I was born here in 1940 and we left for Milwaukee in 1945. I visited The Soo in the early 1980's with my 2 youngest sons and we spent a wonderful vacation that included staying with my aunt, visiting my old homestead - now gone - visiting my late father's grave, and traveling thru SSM Ontario before visas were required. It had changed a lot even then, but the Locks still thrilled me! I was home...

Was just there in June. Both sides of my family are from there or the Mac Bridge. Mom and Dad met at Scotts store in the 60's (next to the future Kmart co.), Dad was raised on Shunk Rd. and Mom on Johnston, down from the Valley Camp. I remember as a kid the Snow White Inn, the fountain of many colors and the Red Owl. Some of the buildings are still there. Many have seen better days and the Bowling Alley burned down. But, it still is home to my sister and I. We are planning to come back this year as well. Got to LOVE The Soo!

I enjoyed seeing all these photos specially the winter scenes.I lived on the other side but loved going over there every now and then as a teenager, and shopping with my friends. Thanks so much for the trip to Memory Lane.

I was just there (home) 2 days ago! Things have changed and some things haven't! But, for us that LOVE the Upper P, this is and will always be home! I'll be going home every year until I can't, because, this is where ALL of my Family is buried!

I know the Red Wings used to hold training camp at the Pullar. Just wondering at 1:22 if that's Gordie Howe, #9, in the photo?

To answer your question, Gordie started wearing 9 in 1947, they started practicing at the Puller in 1948, so ya, thats Gordie alright.

thanks - a little before my time, but I remember standing in line at the Soo Theater, the Kresege store, other parts as well. My grandfather lifted the jacknife bridge.
