Japanese Art Stores are really good… But how is Art Supplies Shopping is Osaka compared to Tokyo? After my experience in Tokyo, I was eager to experience Osaka through some of its art stores. Especially when this is the hometown of my favourite gouache brand, Holbein!
Join me as I explore the Holbein Showroom to buy my favourite gouache supplies. Afterwards, we'll take a stroll around the city, then make a stop at the famous Kawachi Art Store to discover a new brand of watercolour paper. I very conveniently forgot to bring paper with me, giving myself the perfect excuse to buy a new block today ;-)
After a much-needed specialty coffee break, I'll search for a cosy spot to engage in one of Japan's most beloved activities: people watching! The art supplies won't go to waste as I'll use them directly to paint the passers-by in real time.

It's nice to see someone with a realistic budget. I wish I could buy everything but can't so it's relatible to stick to a list.
Yes! It's also not so enjoyable for me to have supplies that I don't use so it's definitely helpful to make a list based on your needs ^^

What a lovely vlog! I just happened to place an order for a small batch of Holbein watercolor paints I'm buying secondhand from another artist who has them so I could try them out when I go travel to visit my hometown later this month. So this is what a fellow painter meant when they mentioned that good quality art supplies are affordable over there in Japan; it's good to know that you prepared ahead of time so that when you enter the shop you can get what you need and stick to your budget hehe. Thank you so much for sharing this day with us! Seeing you paint outdoors makes me look forward to likewise doing the same too. 😊

Happy you enjoyed the video! ❤️ I was genuinely surprised with the prices of the art supplies in Japan, considering a tube of Holbein Acryla Gouache or Turner cost between 7 to 15€ in Europe (if I can find one).

I wanted so many Holbein products. I wish we had that store here in UK. Good idea with sample papers with paintings on to see how the paper behaves. Love your painting too.

Thank you for sharing your adventures! Would you happen to remember how the prices at the Holbein showroom compared to the other art shops? Were the supplies more expensive at the showroom compared to the other art shops?
I think an acryla gouache tube was around 100¥ cheaper at the showroom! 😊

If you had to pick one for art supply shopping, which would you pick: Osaka or Tokyo? Meanwhile, I enjoyed your video and find your paintings inspiring.
Oh, that's a tough question! If I really really had too (like really really really) it would be Tokyo. It's bigger and there is much more to explore (which can also be tiring). But otherwise, I'd just not choose, it's only 2 hrs apart by train 😆

Holbein gouache was cheaper at the showroom 😊 I have a Tokyo video that included Sekaido too!
