There's a difference between street gangs and prison gangs. If you don't go to prison, most tend to outgrow gangs. You honestly have to be mentally capped to eventually think it's anything productive. When you're young, you can't see pass the next day. Once you get into your 20s? It's a sad sight to see someone banging with teenagers.
Once in prison? It gets divided where the street doesn't matter anymore. And then that's a cycle onto itself.
For any of us that grew up in these hoods and either saw passed this early on or lived it and moved on? It's indoctrination. In some ways gangs are worse than cartels and organized crime. You can wrap your head around these people being driven by ego, money, and power. The ability to rise into the upper echelon of society. We romanticize it with Michael Corleaone, Al Capone and Tony Montana. But with street and prison gangs? The blood in blood out rules. The idea of hating and wanting to hurt someone by no other motivation than because they "represent" a different set, color, gang, or anything else? It's the most juvenile and ridiculous way to live a life.
I really don't applaud gang members, not that organized crime should be either. But there's something so low brow to want to hurt someone for no reason than because they're not part of what you are. It's worse when it gets divided by race.
