Ultrawings is an amazing VR game. I've played a lot of different flight games but nothing compares to flying in VR. If I want to impress someone with how amazing VR is, this is my new go to game. Fantastic!

Oh damn, I’m in trouble. I just found out you don’t need a pilots license to fly a real ultralight airplane. I’ve been playing this for two days, and I want a real one. You can get one for around $2,000 and lessons are like $500 total. Lol

Great review Bryan. I literally cannot say enough good things about how much I like this game.
If you have even the slightest interest in flying in VR then just buy it now, you won’t regret it.
Initially the game begins quite slowly with you flying an ultralight, which is a good way to introduce you to this new feeling and sensation of flight which you may not have experienced before in VR.
After time, as I was beginning to tire of the slow pace of the ultralight, I then had to unlock the experimental glider...
Now, and I feel bad for thinking it in hindsight, but I was originally thinking this glider can’t be all that... It’s just a glider after all...
let’s blap through that part and hopefully unlock the sports plane as quickly as possible... But holy crap! That glider is amazing fun! It handles and feels so different to fly compared with the first plane and I was probably flying around with the biggest grin on my face ever.
I really hope that everyone loves this game as much as I do as I’m having a real blast playing through all its varied missions and unlocking all that I can, also the potential for future DLC add ons is pretty vast if you consider the amount of activities we are missing from its already constantly compared brother from another mother - pilot wings.

JCrules no motion sickness for me but I’m like Bryan in that I turn off every setting that is on by default to prevent these things.
As others have mentioned your initial takeoff is where you will most likely feel pretty strange if you’re not used to movement in VR but after a couple of goes it’s easy to get used to.
As for what mode did I play... I just played through the various missions that were available at each hanger. I’ve enjoyed all of them but the shooting ones are definitely the most fun in my opinion and the method of shooting varies slightly from each plane. Eg. The ultralight has a pistol you can hold to shoot the balloons where as the glider fires from the glider itself and you just press a button on the stick as you fly.
Matt The GameCat iv just got this like 20 mins ago and have only done the take off bit then went straight into free flight loving the freedom of just being up there with the breeze and sky on my own, and with the use of the moves instead of the ds4 or hotas is cool, this is my chill out game as of now
Natalie Boundy I couldn’t agree more... this is such a nice and relaxing game... for me driving and flying experiences really seem to fit into VR perfectly. They take me to another place where I get so immersed in the gameplay that I often forget the stresses of daily life, it’s nice to just be able to escape and enjoy these experiences for what they are... Instantly putting aside the worries of daily life... and this is why I love VR so much. It really can take you to another world, as long as you commit yourself to what’s happening around you and you enjoy every moment it brings.
Looks allot like pilot wings on the n64 loved that game😆

Great review as always. I am having a blast in this game. This is such an addictive game. You get a real sense of flying. Hopefully more flying games are in the future because this is where vr really shines.

Great review. Love the thought of using move controllers to controller the plane. Must try this out some day
First VR game that I have to take breaks while playing. Banking the plane while changing altitude makes my stomach drop. I don't think I'd cut it as a stunt pilot.
Good review. I was waiting for the official word from the Parole crew before submitting that order. This confirmed I'm buying it right now. I still play Pilotwings on 3D so this is a no-brainer. I think I'm going to place a fan a few feet in front of me for the realism. :D
A fan is essential - not just for this game, but for all PSVR games. I remember the breeze going by my face when I first took the elevator down to the Batcave in Arkham VR. So immersive. :D
I bought it after I heard Bryan's reaction to the first take off in the live stream. The feeling of flight is so convincing that for a few seconds I had that "riding in an elevator" feeling when the plane was descending once. It's a totally different experience than a space flight simulator like Eve Valkyrie.
I'd love to play a WWI flight simulator in VR where you could get into dogfights over Europe in a biplane. The boss level could have you facing off against the Red Baron.

I didn't experience motion sickness, but over the last year I've built up a high resistance to VR motion sickness, so your experience may vary. :)
Out of all the vr games I played, this one is my favorite hands down. The controls, illusion of reality, and feel make this a must buy for anyone who loves vr. If any dlc is planned, I will buy it in a heart beat.
I think I saw this game on another channel. I believe there is an option to tint the side windows to help with motion sickness. They also said it looked great, so I'm excited to get this.. Yeah
There are three "comfort settings" which do exactly what you're describing. Each one makes you feel more/less surrounded by the aircraft's interior. It's pretty well done and hopefully helps anyone who struggles with motion sickness. :D

That JET GLIDER is just soooooooSICK! It gave my my best VR experience...or at least it's in the top 3. I hope they make more updates! The occasional audio clipping tho...

I really like this but its the first game since owning VR from launch that hits my stomach giving bad motion sickness even with full comfort settings on. Made me ill for a couple of hours first play. Way I have overcome this is when I turn in a direction NOT to use the rudder at the same time. I played Eagle Flight for many hours and never had an issue with it. This really is a great game but I still feel a bit dizzy after half hour or so playing.
Sad i played 5 hour non stop doing barrel rolls flip and dashing toward the floor while spinning and im tottaly fine
for my first take off I felt my stomach drop a little, and looking straight down out of the ultralight cockpit made me a little queasy the first few times, but you just have to get accustomed to it.
they say a month of playing 30 minutes a day and you are totally accustomed to it - for me it took about 20 minutes of flight (looking around and performing aerobatics, not just flying perfectly level) and I was fine - doing barrel rolls and flying inverted in the rocket glider
This is the 3rd best game in the PSVR library. Get it and you will not be disappointed!!

Welshboyuk76 I think it is a great game. If you enjoy flying simulators, it is great. There are lots to do. You can buy new airports and do some missions to earn dollars or you can just go for free flight. If you have money to spare and enjoy flying games, then it is great. Otherwise just wait for it to go on sale. There is also a racing mode but it isnt against real players. Its just AI. If you are still unsure, do some more reserarch like on reddit and stuff

Just like the title, im ultra picky with games. I dont just buy every new game that comes out and even if i think its gonna be good, ill hold off a little longer. Ever since i 1st heard about this, i was kind of looking fwd to it. Im not 100% sure why, but i do like the sense of floating, flying in vr. The realism of it. Its just hoping that it would be made well though. I have held off so far, but now after ur opinion, im VERY confident ill enjoy. Ive been playing eve valk on psvr over last few nights, after owning it a whole year and not really having time on most my games.
But im loving that too. I love the battles and flying in and around debris, etc in space, testing your skills. Lol.
Such fun in vr. I want to get into eagle flight again too, that was one i played prob around a year ago too, but my 1st game i played, i loved the feeling. So even if there is no games coming out now or people forget their old hidden gems, im loving what i missed out on. 😀👌

Thank you for your reviews. A lot of these games I hadn't even considered. I was excited to hear this was like Pilot Wings. That is definitely one of the best SNES games ever created.
Before PSVR I was really set in my ways when it came to games. I liked scary games, adventures, and RPGs mostly. But with PSVR I want to try everything and I've discovered games like No Heroes Allowed in genres (RTS) I previously never would have even touched. :D
Well, we're certainly glad you're shelling out the cash to check these games out, and giving honest reviews. I'm definitely gonna extend my PSVR library after pay day thanks to you.

This game is now on sale at the moment over here. I watched the review and looked things up, but I still am wondering what this game offers content wise. Anyone that can shed a light on the current (updated) state of this game. I'm curious about what all the job-type/missions are, how many islands or "world" there is to explore. How much content is really there? Is it rince and repeat or does it offer a lot of variation? How does it compare to pilotwings 64? (except for the obvious parts).
I read a lot of good reviews, but I also read comment of how boring and repetitive it can be. And that part "scares" me into not buying it, even if it is on sale.
So anybody want to shed some light on it, what I get if I would buy it now?
Ultrawings is still an awesome (Pilotwings inspired) game. Sometimes you'll just fly through rings. Sometimes you're shooting a gun at targets while you fly. Sometimes you'll be photographing locations while you fly. There aren't any high action moments, just tense moments when you'll be trying to land a plane with no fuel on a runway without crashing or completing a mission before time runs out.
4 different planes and plenty of objectives keep things interesting, and I've spent well over 10 hours with Ultrawings, with plenty more missions to complete. It can be repetitive but I had an absolute blast at the launch price of $24.99. I wouldn't hesitate buying it on sale. :D

PSVR Without Parole here i am finally going to bed. Quick question is it part of the game mechanics for the aircrafts to pitch up excessively when on full throttle/boost? (I havent flown the extra 300 yet just the ultralight and glider) im using the ds4.
No - that only happens to me when I put flap ups. I head some people complaining about the newest patch, let me check it out and get back to you...
PSVR Without Parole as a model airplane/jet pilot i can tell you that flaps do make the plane pitch up but on full throttle the plane should not climb. Thanks for responding to your peeps man. Best reviewer imho.
Does this not get boring after awhile? It seems like with the super plain graphics doing the same thing over and over would get repetitive fast
I went games hub yesterday and I played this and almost fell over
I got this and thought I was destined to be a Top Gun Maverick pilot in real life after playing 30 mins. Then I unlocked the rocket glider and as soon as it dropped down suddenly after climbing I got "the fear". Apart from the odd anxiety attack this game rules.
Around the 5 hour mark I caught myself thinking "I could fly one of these in real life." Haha, nope. :D
Can you use the hotas flight stick?
Looks like it’s great fun. So apart from shooting down balloons and racing through check points what other challenges are available?
Chris White the only other one I can think of right now off the top of my head is the photo challenges where you have to fly over or past a specific landmark and take a photo from a specific angle. I’m sure there are other modes too but my brain is being completely useless right now.
There is shooting with a hand gun. There is also shooting with mounted guns (different planes have different guns). There is photographing landmarks. There is a race mode. There is also a mix of flying through hoops + shooting balloons. There is a landing mode, where it gives you difficult landing locations. There is a lot of variety.

I bought this because of your review, and I love the feeling, but when I'm in the cockpit there are sort of shades on every window I don't directly look at, only when I turn to these windows the graphics open up. This can't be the real thing. I'm kind of confused here. What am I missing?
You have the comfort settings on. When you're in the office between missions, look at the corkboard/bulletin board . There are three comfort settings - move the post-it note to "NONE". Have fun! :D

Not a game for those who suffer from motion sickness. But yeah, definitely an incredible game for everyone else! :D
great review. definitely gonna get this one, but i'm waiting to buy any more new PSVR games at all since there has been a bit of a trend where some games get a physical release some time after they come out on digital.. and you don't really 'own' your games on digital.
I have this, it's def addicting. . But does it have a pro patch? I wish all games did, that's why I got a pro.
Yup, the Pro runs at a slightly higher resolution and at 90FPS instead of 60.
Would you choose Ultrawings or Dirt Rally if you had to choose one. I'm interested in both but would want a wheel for Dirt and right now, its just too expensive to buy for just one game. I really do want a racing game for PSVR though. With that said, I saw your review and other videos for Ultrawings and when you said that it really makes you feel like you're flying, I was on board to get it. However, I got Archangel instead because it was on sale during the holidays so I choose to get that first. I get a little nauseous with Archangel so I play it sporadically. Hopefully Ultrawings and Dirt would give me less of that feeling.
I had a blast with Dirt Rally and played it for a week nonstop but the stress of it finally got to me. It plays like a simulation where you're constantly feathering the gas and have to take every corner with the utmost precision. When you win you feel amazing but more often I was screaming so many obscenities that my neighbors were concerned about me. Ultrawings is just more arcade like, which for me translates to more fun.
But If Archangel made you nauseous I'd be concerned. The sense of speed/flight in both of these games is much more intense than anything Archangel throws at you. Have you tried the Driveclub VR demo? That's usually a pretty good barometer for measuring what you can handle in VR.
PSVR Without Parole. Thank you for the super quick reply! Funny thing is, I have indeed tried the Driveclub VR demo. That was during PSVR's launch and don't remember ever feeling motion sick with it. I just remember thinking that everything farther than 15ft in front of me was ultra pixelated. The games that gave me the feeling of nausea were Battlezone, Archangel (a little), Farpoint (very little even with the comfort settings off), and the Here They Lie demo (a lot).
The CoD Jackal Assault demo initially made me very sick the first couple of times that I played it but I quickly adapted to it and felt no motion sickness at all. I definitely want to give this game a try because I want to be immersed in a world where it actually feels like you're flying a plane. Your review is really pushing me to give it a go. :)
I could also give the motion sickness med Dramamine a try. Lots of people mention it when talking about motion sickness in VR.
Here They Lie (for whatever reason) made a lot of people a little motion sick. It sounds like you're doing okay - just take your time and don't rush it. Hopefully in a few months there won't be any games that make you sick at all.
A fan might work too. The movement of air helps with motion sickness and also adds to the immersion. :D
PSVR Without Parole Thanks! Hopefully, future games will make me less sick because I love VR and would like it if I didn't have to take extended breaks from it to recover. And I've been thinking about doing the fan thing. When I finally do get Ultrawings, I'll definitely give that a try.
Soneone help please. I want to enjoy this game, but for some reason I can't play it. My vision keeps drifting left, and just sort of bounces around like crazy at times, and if I try to use the move controllers my hands end up in the opposite direction I'm facing. I'm having to re-center the screen like every 10 seconds. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you fix it?
Since I haven't had this issue I can only assume it's your setup somehow. The first thing I always recommend is to simply restart your PS4. Putting it into Rest Mode totally screws up PSVR for some reason and can cause major tracking/wobbling issues. So ALWAYS rest your PS4 before playing a VR game. Next, check your camera placement. If possible, we suggest placing the camera roughly 6ft off the floor, and aim it down into your play area. Are there mirrors or windows around that are reflecting your Move controllers or headset lights? Let me know if any of this works for you! :D

A quick update, I stopped using the motion controllers and it somehow fixed it self, how sad, oh well I will just stick with the regular ps4 controller, still just as fun!

I find it baffling that this is the closest thing there is to an actual flight sim on PSVR.
I would have thought certain genres would have saturated the VR market by now, and flight sims would be one such genre, being so perfectly suited to VR...
But there’s isn’t. This is pretty much it.
This game is, in some respects decent. You have to turn on the engine, prime the fuel, engage the throttle - it offers a level of realism I was not expecting.
However, the graphics are SO simplistic, it’s honestly really not that compelling.
I also thought it would offer more of a sense of flying than it does. After about 10 mins of flying about I was like meh...
Unfortunately I find a lot of the VR games like this, consistently underwhelming. There’s few games that really offer that great VR experience that you crave and that you know is possible....
Pls tell me if its worth it. I didn't watch the video cause i am in school. I am thinking of buying it

It is one of my favorite PSVR games so far. It is a must buy in my book.
DT if you’re the kind of gamer that wants to get the gold medal on all missions, you’ll be playing this game for a long time. But if you just want to blast through you’re probably looking at 15-20 hours. Unlocking each new plane is awesome and keeps the game interesting.

For sure! Indie games with simpler graphics are on every platform and will continue to be until the end of time. And you gotta hand it to the small team over at BitPlanet games for not only giving us the content and gameplay we were looking for in a flight game with plenty of control options, but also that the resolution and framerate are great. All for just $20.

PSVR Without Parole you have no idea about my new found appreciation i have for everyone who does reviews brother. My review on shooty fruity took me WAY more hours than i would ever want to admit to. Kudos to you for keeping up with all these games and always knocking it out of the park regardless what segment you're producing.
I play simple games and i love them BUT i prefer better graphics sometimes. This time for this game especially, i don't like the very simple graphics. With VR i want to feel it as realistic it can be. With these graphics can't achieved that a lot.
OMG watching this presentacion i wonder how the fuck i played microsoft flight simulator X, 8-9 years ago on computer. But now this kind of grafic make me sick.
