    So clever and useful! I thought this video was going to show a new feature of PS until you said, "Why didn't I come up with this sooner" in the intro. I immediately thought "I bet he uses blend if!" Easing into the colors is a great improvement over the standard clipping features in ACR, Lightroom, etc.

    Thank you once again for your videos. I already have your blend if panel and this technique works well with it. I used the tone curve and pinned the midtones first. Had trouble seeing dark areas untill I relised the blue solid colour layer matched the blue car in the photo, changed it to magenta - no problem.

    Your clipping warnings in Photoshop can serve a secondary purpose, to understand how various blend modes affect an image. Generating a blue and red and creating a curves adjustment, I have cycled through the blend modes and it now tells me how the image will be affected. This can be a great learning tool to help anticipate how a blend mode might be altered.

    • @f64Academy
      @f64Academy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly. Development takes a LOT more than just, "let's put this on here", we have to think about space, where it would fit on the panel, then I have to update every place online where this thing exists and then I have to email thousands of people. It's a nightmare, and the worst of them TBH lol. Maybe, hint hint

    I'm going to buy your course regardless. I think thats very reasonably priced for the average Joe like myself. But do you think that using the blend if is the best way for editing wildlife photos as well? Or is that more geared towards landscapes/portraits etc? I have pretty good images of wildlife but my editing is really bad, photoshop is so confusing

    • @f64Academy
      @f64Academy  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Blend of is not genre specific, it's tone and color specific. Every image has tones and colors 😁 I use blend if on every image that comes through PS regardless of the genre. The course will go in depth on the uses for blend if.

    Hi Blake: I own the blend if panel, but it seems easier to use the actions than it is to create the red and blue and make the adjustments in the blend if panel every time I want to use it. Am I missing something?

    Have you considered using this technique with your 5 tone heat map? It would seem to be a great marriage of the two, though it would require a bit of work. But the benefit is when using curves, you should see the heat map change in real time. Then again, your heat map is a gradient, so I'm curious now which will be more efficient, gradient maps or a series of BlendIf layers. Probably come down to personal choice, but I'm going to test that out for myself.

    • @f64Academy
      @f64Academy  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are both used for different things really. I probably wouldn't use them together as that color map would get horribly confusing. This is much simpler.

    Your Blend IF panel is an excellent addition to my workflow! And the clipping warning looks very useful, but I need some help (probably an operator head space & timing issue) fixing only the clipped areas identified by the actions. Would you please show slow learners like myself how you would do that?

    • @f64Academy
      @f64Academy  ปีที่แล้ว

      You really can't fix something that is already clipped, these help you ensure you don't clip them more or avoid it altogether while you are editing

    • @DC-lo2cs
      @DC-lo2cs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@f64Academy Blake, thank you for your reply. Don't fully understand the action's value in real time because I can see changes to clipping while editing in LR. I thought this might be the same. You might show what you would do to an image of yours if you saw those areas identified by your clipping actions?

    • @f64Academy
      @f64Academy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DC-lo2cs taper back on what is causing it, if my edits caused it. Otherwise there isn't much you can do in PS, that would need to be looked at more closely in RAW before PS. But in PS this is the only way of seeing them. That's what I was getting at with the entire video really. In LR you see them in real time, in PS you don't, this is how you do.
