This was the first riff I learned on guitar when I was a kid. First guitar solo I learned as an adult. It's only appropriate that it be the first song I learn on drums. Thanks so much for the tutorial! You made it super easy
Starting teaching myself to play drums in August of 2019. Midway thru last year I starting taking some lessons every few weeks, and I've learned more about understanding sheet music. Although, I've tried to keep teaching myself how to use what I've learned and apply it to learning songs. Your tutorial is perfect for someone like me who has just enough background to understand what you're doing and being able to learn each part of the song. Thanks a ton for this tutorial. I should be playing this soon enough!
@@spyrosdiamantopoulos5752 do like he does, break it into parts and listen to the real song. Also use the drum less track on TH-cam from the Guitar Hero series of uploads. It has visual queues to help you time the beats. This isn’t an overly difficult song. Depends on where you are with your experience behind the kit. Practice, and be sure you’re practicing it right otherwise you build bad habits.
@@spyrosdiamantopoulos5752 Just write it down on paper, study and practice playing very slow. Work up the speed a little more, and a little more, etc. Eventually you'll get it. When you're struggling with one part, focus on that part. Don't worry about anything prior to or following where you are struggling. Once you're feeling more comfortable start a few measures prior to where you're having issues, and follow through a couple measures after. Then try again, etc. You will get it. Not long after I watched this video I did a cover (I'm very much still learning to play to this day) and when I look back I see all kinds of mistakes that were made. Maybe I'll do it again to compare my improvement.
Wanted to write this, you can clearly hear hi hats in the song. Just not sure which toms are used. Probably smaller one, since right hand is busy with hi hat. Some other details I am not sure about. Is double tom missing at 2:00 and 2:15 before crash? Edit, I listened this carefully, there is no double tom accent before those crashes. This is correct on the video. Only before first crash. And at 3:05 there is no kick drum originally. But generally, great video
Thank you very much. I am a newbie and I am watching in slow motion 😂 but I am slowly learning how to handle it. Thanks again. Is there any chance to have a full sheet?
To be honest if you close mic any drum kit it’ll generally sound better (closer and less harsh). I don’t do anything special with my tuning and I reckon the Coated G2 heads are a pretty big part of the sound I get. And tuning, like everything else, just takes practice. The more you do it the more confident you’ll get pulling a sound!
At the beginning with the toms if played with 3 or more toms the high tom accents on 2, 4, and the & of 4 would be middle tom on 2, high tom on 4, and middle tom on the & of 4. (Source was watching footage of Metallica's 1991 Moscow concert)
Nah not really. I just try to find a pitch that resonates or “sings” well with that size drum. Then I’ll tune the bottom head about a semi tone higher than the top head and that usually gets the toms sounding pretty nice!
Man you are doing absolutely amazing work to learn us all these song. I am really appreciate this!! BUT the sound quality is sadly bad :( it's better than 2 years ago but still
@@LearnSomeDrums I can't clearly hear your voice and drum kit sound at the same volume level as a other youtube videos. The sound is not deep and clear enough
Awesome video! Really helped me out a lot, I'm really interested in heavy metal and rock music. You're channel deserves more subscribers. PS I'm a young drummer (13) and live in Essex does anyone need a drummer for a band that does rock and metal.😎 Thanks for the heart man love you.... No homo though
So I learned the most of this song from this video and thank you, the only problem i have is you didn't slow down that last part which really screwed me uo
The toms and floor tom rythm kinda sounds like bullet with bitterfly wings by smashing pumpkins... wonder if jimmy chamberliane used this as inspiration....
It’s 90% the head for sure. It’s an Evans Hydraulic which is great for that fat, slappy snare sound... but not too much else, so it’s a bit of a commitment to one sound.
LearnSomeDrums ok, I’m a real noob to the gear and working out what affects something, or if it doesn’t, and all the other aspects to the actual gear of the kit, Btw could you do a certain romance by arctic monkeys and 3 days grace animal I have become?
@@LearnSomeDrums How good do you think it would sound on a piccolo snare? I have a 13x3 steel snare that only sounds good tuned high with an ambassador or evans hd dry but I want a deeper punchier sound.
Thanks a lot for all the tips you provide ! Do you plan to post something for the drum'n'bass genre ? Something from Prodigy or Pendulum ? It would be so much fun ;) Cheers from France bro'
Any tips for the fill at 11:40? I've been trying to figure it out for a bit now and it just doesn't sound right. I'm not that great with sheet music either so I can't really figure out what going in there. Thanks in advance!
Maybe break it into two halves. The second half is just 2 on the snare 2 on the first tom 2 on the snare and 2 on the floor Tom. The first half count is “1 and 2 and a” and hopefully that launches you nicely into the second half. Good luck!
I think your response was a tad abrupt, my young son who I instill the value of kindness with, was impressed with your teaching style. However, your short abrupt answer gives a different impression! No, sorry not my style, might have bn more appropriate!

Hi hat with the left foot, so in this song just both feet together basically!

14 x 6.5 Yamaha Brass. I’ve got an Evans hydraulic head on it to give it more “thud” and less “crack”. 🥁
