Something u said got me thinking they taste better if they r grown in hot climates. Is that the case? I live on a tropical island so that would be awesome
@@RAREDRAGONFRUIT cuz of u saying that I ordered 2 new types. Cuz since the got climate makee them taste better. I figured the BEST ones to get to make a crazy good dragon fruit would be sugar dragons n palora yellow dragon fruits. I bet they will taste AMAZING!!!
It depends on the variety and the duration of the frost. I only covered my Paloras and Frankie's Red last winter with a trap and wrapped them in Christmas lights when temperatures dipped below 34 degrees. It happened for 3 or 4 nights and the plants are fine. All the other varieties were left uncovered and none of them died. Temperatures below 32 degrees will cause damage to the plants.
@@RAREDRAGONFRUIT That's an awesome information that I need to know. I live in houston texas and we do get temp lower that 32. I just started growing DF a few weeks ago too hahah. Thanks again
Thanks! Look in stores right now for yellow skinned dragon fruit from Ecuador. It's very sweet. However, so far, I liked a variety from Wallace Ranch in Fallbrook... They called it Asunta, but most growers attending the Pithaya Festival called it an Ax, or Asunta cross. Anyways I have a cutting of it. Green skin and purple flesh. It tasked like a kiwi mixed with banana. Thanks for the comment :)
Hi! I'll make a new video on the topic this week. Bring them inside if temps dip below 40 and they are small. You can also do this: th-cam.com/video/RK-x3Au1yhk/w-d-xo.html
Yes, some people have started large collections. I have no idea where they got their seeds. I may have to take a tour of a farm and work on collecting.

I'd imagine in any climate but as long as you are able to control the conditions it'd work, being close to the equator does help though
When you mention winter dragon fruits. What would the lowest temp it can handle? Thanks

Hello from San Diego! I’ve really enjoyed your videos. What is your favorite tasting dragon fruit?

How long it take for a Palora to get from flower to harvest
It depends on the climate, but around 180 days!!
@@RAREDRAGONFRUIT wow that long!
How do u protect dragon fruit plants during winter and I live in the south in Georgia

Thanks for sharing. I am about to embark on my Deagon fruit quest. How may I acquire seeds? I’m on an island in the Pacific. Thanks.
Try to get cuttings locally if possible. Are there any varieties growing on the island?

What's the result of your hybrid palora and s8? :)
It's still a dream. I need the pollen from my Palora.. It hasn't flowered yet. Hopefully I can cross them next year. Thanks for watching.
@@RAREDRAGONFRUITdid it ever happen?!
@@corrnysmith3560 We still wonder
did the sugar dragon come from sprouts??
No, I got cuttings from the person who named it Sugar Dragon. It's also known as 8-S and is one of Paul Thompson's hybrids.
You waist so much fruit
No sir. I ate every last piece and grew the Palora seeds. The piece I dropped was washed off and eaten as soon as I finished filming :)
