  • This is a full instructional and tutorial for how to target inshore saltwater species when wade fishing. I break down the tides, how to wade fish certain areas with high and low tides- and I go through my video library to take you through different scenarios and how to best approach each.
Wade fishing is one of my favorite ways to catch saltwater fish - and it's one of the most rewarding for sure!!
Expect more of these tutorials and vids to come!

Good stuff. I'm a newbie to inshore salt. Appreciate your vid because it focuses on teaching instead of just showing off like a lot of fishing vids out there. I like that you explain the details of the ecosystem and fish behavior. Thanks!

I used my first popping cork this past September at the OBX wading fishing for Drum and Trout. It is one of my favorite types of fishing but like you said there is so much water it can be intimidating. Thanks for the pointers, love the videos.

Just focus on the areas that stand out from the rest and try and look at is as like a test- would you rather have open ended question or multiple choice - multiple choice increases your chances of being right. So instead of trying to hit everywhere - just try and pin point areas that stand out from the rest and that way you can essentially eliminate unproductive spots and focus on areas where fish should hold

Great tutorial. I do believe I know where you were wading. The only place I did have some limited success with the fly rod. Not alot of fly fisherman in that area. I won't be in Virginia Beach until next August. Winter steelhead fishing in New York til spring.

I will be in Va. Beach next week during Thanksgiving, and would you give advice on what “general” areas we might find reds, black drums and/or trout. To be honest really any thing. Were staying close to the Wooden Pier on Va. Bch. We would like to try some flats fishing. Any advice would be great. Please feel free to email me. Great videos!

When setting up the leader on a popping cork, how do you determine the leader length? I mean you're gonna be fishing drop-offs and then shallow flats, etc. Is there a general leader length (2ft-3ft?). I know you have to live with some hangups/breakoffs, just looking for a rule of thumb. In the HHI are you pretty much need a boat...to cover water, I've found that wading is iffy at best (puff/fluff mud=exciting times) Thanks for your content.

Thanks for the tutorial! I am new to the coast (in NC about 1 hr south of Wilmington) and have been trying to learn all the tips and tricks for flounder, drum and trout. Can you give some guidance on the popping cork? Is it just cast and a slow retrieval? Or do you let it sit still in the water for a time before retrieving? Thanks again.

dthoma128 cast pop sit...pop sit reel...pop sit reel...find out the speed of fast or slow by how the fish react to the bait

Jeff, how do you determine the safety of the bottoms?. We deal with a ton of fluff mud here in the low country.I've been stuck like a dinosaur several times...lol.

Excellent question!! Honestly it's a little difficult to tell but best thing when you're going to new area is go to a local tackle shop that should be able to tell you what the ground is and if people wade fish in the area. We went to the Keys and walked out thinking it would get less muddy and it only got more muddy. So between having a general idea going into it - and also grass and oysters tend to have ground that is more solid
