      Hi Michael! The fusing liquid is a mixture of copper acetate and Klyr Fire.

    Very nice video. I'm not a practitioner, but just wanted to understand the process because I have a Chinese art piece that uses that process. Thanks.

    Do you prefer the Swanstrom Round Disc Cutter Set in a Metric sizes or in the Standard (American Inches) sizes?

    • @sandramcewen
      @sandramcewen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've got the one in inches because that was what was available, but I'd honestly prefer metric for this. Seriously, having to remember that 3/8" is .375 and then translating that visually to a ruler is a but much... :)

    • @mrgreene3290
      @mrgreene3290 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sandramcewen Thanks for the quick reply. Your response follows some of the same reviews that I saw online elsewhere from others, that metric is easier to work with. Planning to make the disc cutter my Xmas present request. :-) Again, thanks for response.

    A nice video, thanks, but a small correction - at 8:53 you say "copper has a lower melting point than silver", but that's not true. In fact copper has a much higher melting point of 1085°C, while fine silver melts at only 962°C (sterling silver is even lower at 890°C). But when the copper atoms combine with the silver they form an allow that has an even lower melting point than either, and that's what allows the silver to fuse at the join before the rest of the piece melts. (The "eutectic mixture" of 28% copper and 72% silver has the lowest possible melting point of 779°C)

    • @sandramcewen
      @sandramcewen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I know all about the eutectic bonding now, but some of the older videos have some mistaken info. (Especially when it comes to Science!) :)

    Hi Sandra, How do you deal with the seams that are sometimes visible (and sometimes deep) where the two pieces are fused together?

      ...just subscribed to your Vimeo!

    • @sandramcewen
      @sandramcewen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Evangelo!
      It's hard to get rid of the seams when fusing round wire. I've found that if you go up a gauge to something a little thicker, you can usually grind it enough to make the seam disappear. Good luck!
