Hi jory, The "residue" you mention is the end of the thread thats been burn to make the thread-end wont be frayed easily. Unfortunately the maker didnt pull it backwards to conceal the "residue". (im a strap maker too 😉
@@mr.airgun6921 Its actually kinda normal on these cheap rally straps to have it (not only rally, even the "vintage" plain ones with the simple thread. Even some high end ones do it. They use a single thread on each hole, so they burn it on both sides (under and upper side). They should use a single thread for the two sides and hide the burning only on the under side. It actually pisses me off as well. I had one with the same "problem", and hated it - was really close to throw it away. But I just cut the original thread, bought some new thread and remade it myself with a single thread per two holes, with the burning at the under side - it's not that hard to do it.

I’ve been getting my leather straps from ManCave Leather for about a year now. You can’t get the same quality for the price anywhere else. Quality is top notch and Mykola (the owner) will make you a custom strap in any size. For those commenting that they are on the fence about making a purchase, try them out, you won’t be disappointed!!
I also make handmade strap and without knowing this guy I have to say his work is pretty amazing. You might think these are expensive straps, but the quality is so much better than your typical leather strap. These will develop a nice patina unlike cheaper straps. There are many options for quality handmade straps on etsy, but this guy is good for sure.

I found Mykola on Etsy a few years ago and had him make a custom length strap for me. By far my favorite and most used strap I own. Definitely agree on the single large keeper - best feature that others should look to replicate. It has been the perfect strap for everything from my Hamilton Khaki Field to currently hanging out on a Breitling Aerospace. Nice work!
The Oris looks incredible. At first I didn't care for the green rally strap, but after you put it on the crono ... total transformation. They all look first class.

I have 100's of straps. Each one at one point was like wow, awesome strap, A-team. Most have been replaced with a cooler or more unique. Thrown in the drawer. I wonder if it was how Huge Hefner felt? Hmmm
Jory, my "expertise" in Leather, comes from years of collecting Flight Jackets. IMHO, in general terms the Patterns on Leather is referred to as Grain. But, the Distressed Finish ( where the Top Finish is coming off) is"open" to interpretation. So "crackling" is Ok ... Best Wishes. ;-)
I don't care for the rally straps. I just don't like the two horizontal threads up by the lugs. Seems like it has really become popular, but to me, it just looks like a cheap quick way to secure the top of the strap. The first strap was nicely done though. Thanks for bringing this strap maker to my attention. I wasn't aware of him before.
Mahalo Jody! Got me thinking of the watches I'd t throw these straps on. The third one you unwrapped, the brown crackled, would look amazing on a patinated bronze diver I think. And that Pogue is niiiice! The strap you called the darker one appears to have dark blue stitching which looked great against the blue of the bezel but the one you choose is excellent!

Very, very nice straps! Really like that man cave leather! I'ma go check em out. I have the exact Seiko solar chronograph and am having a heck of a time getting it going. The capacitor went bad so I replaced it but if still don't work. I pulled the paper like material off the back of the new capacitor put it in and tried to charge it up but nothing. Maybe I wasn't supposed to take that off? It runs under strong light with no battery in at all and when I put the battery in and put it under the light it won't even at all. Anyone have any ideas? Did I ruin the new capacitor maybe? It's such a nice watch.🤔😕
Liked the vintage look and the ralley straps, not so much the crackling type. A bit on the pricey side, so I would be selective about what kind of watch I'd use them on, probably not an Oris. Didn't see the vintage type on their website though.
SSC 081 is a beautiful watch. I wish it was 200m water resistant. But still, the watch looks great. Is there anything that comes to mind that looks like this seiko (but has 200 meter WR?
It’s my opinion but if you are spending 60-90.00 for each strap I think the “B&R racing rally strap in cognac” looks better and is probably better quality for 89.99

It's what should have been used by the "strap company", who's glue. eventually looks like "snot" ! Also, It should applied Only from the underside of the strap, with caution. For example the Tang Holes and where ever else They fray on the Canvas or Elastic Parachute types as well. It comes in different viscosities - some very Thin ... some is expressly Flexible (but a Thicker consistency) . Amazon will take you to a page for Fishing Products. As this stuff was originally intended for making "Flies", for Fly Fishing. Again, Best Regards !

First leather strap was neato. But i really really really dislike the "stapler pin" look every strap have now. The white/metal parts near the lug attachment. Ugly af.

Yep, they should finish so the end is on the under side like the other straps. Probably a mistake unfortunately

That isn’t glue coming out of the holes… the thread is a waxed thread and when you cut the thread, you use a lighter to "melt" the thread…
Does not look like glue to me. Looks like nylon thread was cut and melted to finish the stitch on that previous rally strap.
