Saco River is Sah- co. I think covered bridges were covered because we get snow Nov- May. No one wants an icy bridge! Oh Lincoln NH actually has Moose finding trips. Lincoln has Clark’s Trading post with the famous trained bears.
That's the answer that makes the most sense so far about the bridges! 👍🏼 Yes, Clark's Trading Post was the first stop we made looking for covered bridges, not realizing the bridge was part of their attractions! I wonder how successful the moose finding trips are. We did see a moose in our previous video while driving the Kancamagus Hwy but it was a very brief sighting!
@ I’ve seen moose a few times. In Plymouth on Rt 3A on side of the rd, by Newfound Lake in a marsh, in Waterville Valley ski area parking lot a momma & baby wandering about. They can charge, so steer clear. Deer, turkeys, owls and fox are in my backyard in Meredith NH.
After watching the hike i am completely exhausted. The view at the top was awesome. With the huge rocks along the trail it would be so easy to turn an ankle. I think i would have paid the Hundred dollars. I`ve gotten spoiled in my old age. Bless you both! Rob
@@mccproc Hahaha! Yeah, it would be really easy to turn an ankle. I'm actually surprised I (Audra) didn't! I'm a bit accident prone! It was good exercise though. A good, but tiring challenge!
Hey guys. First time watching your channel. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are the best. It was great watching your channel with awesome sights and your down to earth style. I’m looking forward to your adventures. Peter from Maine.
Hi Peter! Thanks for the message and welcome to the channel! 🙂 We've got lots of ]Maine content coming up. We love Maine! We also really enjoyed our time in the White Mountains but we think coastal Maine is hard to beat!
What me worry!! Hahahahaha, that's a good one. Love exploring woods with streams. Even if you go the wrong way. Double time Steve! Can't believe there are no benches geezz. Wow! What a view! All in all it was a great hike. Great job guys Glad your feeling better. Audra!
Oh that was a fun video, intense soundtrack, espionage and lots of laughs. also very thankful that we didn't see how Steve shaves his legs in the shower and that he didn't take a bath :)
I am glad you asked the question about why the bridges are covered. I had been thinking that from the first. Guess i will spend some time with google to get some more insight :)
....looking down into that valley from the trail, that is the "Frankenstein Bridge" for the Conway Scenic Railroad Company. It can be seen a lot better from the road but its halfway up that mountain ridge. They still run train excursions over it.
Sadly that's the problem with TH-camrs posting in months delays. They are long gone out of the area with viewers input being offered. The Frankenstein Bridge can briefly be seen at 17:42 in your video. Look in the lower right between the trees basking in the sun. That is the top of the bridge. Probably not wise to walk the RR tracks from your parking spot. Conway Railroad is the only safe way to experience it but too high for me, I'm scared. Although you might see it down from where you parked at the "Crawford Notch Scenic Area" turnoff. It's right there, sort of.
@@Tomtuga Thanks for pointing that out! Yes, you're right. We miss recommendations when we're in an area and also meeting people that didn't know we were there. But we do try to keep track of recommendations from viewers for future visits! We did actually consider doing a train ride. I can't remember if the Conway ride was one of them. But we are always limited in our time so can only pick a few things and miss out on a whole lot more! If only there was more time in a day! 🙂
Van life ain't easy out here! Thanks for giving some love to our little state. Nice to know it's possible, albeit for a short while 😂 also love the humor you bring on the channel. Gave you guys a like. Also if no one else has clarified it's pronounced "Sah - Co". Cheers!

Oh bummer, you needed to keep heading north after Lancaster into Colebrook and Pittsburg. Your chances of seeing a moose on moose alley would have dramatically increased.
The drainage pipes were brought in by helicopter. They don't really provide draining they create a water bar on the trail to divert the water off the trail so the trail does not become a water shoot. For the reward the hike is incredibly simple.
Man, we don't usually get sick but this year has been a killer for us. And I even started slicing up garlic into approximate pill sizes and swallowing it whole. Still got sick! Legs are good for getting places. I'm glad I have them! 😆

We had narrowed it down to this hike or the auto road. Hiking won (much to Steve's dismay! Lol!)
I forgot to mention that the reason covered bridges are covered is to keep the beams and bridge decking from rotting.
That makes sense. Someone else mentioned that it helps prevent snow and rain from building up, which helps prevent ice as well.
