want a bit more of a comfortable ride on rougher terrain. They will make a big difference on eating up the rougher terrain when offroad.
Oh cool, that is good to know! I really haven't known what to even begin looking at for improving the ride. NISMO won't have those out until sometime next year, but I probably wouldn't have moved on anything before then anyway. Thanks Harley!
I enjoy my Nissan Frontier but yes the aftermarket support is abysmal. That bedrack from Nismo looks nice, I might get it whenever it's released. Depending on price of course.
I love Toyota and have always wanted a tacoma, but after sitting and driving in one, I realize my impending truck purchase will be something else (driving ergos, position and power plant aren't great). The new Frontier looks intriguing, also considering a Ranger. Glad the automakers are waking up and realizing they should give the Taco some decent competition
Already planing on going next year I see.... I feel your pain on aftermarket. Try and find economically priced items for a old Cherokee. Don't know if there is any hope for me though. George.
Haha, I'm sure for your rig, the best aftermarket support is whatever you can fab yourself. :-) Yes, while there were aspects of Expo that I struggled with, overall I had a positive experience and I'd definitely like to go back and give it another shot now that I've had a chance to reflect upon the experience and think about what I'd do differently next time. And hey, any excuse to get down into the southwest. The trip home was 3/4 of the fun. :-)
@@travelinman482 Expo West is in Flagstaff, Arizona. The same organization also holds smaller but similar events in Colorado and somewhere in the east.
I've been a Frontier owner since '08 (an '08 and '19). One of my biggest frustrations is finding *any*thing aftermarket for them. You'd think that with very little/no change from '05-'21 (body/frame wise), there'd be a ton of stuff. I absolutely LOVE my '19. I contacted Expedition Essentials myself, mentioned your video and my desire for support for a Frontier and they simply responded "we don't manufacture a mount for the Nissan Frontier at this time". That means they probably never will. There are TONS of cool aftermarket products out there, just not for our trucks. But I don't care. I'll take my Frontier over a Tacoma or Wrangler every single day.
Well, they haven't yet had the opportunity to see the community response here. I want to give this and the previous video a week or two to collect responses, then I will be back in touch with them with my results and see where we're at. It makes total sense that any company would hesitate to invest in R&D for a product they don't know will sell in adequate numbers. I'm hoping I can convince them. :-)
@@softroadingthewest I hope so. I would've thought that 15 years of no change in styling would've been enough to convince them that there have got to be enough people that have these Frontiers to recoup our investment.
Thank you for this video. I find limited Nissan content..have a 2019 pathfinder that I built a bed and have camped. I know from watching your forester (I had 2004) that I can just build my own stuff…I know pathfinder is not frontier or xrerra it it is what I have for daily driver
I’d like that frontier dash attachment. Really disappointed in any aftermarket parts. Was beginning to look at the possibility of taking Wrangler parts and modding to fit my 2021 frontier
I find it bizarre that Nismo started making upgrade parts for Xterra so long after Nissan discontinued it. Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad. In June of this year I replaced my 06 X with a 14... I just ordered a Nismo front bumper at a price that beets the competition. Something I never got around to doing on my 06.
There's isn't much first gen frontiers either. can't believe it really hasn't been adopted in the off-road adventure communities. There isn't very many out here on the road in general. I feel darn special for owning one 😅
All great companies providing aftermarket support. Alas, they had no presence at Expo. I suppose perhaps it isn't worth the investment in renting a space, developing a booth, and spending a few days in Arizona, since Frontier owners probably find them anyway. :-)
I'm not sure. Since it's designed to attach to the utili-track rails, seems like that might interfere with mounting a topper? He did say it could be attached to trucks that don't have utili-track, so perhaps that approach may work with a topper.
I've had my Frontier PRO-4X since 2011 and until recently, trying to find aftermarket 4X4 parts was essentially impossible. Last year, I found Alldogs Offroad Coop and upgraded my suspension then I found Shrockworks for offroad bumpers and rock sliders (on order). Then just a few months ago I learned about NISMO. One of the things I never liked about my Frontier is the headlights, especially the highbeams that seem pretty ineffective. Last year I installed LEDs and that made a nice difference in the lowbeams and while the light was brighter and cleaner, the highbeams still seemed useless. About the same time that I learned about NISMO, I also learned about the Morimoto XB Hybrid LED Headlights (LF475) or the Frontier. They're NOT cheap, but they're supposed to keep the highbeams focused on the road where I prefer them, instead of everywhere else.
I run a 2005 Nissan X Trail...never imported into the States, only brought into Canada for 2 years, its a surprisingly competent 4x4 SUV. A bit under powered but other than that perfect for my needs. All I miss is stability control, traction control but its over 300,000 km and still going strong. I'll keep this one til it simply won't drive any longer. Second Nissan love story: a mine north of me has an employee parking lot full of Rams, 250s, 350s and the like. What do they drive underground tho? Frontiers and a few Titans. Because they hold up.
I miss my Xterra. I wish I could divine whether another one is in the works. Seems odd to sit out the hottest segment in the market effectively since end of 2015. Perhaps an electric version is in the works. Not sure if that excites or not.
"Fits 2005-2021 Frontier" So the current Frontier should be virtually the same until 2036? I know the Frontier/Xterra guys tend to be happy with their trucks. They just don't seem to have the popularity of Jeeps/Yotas for whatever reason.
Haha, based on history, I wouldn't expect the new Frontier to change anytime soon. This seems like a dream-come-true for aftermarket companies. Design one part, sell it to people across a 15-year swath of model years.
There's definitely a lot more love for Nissan 4x4s in other parts of the world. That bumper would look nice on your truck for sure ;) I really wish they would have gone a little further with their updated frontier, future-proofing it for a while with a rear coil setup or something. The previous generation Pathfinder, or two gens ago, runs independent rear suspension with coils. The Armada after 2017 I think also is IRS with coils. They have a track record of unique engineering. They surely could have done a solid axle with coils in the rear. However, they also have a track record of cutting corners. Going to ask a tough question here... Do you think your channel would become more popular if you were to run a more popular vehicle?
I jave a '92 Toyota, and ironically, I run into the same problem. Only Tacomas get the love. Edit to add: That's ok, because I'm not tempted by the plethora of overpriced accessories.
Yup sounds about right that there would be only 1 booth for frontiers there lol I’ve had my frontier now for over 5 years and haven’t had a lot of luck with the major overlanding brands providing aftermarket parts for the frontier but glad to see Nismo is making things happen! And yes! I’ve been looking for a good mounting system for iPhones and other gear in the front! In terms of aftermarket, I just got the GFC camper installed on my frontier which has been amazing, also mountain hatch has a flat tailgate option for the frontier which has been handy. (video of the GFC on my frontier is on my channel if anyone is interested and I’ll be making more videos to come on this particular setup 🤙🏽
This is awesome. I've been looking for a lot of the products that this company supplies for my 2021 Frontier on and off for the past few months. But despite my googling they never once came up in a search (a solid failure in their web presence). I'm going to be checking them out (especially that bumper) over the weekend and likely place an order to try them out before jumping into larger purchases there. They absolutely need to get the gen2 frontier parts listed if not. Where do I sign the petition? And do I need to bring my own pitch fork (joking)? The after market scene for frontiers is so low that I tend not to get excited about after market company reviews, but this? This rocked.
Just wanted to say thanks for the videos I have enjoyed every one I started cause of the Forester nothing wrong with the Nissan it's also a nice Rig I'm a Subaru fan with a 2002 Outback and a 2003 BAJA when you said they only had one stall for Nissan I wonder how many they had for Subaru my guess would be none lol since you owned a Subaru in the past you know first hand how hard it is to get parts for these vehicles well thank you for the videos stay safe and Overland safely!!!!
How many expos has that guy said the same thing ? No third gen bumper, and they said suspension will be coming out for 3rd gen. Now they tell you 2nd gen will fit. Nissan is dropping the ball !!!!

I have a 2010 Xterra, I am interested in the products
That dash mounting hardware would be cool.
Definitely interested in the dash power mount fur my 2016 frontier
Hell yeah !!!🔥🔥🔥 they sell this stuff overseas. I’m still ready to make my own “Nismo” bumper for a WD22😏
I’m really tempted to get a Frontier Pro-4X. Hopefully it does get more aftermarket in the future.
We need bumpers for 22 why is this not available?
I would definitely get one of the accessory mounts for my dad’s frontier.
I would love an accessory mount for my frontier!!
Me too. Even if it's super basic.
Me, too. Even contacted them directly. They just replied that they don't manufacture one for Nissan.
Sure hope they also add for the new Pathfinder. Desperate for a roof rack and lift kit!
There's isn't much first gen frontiers either. can't believe it really hasn't been adopted in the off-road adventure communities. There isn't very many out here on the road in general. I feel darn special for owning one 😅
I would love to have that dash mount system
Frontier owner. Yes i want that dash mount
Thank you!
nothing for Armadas??
Love my 2018 pro4X Frontier. Try All Dogs Off-road, Shrockworks 4x4 and Iron Man Off-road.
All great companies providing aftermarket support. Alas, they had no presence at Expo. I suppose perhaps it isn't worth the investment in renting a space, developing a booth, and spending a few days in Arizona, since Frontier owners probably find them anyway. :-)
Will the rack fit a soft topper inside?
What phone mount are you using?
It's RAM mount gear. I have a video about it:
th-cam.com/video/Uk2VS6p2aZU/w-d-xo.html
I miss my Xterra. I wish I could divine whether another one is in the works. Seems odd to sit out the hottest segment in the market effectively since end of 2015. Perhaps an electric version is in the works. Not sure if that excites or not.
Expedition Essentials....hear us and make one!
Why they always forget the suspension springs coil dust cover never come with it when is new upgrade, why why🤔
Expedition mount for frontier please!!
I like the bumper
I have a 2023 Titan. Damn little aftermarket items
@6:34 is that your old foz? 😂
Haha, I wondered if anyone would spot that. :-)
"Fits 2005-2021 Frontier"
So the current Frontier should be virtually the same until 2036?
That Nismo bumper looks very nice!
Some Titan love from Nissan / Nismo would be nice
Yay!
Nismo part pricing should be available through your local nissan Parts department or aftermarket company like z1 offroad
Dash mount, 2011 Nissan Xterra
That bumper is $1585 as of this writing. 22% increase in 8 weeks.
Nissan straight up teased is with these parts the only thing I can find is the bumper such a let down
Just wanted to say thanks for the videos I have enjoyed every one I started cause of the Forester nothing wrong with the Nissan it's also a nice Rig I'm a Subaru fan with a 2002 Outback and a 2003 BAJA when you said they only had one stall for Nissan I wonder how many they had for Subaru my guess would be none lol since you owned a Subaru in the past you know first hand how hard it is to get parts for these vehicles well thank you for the videos stay safe and Overland safely!!!!
I want a DASK MOUNT for my NISSAN F
Nissan Titan XD need stuff!
How many expos has that guy said the same thing ? No third gen bumper, and they said suspension will be coming out for 3rd gen. Now they tell you 2nd gen will fit.
Nissan is dropping the ball !!!!
i am working on a lot of products. it is taking me time because i need a place but i will soon.
Now if they get more Titan stuff
im working on it!!
Bummer, no Titan stuff
The new model Frontier looks very much like the current Toyota Tundra...
C'mon Nissan - it's time to close the gap!!
they wont, im trying to build parts for ALL nissans myself.
I’m glad you don’t really like stepping up to a booth to talk to people, that would be a pretty boring video for me 😉.
More after marketing for frontiers!
Panavise makes an in dash mount for the Nissan Frontier...I have one for my Taco that I like...had to support it with a 67 Design arm to get rid of a slight wobble with rough roads but now it is rock solid...I will put a link in a separate comment cuz I figure it will get blocked...
