    One thing: The Raven Queen doesn't hate all the undead, she hates the intelligent ones, the ones not related to her. A mere skeleton for example is just like a "robot" in her eyes.

    I had read that the raven queen did exist in the forgotten realms though she had been relegated to the back. While she wasn't a goddess in name, she was in power from what I understand. She, along with several other powers are constantly vying for control of the Shadowfell. Love your guys stuff tho!

    Ran a few friends who have been playing since 3rd edition through the shadow fell. They were enjoying slaying waves of ghouls, wraiths and specters and a sea of zombies. It was only when the bow fighter was healed by the cleric' that a hungry sorrowsworn was spanned and attacked. Split from the party the rogue searched for their friends in the misty borders. Feeling rather separated a lonely pursued them.through to ravenloft. The party grew to fear what was behind some of the basic elements they took for granted. Such as sleep or hunger. They hitched a ride with the carnival and made their way into ravenloft to try and find a way of escape, all the while losing pieces of their equiptment selves and sanity. These are the only characters I have k own who retired in game to go live out the rest of their lives with family

    So happy you guys felt the same way about the shadowfell. It makes no sense the way wotc just tossed every evil/spooky thing in the plane. Then, when accounting for the demiplanes... There's just so much diversity in what kind of beings reside "in" the shadowfell that it stops having any theming at all.
    The mirror analogy is nice and simple, I dig it. The feywild is over-exaggerated, while the shadowfell is under-exaggerated and eroded away. I can work with that. Make it so the feywild has EXTRA features while the shadowfell is missing them. Like maybe sprites/pixies in the feywild have these elaborate designs, identifying animal/insectoid/plant-like parts of their humanoid bodies, magic swirling around them, the whole nine yards. Then those of the shadowfell could be just little balls of light, either looking like Navi, from Legend of Zelda, or a Will o' Wisp.
    Rather than shambling zombies and such all over the place, you have spirits that are more like echos. They're no longer aware of their surroundings. Instead, they're "stuck on loop" for whatever they were feeling in life or more specifically in their last moments.
    Remember, the feywild has you going 200% until you crash and burn. So for the shadowfell, it should take those who are already worn down and give them new life in some way imo. You could have the shadowsworn expanded to be a whole host of individuals who stayed in the shadowfell so long that the plane's energies crashed against their soul and form until only the most intense parts of their being remained, forever warped into that shape. Someone who was constantly starving and eventually passes out to it awakens later and suddenly has just enough energy to search for food again. They shamble corner to corner as "The Hungry," looking for anything remotely edible to ingest but that is ALL they can do now forever more until they're put down. Though they become frenzied at people wasting food or daring to trivialize this creature's suffering at the hands of hunger with something like the Goodberry spell. If you think this only happens for negative traits, hold up. Perhaps a cleric who holds out faith, even in what they believe to be their last moments, is turned into "The Devout;" A creature only capable of repeating the simplest of ceremonies from their old life, they wander around sacred sites, graveyards, etc. They become frenzied by people committing blasphemy, speaking ill of their fortune, and running away from their duties. None of these would be undead in type but instead monstrosities.
    I could go on and on. I've got a lot of ideas bottled up about this setting.

    I found some home brew rules to implement mechanics from the game darkest dungeon called stress, how it works as you play you gain stress, when it maxes out you have to role a d-100, 75% to gain a temporary negative trait like selfishness or abusive, the last 25% is positive traits like courageous and virtuous, this is great for shadowfell

  • @jamesgordon364
    @jamesgordon364 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Shar used her power to weave the negative energy plane to the plane of shadow. The raven queen dwells there but does not rule out right. I could see her dwelling far into the mists. But maybe aslong as the undead stay there on their plane, she cool.

    The raven queen hates intelligent undead like liches. Normal undead are whatever mindless husks while intelligent undead are usually creatures that are avoiding death in some way and therefore avoiding their visit to the raven queen.

    Maybe the raven queen only considers undead to be unnatural in the primaterial plane and has no problem with them in the shadowfell because they belong there, maybe the undead in the shadowfell were never alive.

    3.5 Shadar-Kai are shadow fey who made a deal with "dark powers" to bring permanent twilight to the PMP. The plan went awry and left the Shadar-Kai bound to the Plane of Shadow. To remain on the PMP they have a gal-ralan that pins their soul to their body. It's a cold-forged iron band with long needles that pierces the forearm.
    I had a Shadar-Kai assassin, was the best downtime character I have ever played.

    I'm about to bring the Shadow Enclave into my game (DR1372). One of my players wishes to run a Shadar kai race build that is a Warlock (Patron is Raven Queen). I'm curious as to the relationship between SHAR & Raven Queen. What recommendations would you recommend for a PC abilities, traits...etc for a 5E game. I know they were in earlier editions but I find multiple & different details on wiki media. Interested to hear your thoughts. The party is NOT evil and expected to interact with the Shadovar from the City of Shadow eventually. My player says his character's ties relate to "hating sentient undead" and destroying those that don't follow the Raven Queens ideology.

    • @Thedungeoncast
      @Thedungeoncast  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Shar as a general rule doesn't get along with other deities. The Raven Queen though does not exist in Forgotten Realms lore so this is really falling into "up to the DM" territory. All in all, I would imagine these two would clash over the want of rule and influence over the Shadowfell and of the Shadar Kai. Shar basically owns the Darkness and would probably see the shadowfell as hers by right.
      I homebrewed a Shadar Kai race a couple years back. From memory it was something like this: +2 Dex, +1 Wis; Resistance to Necrotic, Proficiency in Stealth, One use of Misty Step per short Rest and ADV. on Death Saves.
