- TO foot or not to foot! Thats often a question for most potters. Well here is how to trim a functional foot that serves as a pedestal, a grip zone for glazing and a safe zone for glazing. Have fun and enjoy

You are a terrific teacher. You speak clearly in a methodical direction. I've watched many of your videos and look forward to watching more.
I’ve seen many trim demos - most of whom trim somewhat similarly to you. No one has ever explained the how and the why like you’ve done before however. Very helpful. Thank you.
WOW! Thanks so much. That means a lot to me! Im glad it works for you! Enjoy the rest!
This is the best trimming tutorial! I’m not so good to make (yet😂) such a big bowl, but your explanation show me how to make a small bowl with a perfect foot. So many potters just show how “to do a foot” while throwing, but a piece with a trimmed foot is so much elegant! Thank you for the video
Oh goodness! Im glad you enjoyed it! Subscribers have been asking for more trimming! Im ON IT!
you explained this very well! I agree, this is the best trimming tutorial on youtube
Thanks. You make me blush!
This is extremely helpful! Thank you so much - I now understand what is behind how to make the foot! Yay!
Great! Never make a foot for "foots sake!"
Thanks. Really helped. Been having such a hard time learning trimming. 🙂
What great directions. I have been struggling with trimming.
There is so much to work on with this skill! Then theres glazing.. that can mess it all up too! LOL Good luck!
Spectacular instruction!!
OOH I LOVE THE WORD SPECTACULAR!
Thank you for this video. I've now watched a few of your tutorials and they are so useful, and motivating :-)
Sometimes we need some motivation. Its one of the few skills that almost guarantees some failures! We need the motivation to keep on making pots!
Wonderful !!
What are we to learn at minute 15:35??? 🤔
Do you wax the entire foot or just the ring? Wondering about how much foot to leave (in general) if you plan to glaze the bottom.
So youir foot needs to be deep enough to glaze the inside. I ofter do it though. I only make a foot id there is enough clay for a GOOD foot! Then I only wax the foot, unless I know im using a stiff glaze then I only glaze bottom of foot and 1/16" inch up
How do you sign your pottery? What tool?
I really use whatever is near me. LOL. I was trained by potters from then 80's They werent the clay stamper type of potters.. I always sign my pots. I will use something a bit thicker like a pencil or pen or these skinny wood sticks that come to point
