Hello. I have this same unit. Is that small el bracket on the head bolt a single point for lifting the unit or would that be too much to lift from. Also there is no external coil and it looks like to me you need to remove the fly wheel fan and shroud and then the metal engine shroud to access an ignition coil or magneto internally....not an easy job if you have a no spark situation...but I do have a spark. Any ideas? Thanks for the video. By the way mines from a 1976 Dodge Tradesman type MH.
I had a Kohler that was 16 horse and it would run 24 hours with a load on 6 gallons of gasoline which is pretty good it sit there and chug away at I think it was either 1200 or 1800 RPMs good generators the old ones are
I have that generator and I had the series before with the rounded metal top they are amazing. I am going to convert mine to run on wood gas.

Did you check the points? And clean them also could have fault before the coil or the coil itself
how much is a Kohler vintage A23 cost today? im looking at a no spark A23, are they easy to work with? thanks for any reply.

not sure about the muffler pointing at the plastic fuel tank. ebay sells used metal tractor tanks, mount somewhere
i mounted a 14 gallon nissan 4x4 truck fuel tank on my PE197 Army Sugnal Corps Generator, about the same size trailer as yours
The 4 wire plug is start stop and a light for remote control installed inside the rv
