@Stephen Lindsay Certainly not 2000. 2001 (almost definitely) and (possibly) 2002. I remember because I was working LUL at Waterloo station when this was screened on Channel 4 - and I was there from 2001-2002. I watched it and was spooked despite Mark Kermode giving away the surprise ending - what was he thinking of and why no one in the production team pointed this out to him! They screened Ring 2 the following week...
This is actually a pretty good intro, except for of course the spoiler *explains scene* "when you see it, you're really gonna get scared!!"
