What's crazy, is according to the run's author, that wasn't even the correct score. On that same play he was actually supposed to get 1562!!! ...yeah I'm flipping the board at that point too. 😂

I'm waiting for the computer to go "F*ck you, that's not a word! Use it in a sentence!" Personally, I'd accept Kwyjibo. If you know the definition of Kwyjibo - congrats, we're old.
With all the outlandish words this game actually accepts as real, regardless of whether or not anyone born after 1920 has ever used them in a sentence, ever, I'm surprised we didn't go for "Kwyjibo" at some point.
hi, is this an unaltered version of the game? If so, which version? AFAIK, the in-game wordlist in it (modified twl98) does not contain any 15 letter words, even if more modern scrabble wordlists do
the videos on this channel are not user-submitted. as you can see, the TAS itself is credited to Chamale, but the beginning of the video says "encoded by despoa". this means that, in order to verify that the TAS was real, the judge named despoa played back the user-submitted input file through their copy of the game, which would cause a desync between the inputs & gameplay if anything was altered by Chamale. as this is far from the only game that would benefit from being altered, every video on this channel is recorded this way. if a TAS desyncs or otherwise performs incorrectly, it does not pass verification and thus is not uploaded. hope this helps!
This is the US (English-only) version of Scrabble. I know there's an international version, I don't know whether it has 15-letter words in its dictionary, but this version does.
@@alexlamoureux1049 To add some context to 5cr4b's comment, the ps1 Scrabble speedrun community knows which dictionary this game uses. It tells us the dictionary edition on the game manual, and it's relatively easy to extract the dictionary from the game, which we've done and it does appear to basically match the dictionary the game claims to use. However, that dictionary does not have any 15 letter words in it. If you go to this game's built-in dictionary, and try searching for oxyphenbutazone, it will say there's no definition. Before now, we assumed that the dictionary (basically) matched the list of valid playable words, but we now know that is not the case. Clearly we need to do more work to figure out what the actual word list is.
Something tells me the score calculation on the word “Oxyphenbutazone” seems a bit off in the PSX game. Correct me if I’m wrong but did anyone notice the 3rd triple word bonus doesn’t seem to stack properly? Still good to know what potential scrabble has regardless!
This makes me want to try in French with "Yellowknifiennes" ( (46+2)x3x3x3 +50 = 1346 pts) But sadly, I do think it's a ODS9 word (2024) and not a ODS2 or 3 like the game would be likely to use
(1:10) Here I'm thinking, "What kind of word is VROUW?!", but then I looked it up, and it is indeed a real word. It means a Dutch woman. So, there's my new vocabulary word of the day, I guess! (4:02) Man, what an oxyphenbutazone this TAS is. :P (4:23) Wow, it didn't even triple correctly the third time there. 486 x 3 = 1458, not 810. I'm guessing the number was so much higher than any value the game was expecting to be possible, that it didn't know how to properly do the math, or something.
@wagnerramosmidichannelabso514 Uhh? I'm not sure I get your logic there. In official Scrabble, if a word covers multiple Double/Triple Word Score tiles, those bonuses are multiplied together. Two Double Word Scores at once do indeed quadruple the word's value, two Triple Word Scores do multiply it by 9, and in this case, three Triple Word Scores should multiply it by 27 (3x3x3). However, due to a bug in the code, it apparently erroneously only multplies it by 15 instead.
Just for you, here is every word formed, and definitions from the Collins Scrabble website: RAVENED: seized or sought (plunder, prey, etc) VROUW: Afrikaner woman OOPHYTES: gametophytes in mosses, liverworts, and ferns JULEP: sweet alcoholic drink COENAMOR: enamour jointly KAURIES: large New Zealand conifers VROUWS: Afrikaner women UTA: side-blotched lizard UN: spelling of 'one' intended to reflect a dialectal or informal pronunciation TA: thank you AM: form of the present tense of be KATA: form of exercise ECRU: greyish-yellow colour FINAGLE: get or achieve by craftiness or trickery EF: letter F PI: sixteenth letter in the Greek alphabet ON: indicating position above, attachment, closeness, etc OR: before [weirdly, it doesn't list the most obvious conjunction usage] AGLITTER: sparkling, glittering HEN: female domestic fowl NO: expresses denial, disagreement, or refusal COENAMORED: enamoured jointly NE: nor OXYPHENBUTAZONE: a phenylbutazone derivative having anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects BE: exist or live ZOOPHYTES: any animals resembling a plant, such as sea anemones ED: editor RADII: (length of) straight lines from the centre to the circumference of a circle AD: advertisement TI: (in tonic sol-fa) seventh degree of any major scale AI: shaggy-coated slow-moving animal of South America FIREWORM: cranberry worm SCAG: tear in a garment or piece of cloth EFS: letter Fs PIC: photograph or illustration NA: form of NO AG: agriculture OBEDIENT: obeying or willing to obey
When the player draws tiles, the game shows all of the tiles facedown and lets the player choose which ones to take. I made this video by writing down which tile corresponded to what letter, so I could get exactly what I needed. The AI draws tiles at random, and I could manipulate that RNG function by changing the frame at which I finished drawing my last letter. I couldn't choose exactly what the AI drew, but I was able to keep it away from my setup by letting it draw high-scoring words that it would have to play somewhere else.
If my opponent pulled out a 914 point move in real life I would just concede on the spot and never play Scrabble again.
I would do like a Playstation and *BWAAAAAAAHHH* *chime* *chime* *chime* *panflute*.
What's crazy, is according to the run's author, that wasn't even the correct score. On that same play he was actually supposed to get 1562!!!
...yeah I'm flipping the board at that point too. 😂
I once had a 212 point move played against me.
Make sure to flip the table on your way out.
I would be like “Is that a real word? And if so, what astrophysical meaning does it have?”
This is a real oxyphenbutazone moment
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Whatever chemical reaction that means.

I appreciate the dramatic music shift as soon as Maven realizes what just happened.
...and the accentuated long pause.
That's not Grandmaster thinking.
That's Grandmaster in shock.
That's Grandmaster questioning life choices to be attending this desecration instead of at a lovely summer's picnic with the grandchildren.
I'm glad the TAS author gives definitions to these words in one of the links in the description, because, like, seriously.
Who said watching TH-cam videos can't be educational?
We're TASing the dictionary now thats crazy
If you got impressed with this I'd recommend checking a Mojippitan TAS
This is possibly the strangest TAS that I've ever seen.
Well done.
sometimes i try to use big words i don't know the meaning of to sound more oxyphenbutazone
Also, brilliant intro thumbnail. We truly are witness to some elite English here.
3:46 Maven Grandmaster: Coenamored. 342 points. Ha, sucker!
4:07 Tas: Oxyphenbutazone. Zoophytes. Ed. 1163 points.
4:52 Maven Grandmaster: is thinking (about life choices)
Oxyphenbutazone, the forbidden one!
I'm waiting for the computer to go "F*ck you, that's not a word! Use it in a sentence!"
Personally, I'd accept Kwyjibo.
If you know the definition of Kwyjibo - congrats, we're old.
That’s not a TAS. That’s Nigel Richards.
That's Nigel on a bad day
You got the whole squad laughing 😐
3:59 - where the magic happens
Am I crazy for thinking the BGM of this game is kind of a bop?
With all the outlandish words this game actually accepts as real, regardless of whether or not anyone born after 1920 has ever used them in a sentence, ever, I'm surprised we didn't go for "Kwyjibo" at some point.
The amount of time the CPU spends thinking and calculating scores is hilarious when put against how blindingly quick the TAS moves.
breaking news: TAS becomes certified Scrabble super-grandmaster
Probably could have optimized this a bit further by playing TNETENNBA for an additional bonus.
Good morning, that's a lovely TNETENNBA.
the triple triple immediately after oxyphenbutazone made me laugh mote than oxyphenbutazone did
Chamale made a kwyjibo out of Maven
Gotta be careful when closing those dictionaries near your nuts
These worda are so out there, I halfway expected to see "Tralfaz."
awesome fireworm
Roses are red,
Violets I own,

A 15-letter mega word I made:
Oxyphenbutazone

54 + 108 = 162
162 × 3 = 486
162 + (108 × 3 | Triple word) = 486
162 × 5 = 810
486 + (108 × 3 | Triple word) = 810
Triple + Triple = Not sextuple, but quintuple.
Double + Double = Not quadruple, but triple.

Okay, I do use the word 'finagle' quite a bit.
who tf boots up their PlayStation to play scrabble
Real questions.
Scrabble players
Awesome TAS. Here before the million views roll in.
Crazy how the TAS was robbed 648 points on that oxyphenbutazone play and you still got an obscene score
Haha, he got the letters in perfect order for BEDIENT, german for served 😂
Why was the word ever in the games dictionary
0:58
was that the one android notification sound
Not even close, the sounds are heard in-game, but not Pixie Dust.
4:24 the third triple was too big for the AI to process properly so you just got the same 324pt bonus as you got from the second instead
Wow.
Maven: How many points is WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING!?
Me: i want play scrabble with my friend
My friend with honoris in language: was easy won you
Wow do you have an honoris in language
Maven should stick to Java build pipelines.
Are any of these words real?
Yep, all of them. Scrabble is full of obscure and archaic words
What even ARE words?!¿!

Bruh. Even old english is more common than these words.
nobody plays with word bonuses and all that stuff IRL lol
Well yes, Scrabble is a game, not real life.
You are aware Scrabble has a major competition scene, right?
GrandMaster: im cooked
