In Joshua Tree, 2024. Thankagiving Day. We had a sing-along. Beautiful day! Victoria played 🎸 guitar. We sang christoperson and john denver and church songs. She is full of life and love ❣️
I remember seeing this episode of Carson and just loving this song and falling in love with her and her whole persona. I mean, here she is in a nice new dress plus Granny Clampett boots. I always used to keep a tape in my VHS recorder in case something great might come up. The night this aired, I had no tape in the machine, and by the time I found one, I only caught about the last 30 seconds of this. I am so happy to now have the whole performance. It is much more vibrant than the CD version.
I met her at a show in 2009? Maybe? And id borrowed the 'Loose' disc from the public library, and recoded it, immediately, cos it was so good. I played and sang 'Crazy Mary' and 'You Are Loved' with a couple different bands over the years, so i was smitten. At the show i bought a copy of Loose and got her to autograph it. When she was onstage she asked for requests, i yelled out, 'You Are Loved' She seemed surprised about that, but this was the deep south, and people loved it. I was so touched, in my soul, just getting to shake her hand and thank her writing all this great music, and sharing it, that i was choking up. Shes an angel...
I honestly totally forgot about this amazing lady for a couple decades and something jogged my memory while listening to Nanci Griffith, who, if you aren't familiar with, go listen to as well if you love Victoria!!!
WHY LOOK AT THE MOON This song is the first single from her second album, Swing the Statue! (since we missed the introduction i think this info is relevant) A little bizarre i must say. But excellent footage, this is new to me too. Thanks a lot as always friend.
steelygray Thanks very much for that information! The clip was recorded on Beta videotape, so that is one reason the image [and sound] is much better. Glad you enjoyed the performance, too :)
I love you Victoria sweet ole friend from church, your home, our mutually broken hearts at times, and brokenness, always saved by our sweet Lord Jesus. I know that I angry and disappointed you win value in the 90's in the canyon. I have before, and do this wee hour of the morning , pray earnestly and sincerely that you are well and that you will one day forgive me as I treasure you always as my sister in our Lord God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit above all else. I have so happily been reminiscing as I'm watching your videos of long ago and recent too! people here should know that as I was a school teacher Vangelis public school system in the 90s Victoria Williams would come and perform for my classes Elementary students adored her work so touched by her trouble to come visit and sing to us while playing all I've heard different instruments!! I am in touch with a handful of the students who are in their thirties now and they still remember you fondly when I mention your visits. hope I get a reply to this zedge if you care to do so Victoria. My very dearest and deepest love for you, and for my memories of you, Michele Lane missmjlane@gmail.com
Imagine if this brilliant divine woman went on American Idol or The Voice and to see the shock on the talentless rich idiot judges. Props to Johnny Carson.
No disrespect, but I love this version better than the original version on her CD. On the other hand, it's usually the first version of a song you hear that you fall in love with. This Carson version is the one I heard first. P.S.: Doesn't the guitarist look like Robert Quine?
This is probably the date, but might need more investigation on your part: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Tonight_Show_Starring_Johnny_Carson_episodes_(1990)

Favorite artist since she arrived on the scene.

This is great. I was lucky enough to see her live once - just amazing.
The most unique human to grace the planet.

I never thought I would see this again. Thanks so much for posting this!
My pleasure! A clip from my earliest days of recording late night music performances. Thanks for taking the time to post a note of appreciation!
wish there had been more of an interview :( But love the performance and love VW.
Thankful for you sharing this.
You're welcome! Very happy you enjoyed it, and took the time to write a note of appreciation!
I still miss Johnny Carson after all these years -- no other Tonight Show host who preceded or followed him was as good as he was.

Does anyone know how her health is today?
Is this a cover of an older American folk song or an original composition of hers set in that genre?
Im sure u found out - she is an original as is her song heard here. Try searching the cover done by : the waterboys why look at that moon
@01:50 this guitar solo is out of control
Love Victoria Williams, but would like to have 10 seconds in a room alone w/ the person that tried to make a Nashville clone out of her on this video.

What year did this originally air on Carson? This is the first time that I have seen this performance.
