- It’s time for another Ask Gamedev Game Engine Showcase! In this edition, we are visiting a game development tool that has been around for quite some time. We are talking about MonoGame, the open-source cross-platform game development framework. In our past videos, we've come across Monogame several times. This time we want to dedicate a full episode to it and see what the devs in the indie scene have created with this awesome tool.

Always nice to see more love for MonoGame.
I just wish it had more up-to-date tutorials so you don't have to dig up old XNA docs. 😅
The first clips you used for the Stardew Valley section is actually a game he is currently making called Haunted Chocolatier
I'm a big fan of the channel, thanks for showing some clips from my MonoGame tutorial!
Thanks for popping by - Awesome content!
Was actually just watching your tutorial
@@jaymhlurbaloyi7813 that's awesome, thank you!
I had no idea that Stardew Valley actually used Monogame! It is amazing how much time the developer clearly put into it.
I agree, i tried to make game using frameworks, but it was much more difficult than making game using game engine, so of course I'm using engine now. NO FRAMEWORKS FOR ME
Awesome video! Man I did not know about MonoGame even though most of the games mentioned here I know about. That is an interesting tool. I too started my game dev journey with XNA but since it was a frame work it was difficult to understand as a beginner. Any way really good video. Keep it up! :)
Thanks so much! Glad we could introduce MonoGame to you.
when you put up a video its always worth watching
Thanks for watching!
It's great to see monogame projects!
I'd never heard of Monogame, I'll have to check it out.
So glad you mentioned Celeste because it's the game that helped me improve my mental health 😌
Dang, son! Awesome collection! Never heard of Monogame! Dont let anybody tell you that you cant!
Agreed!
Lost serie référence ?
I made a 3D game with XNA back in the day as a university project. Now that I'm trying to pick up game dev again I was considering Monogame, but it really doesn't look like anyone is doing 3D games with it (checked your video and their web site too that only shows a few interactive experience type things). I wonder if it's just too much work compared to other frameworks or if you can only do DX9/XBLA looking graphics with it. Guess I'll keep looking...
Hi! I want to get into game development but have no idea where to start. Since you have experience in this area, could you please guide me?
Love2d and lua engines/frameworks please!
Ask Gamedev, can you make a video showcasing indie custom game engines? I'm sure it will inspire alot of people
4:43 damn, those TH-camrs just don't check that Notifications tab on Twitter...
Great video!
I loved chasm, thought it was a great experimental metroidvania. I think, I’m my opinion, it didn’t need to be an procedurally generated dungeon crawler though.
We love Chasm. Can't wait to see what Bit Kid makes next.
@@AskGamedev Thank you guys for the great content!
Yay Bastion! ❤
one more good game with monogame: Carrion
check it out
I haven't finished it but I like what they tried to do with it.
nice video
MonoGame creator's name pronounces José without changing the J to R because it is portuguese, not spanish. Just like in "Joseph".
As far as I am aware XNA can still be access through like the mobile framework in Visual Studio?
Which one is better mono game or libgdx ?
Barotrauma used is too.
Even on 1:34 they say themselves: *One framework for…*
2:59 to 5:06 can someone tell me the name and artist of the background music, please? Thanks.
You can find the composers of each song from the game here th-cam.com/video/9zVWzjCCM54/w-d-xo.html
The DLC's ost was written by Tee Lopes
Make video on game made with love2d
That's inspiring!
You forgot duck game
No 3d Game?
Salt and Sanctuary?
And now I'm wondering... maybe instead of Godot I should learn MonoGame?
After the unity shit show I wanted to start learning Godot but then I was introduced to momogame engine and as crazy at it sounds I think I'll build my own engine based on it even though it's going to take me several years.
Do you want to develop your own game? I’m looking for a friend to join this journey. Honestly, I don’t have coding knowledge but have a lot of motivation to use non coding tools. Please reply if you want to partner. No monkey business 🐵
nice ;D
Not to knock you but TH-cam give me tuts, not this! But I'll drop a like anyway.
he forgot about terraria 😭😭😭
He didn't, because Terraria was made using Microsoft XNA
@@shisuiuchiha1168 Stardew Valley initially did too, but later migrated to Monogame when the game's creator saw that XNA was dying, and Stardew Valley was mentioned; Terraria did the same thing, so it does count.
That's it? No 3D games?

Nah...
I'll stick with Construct and GDevelop.
Poorly documented
Visual Studio 2019 in 2022? Are you kidding?
Ахахахахахха
