Even Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has stated, again just a 10 days ago, that Betty gave the best of all vocal performances as well as recordings of "Memory" of all these great ladies who played Grizabella or just sang the song. No vocalist can touch Betty Lynn.
This woman is an idiot. She can't handle the truth she will report you. Well you can stick your report where the sun don't shine. She can't even speak properly with the correct diction and she expects us to accept her critique? She needs to go bury her head in the sand somewhere. Now she will cry to TH-cam saying I am harrassing her but the fact is, she's the one harrassing these performers with her ridiculous uneducated critiques. Word of advice! Read the music idiot, before you critique! Even Andrew Lloyd Weber has stated repeatedly that song is owned by Betty Buckley's performance. So who would you believe an unsuccesful so called voice teacher or the actual composer of the music?
Betty Buckley still did it best!! She displayed such emotion and sadness as the aging cat remembering her youth and "days in the sun". Wow I can relate!
For me Betty Buckley has the best version ever of this song. The power, emotions and superb interpretation all in one rendition by this incomparable talent.
Nobody has ever even come close to Betty Buckley's version of memories. She comes up off that floor with all the emotion, pure clean sound, no screech, and all in one breath. All time best; hands down.
Elaine Paige, who originated the role of Grizabella in the West End production of Cats, was the first to ever perform Memory publicly on the stage. For me, despite how good some of the others are, Elaine gives the best performance of the song. Gives me chills every time I hear her sing it, since the first time in 1981.
You need to watch The whole Betty Buckley performance. She was chosen to be in the Original Broadway cast for a reason. The effortlessness in her voice, and the subtle choices she makes are phenomenal
This is exactly what i wanted to say. She is by far the best in my opinion. when you listen to the clips side by side it seems like its kinda lacking but if you see her whole video it just blows you away like no other
I’d say the shiny Tony Award on Ms. Buckley’s mantel helps to offset any criticism of her performance. 😏 She played Grizabella as a “glamour cat” who retained a sense of her worth even after she’d fallen on tough times. She remembers her halcyon days and is not warped by self pity, which is the defining factor in many of the other performances.
I agree, I don't understand this lady? it depends on the sound system! echo location! buckley has by far the most powerful voice! it carry's very easy! remember this is youtube! you don''t the best volume! and it seem like she was cut short! my choice is buckley by far!
I'm shocked at your reaction to Betty Buckley. I felt a lot of these singers tried too hard to sound emotional. Betty simply gave me goosebumps without trying to be frilly.
I saw Nicole Scherzinger perform this at the London Palladium, I had tears streaming down my face, outstanding as was her performance of Phantom of the Opera.
I am a guy! Haha. Thanks for the nice words! I also binge watch your channel for these reactions!! Love Elaine, to me she's the ultimate version personally. Most (if not all) of these ppl have a bway background so when it comes to talent all of them are crazy talented. xx
I guess im asking randomly but does anyone know of a way to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost the login password. I appreciate any help you can give me.
Nicole is a stunning vocalist. You should really check out some of her covers (Don't Cry for me Argentina, Phantom of the Opera, And I am telling you, etc.)
I think it's a difficult one because Memory is one of those songs where you KNOW how you want it to sound but it's very rare that singers sing it the way you want it to sound.
Betty Buckey's rendition was so exceptional and incomparable! 👏👏👏 But i also love Elaine Page's performance. It was iconic!!! Leona Lewis and Mamie Parris were so good and emotions ran high too.
Betty Buckley’s voice is absolute perfection, everyone has their own unique take on the number but no one can do it like Buckley and Elaine Paige in my opinion
Betty Buckley was far and away the best. Of course, I've seen her do it in the past so I know the quality of her voice. This should be done without effort yet with strength and determination and quietly when needed. Most of these singers are gasping for air trying to sing loud. Betty projects without any of those problems. She is in some ways similar to Lea Solonga in her annunciation. Remember, this is a song about resurrection not sadness. I've seen Cats done numerous times and the enjoyment of the play is directly related to the sound system. There is a lot of some times gentle soft sounds and a story told throughout in a darkened theater. The moment you can't hear or understand the telling of the story all is lost. A bad sound system is ruinous to the play. Betty Buckley would never have that problem. I would like to see Lea do the performance in costume as well. See Betty do the whole song for yourself: th-cam.com/video/5mlllRdIfqw/w-d-xo.html
Again Nicole showing how talented she really is. I don't know why she seems to struggle with her live performances of her pop songs when she can sing this up there with the legends. Maybe it's the dancing and being out of breath. She's just so good and I feel like most people don't realize just how talented she is.
Sara Barrera Dancing well & singing well is one thing but being able to do both at the same time. Beyoncé’s practised singing on a treadmill ever since she was 11 to get to the skill of where is today
yeah i don't feel really anything by that. elaine's gives me major chills. betty's very technically good but i dont feel that weight and pain in the song.
@@bluecosmo. Why this permanent need for pain? It's not the only "emotion" out there. Personally, Betty Buckley hits the tone just right for me, grounded, dignified, slightly nostalgic. What's with all the melodramatic yelling and sobbing on lyrics like "if you touch me, you'll understand what happiness is"?
Wow im impressed on the take on Betty Buckley, when she was very well known for really putting Memory up there in the Top, not to mention, ALW used her to promote the song more over Elaine Paige. Betty is still my favorite. The most interesting thing about her version of Memory is that she has the fastest tempo for the climax compared to others which is HARD! everyone else's was slowed down to project a lot more emotion to the song.
While I think Elaine Page is incredible, I think Betty Buckley gave the definitive version. I was actually surprised at your reaction to this, as I was starting to tear up as she sang, and I'd just listened to like twenty other people sing the same passage.
It's a matter of style preference on some of these, because the vocal precision was just that good on a few, but BB would be very hard to beat on clarity and tone. It hits different than the others. Nicole also is exceptional, and shocking when I first heard her sing it.
Ms. Nicole Scherzinger got the perfect emotions, the longing, the pain, knowing the back story of Grizabella, she really pulled it off without any doubt. Her voice is ethereal, powerful, smooth and a masterpiece. Special mention to Ms. Elaine Paige.
Elaine Paige’s performance is from on stage of Cat’s. She’s actively performing and evoking the emotion that’s intended for this scene. Better Buckley’s clip is from the 1983 Tony Awards. I think there she’s showing the power of her voice rather than portraying any emotion that’s supposed to be felt by the audience. All in all, Betty’s is the best.
@@danielblair9535 okay, but that’s an extremely difficult song for anyone to sing. Also, don’t talk smack on Idina unless you can sing better than her. In short, you cannot, so don’t posture.

Betty Buckley’s rendition was technically perfect. Idk how any vocal coach could critique her version more than any of the other clips in this video. Nonsense.
For me, Barbra Streisand did the ultimate POP version of this song. It's flawless and in your video, it was hardly shown or discussed. The way she sings TOUCH ME is so ringing and open. No one else come close. There were lots of great versions of this standard. It's actually a very difficult song to belt. All the stage belters did a great job with the song. They were all superb . As I was listening to Betty Buckley's version I was thinking The Honest Vocal Coach would say this was the best and then she didn't think it was as great. I liked the last one the best I think.
love this video! I do think Betty Buckley from an acting point of view knocks it out of the park in a very subtle, almost tired, worn down way...which I think is what the character needs...not pushed acting wise...but this could be that maybe that clip was from a film not stage?
Betty Buckley did this from a CROUCHED position and in ONE breath. I watched her sing this in person and it still gives me chills.
Exactly! Same here! Who belts out like that in that position!? Saw her live and no one compares, ever! ❤ Go Betty!

yep, Betty Buckley's performance was the best for me!! I recall, many years ago, watching the Tony award show and seeing her performance! Just blew me away!! not to take away from the other performers, especially Elaine Page! Betty is just a great broadway talent!!
Betty. Elaine. Stephanie. True, Broadway performers who understand how to deliver a song like that. No stunt casting to be found.
Nicole Scherzinger ❤
They were all superb . As I was listening to Betty Buckley's version I was thinking The Honest Vocal Coach would say this was the best and then she didn't think it was as great.
I liked the last one the best I think.
Wow! Queen Nicole Scherzinger 😍
Elaine obviously owns it, but I was surprised at your Buckley comment. I thought it is the only version next to Paige’s.
Leona Lewis ❤️❤️❤️
I love watching your videos!
Leona... Always Leona.
love this video! I do think Betty Buckley from an acting point of view knocks it out of the park in a very subtle, almost tired, worn down way...which I think is what the character needs...not pushed acting wise...but this could be that maybe that clip was from a film not stage?
