    • @robertblue3795

      Putting aside the young playful Greek men, there is a stereotype of Greek men that is defined by their charisma and charm. But of course some would say Greek men of all ages have a bit of that young playful side. Unlike Greek women though, men tend to 'mellow' with age. I don't think Greek men are as 'crazy'.

      @robertblue3795 5 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      It's interesting you bring up Italian women. I think it's hard to find more beautiful young women than Italians. Having said that, the mature Italian women exude a beauty that is more 'constructed'. This is a cultural thing. Greek women on the other hand have a certain earthy beauty that can be very deep because it's not so constructed.

    Greeks are adorable people and their country is beautiful ! I have a distant Greek ancestor in my family and I always feel like I’m coming back home in a certain way when I go to visit Greece, even if I don’t speak a word of that beautiful language - except the very basic ones : like hello, thank you, please, it was very good, etc. The video was funny ! Finally another video about us, thanks!! My thoughts:
    1) never use the word Malaka to people you DONT KNOW (or people that are not your closest friends).
    2) Mothers are the Queens in the house
    3)Just because someone is catcalling you, it doesn't mean that the guy is bad. It's more likely he will apologize and ask you for your name and a date
    4) don't talk bad about his family and his MOTHER
    5) don't be mad at yiayias asking you for a grandchild
    6) August of 15th is very important to Orthodox Christians. It's more likely that he wants to spend that day with his family. Respect that.
    7) Note about yiayias: again, be kind to them. Don't talk shit about their black clothing. Their are widows.

    • @StarfireRebirthCM
      @StarfireRebirthCM 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Mothers are not queens in the house. Properly raised kids are their own people and their moms respect their choices.
      And catcalling is definitely not done maliciously, unless it's from uneducated people.

    • @astrid2885

      Lair Of Dionysus Actually, there is equality. Women respect their husbands' opinion and husbands' their wives' opinion. It is 2018... But still women are the queens of the family and that doesn't mean that their opinion is the only ones that matters. It's out of respect for the fact that they are able to carry a life inside them and give birth to children.

    I gagged so much with this video and the similarities between Greeks and Portugueses, especially when he asked "what do you want?" and she did that gesture. We are almost equal! Family structure and habits, parents asking the same kind of questions, grandmother worried about grandchildren, huge families. Great video!
    PS: there was a famous Portuguese writer, Eça de Queirós, who wrote in 1872, for a magazine called "As Farpas" (or The Barbs): "We [Portugal] are in a comparable state, correlative to Greece: the same poverty, the same political indignity, even the lowering of characters, the same public thievery, the same moneylending, the same decadence of spirit, the same grotesque administration of sloppiness and confusion. In foreign books, in magazines, when you want to talk about a Catholic country and that by its progressive decay may be scratched from the map - Greece and Portugal are mentioned at the same time. However we do not have such a glorious history as Greece, the honor of having created a religion, a universal model of literature, and the human museum of the beauty of art."

      @@astrid2885 No,of course not!Its just at some point it was a cultural shock of how unexpectedly rude some people in Italy were,not only to me.A couple of my fellow travelers from other countries told me it was even worse for them when in Greece.
      Hovewer,as I first visited the country,I came across the most lovely,wonderful people who greet you with a genuine smile,are very polite,helpful and sweet.And the attitude made me come again.

    • @astrid2885
      @astrid2885 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      O Pa If someone wants to be rude they'll be whatever country they're coming from. Surely, there is the cultural thing, people in some countries seem serious and in others happy, but I've seen the rude thing in many countries I've been and I've also met people really nice and helpful to all of those countries. It's not that I've traveled too much, it's only been to 5-6 countries, but I've visited many places in those and I'm aware that there are differences inside each country, too.
      Yet, in general, it's highly dependable on a person's character how they treat others. The only thing I can definitely say, is that southern europeans have quite a temper and express their emotions quite often. That means there are rude people who are simply rude and there are people who are rude because you just caught them in a bad personal moment. Those who are not rude/bad usually after a few minutes go back to their normal mode.
      I know that immigrants form societies that are a bit more traditional than people are in their native country, but even like that all the americans I've met with southern european heritage have pretty similar attitude. They' re happy they're nice and show it, they' re getting through some troubles they might explode for a few secs to people unrelated to their problem, but as I've understood it's the cultural need they have to communicate their problems more than northerns do.
      In Italy maybe it's the case that only recently they're starting to be interested in learning foreign languages. They were depending on the fact that people should know italian and I think with communication being a bit difficult many times, people became grumpy towards those who go to their country not knowing the language. Since traveling is a thing the last few years, I guess people understand more and more that anyone can't speak 10 languages to communicate when traveling and I hope things will become easier and people nicer in general over the time as more people know 1-2 foreign languages for everyday communication.
      In Greece there are some people that don't like tourists at all, mostly because some tourists can get pretty much really assholes, they get really drunk, they disrespect everything and they make a mess. As these situations become headlines in news some have developed an unwelcoming attitude to tourists. IF you ask me, I really don't understand what's the point in going somewhere to get wasted and show your complete bad self, but then again, people who run those places aren't nice people either. I wish all places like Hersonisos, Faliraki etc in Greece were completely different from what they are now, as they are a complete disgrace.
      Sorry for the length of it, I just wanted to share my thoughts and experiences as best as I could, because I'm really interested in observing people everywhere I go whether it's another place in my country or another country.

      Chaos Tade yeah that’s true. Fertility rate is 1.3 . It might look that we have big families because we keep in touch with all relatives (unlike Americans for example) , even with distant cousins and when we meet to eat the entire family and relatives with be present. If you take large urban areas birth rate is even worse, as some don’t even have children at all. (At least talking about Greece ) we have a declining population, which is either aging or immigrating. The only thing that keeps the population is the large numbers of immigrants in the past years.

The older generations (50+ years) had strong gender roles indeed but things changed dramatically in the last few years and right now people even at their 30s do not live by those roles. Nope, things didn't change that much , once the couple gets married they are going into the traditional family roles.The neck-head example (very common joke in Greece) is true but what really happens is men choose to let the woman (mother) take the role of the "neck" in the household for many reasons.First of all they want to maintain a part of their freedom and spend sometime the way they used to do(specially the first years of the marriage) like keep hanging out with friends , doing their hobbies and staff like that , second they want to avoid "grinia" which in a more free translation means unnecessary fights, many times for no reason started from women and third, women like to run the household in a more traditional way even if it's getting more difficult for them nowdays if they need to share their time between their job and their house.
      It's trouth though that most young couples are not having as many children as they used to do, the most importand reason for that is the recent financial crisis.Another reason is that couples are getting married and try to have children in older ages than they used to do and having a children as you getting older is more difficult and sometimes you simply don't have the energy requiered to raise another one.
      .

    Very good video girls and mostly spot on. As a Greek myself the only thing I would correct is the bit about the hospitality. When a Greek person brings their other half home to meet the family it all depends if the family likes and accepts that person. If they do bingo, you hit the jackpot, it's all the amazing food, parties, fun, you will definitely feel they will embrace you.If they don't like/approve of that person for any reason, they can get really nasty and it will be obvious unfortunately.

    I'm greek and some of these stereotypes are not so true! At least not for all of us.

    I love the greek culture. I want to go back on holiday in a few years. If my daughter would come home with a greek guy i think i would say go for it. But husband wouldnt let him live. He doesnt want his little girl to grow up or even settle. Let alone have a greek partner. But family is important. The family is for free with the partner. And yes greeks are passionate. One tip dont expect to much from it. It goes how it goes. Enjoy the culture. I love the old ruins they have there. I want to visit them in the future and discover what is the history from greece.

    I’ve been lucky with the Greek people I’ve met. Three awesome friends who are from Greece. Great great food. I’d love to visit Greece someday.

    Nice video ladies! Έτσι είναι στην πατρίδα but on my last trip, March 2019, I noticed they talk like they are angry with each other.
