Happy New year Don! i can relate with you so much on the always needing to listen to something, always need to do something, i think part of that with me is that I am dealing with anxiety/depression and a podcast can sort of take me out of my own head for a little while.

One thing I found was that when I didn't listen to background noise as much, I was able to be with my own thoughts much more easily, with time. I could just BE in the moment and be okay with that. I had more anxious thoughts at first, but with self-work, I was able to build a healthier internal dialog in those moments of silence. Everyone's circumstance is different for sure so do what's right for you.

I like to setup my life weeks beforehand to make sure the new years is going to actually come into fruition.

What mostly resonated with me is the fact we can't just change our lives within one day by simply stating what we would like our life to look like. It is a process and we should all aim for gradual change so that at the end of 2025, not January/February, through small wins we will be able to look in the mirror and say 'you did it'. Wishing you 2025 full of perseverance.

Yeah, it's certainly a dopamine hit to come up with a new plan for your life. Some people just get high on the idea of it.

All that you said the hardest thing to give up is caffeine, nice video and mentality. It's pretty much looks like a stoic vision

I'm a big fan of aiming for a stoic mindset - not completely, but much closer to it than I am today. It's really good for grounding men especially.

This is a good adjustment in perspective. The change up potentially keeps you from falling into "make a resolution, break it in two months, don't think about it again all year" lull.

Yeah, especially if you have a habit of breaking resolutions early.

oh, that's interesting to hear you talk about alcohol. I just abstained completely from alcohol throughout 2024 in its entirety. I'm not sure it did me any good, but it sure didn't hurt!

It definitely didn't hurt. The mental and physical consequences are well researched. Then again, if you were just drinking a few days out of the year, then yeah you probably won't notice much of a difference. Hopefully you built up some good habits in 2024!

New Year's resolutions should be called January resolutions. That's the only time you're gonna do them.
For the last year and a half, I've been taking life 2 weeks at a time. I set 2 or 3 achievable goals and give myself the whole 2 weeks to get them done.
Not only does life move considerably slower, but you end up getting a lot accomplished.
Time moves so fast when you think months or years ahead
"In the next 3 years, I'm gonna do this!".... Next thing you know it's been 5 and you haven't done shit

Interesting point. I think you're right.
