My favorite part of watching these playthroughs is to see how long people completely ignore the O2 tank and the scanner, aka the two arguably most useful items in the early game (and both readily fabricated with items at hand).

1. Cooks bladderfish. 2. Tries to enter cave at night unarmed and with no reliable light source. 3. Proceeds to play with floating pink suction cup entities and throwing the few available flares at large creatures. As someone who was taught to secure a source of clean water as my first survival priority, so far I'm mildly concerned and deeply amused ngl. 😅 Hahahahaha.
Pretty much every TH-camr I've seen playing this game would be dead in hours in a real life survival situation... :) Subnautica is incredibly easy and forgiving when it comes to survival. When I first played it I built a scanner first thing because I expected half the fish you can grab to turn out to be poisonous or toxic in some way killing you if you are them. I wanted to know everything I could about the environment and creatures before I gobbled them up. But turns out the game is easy and you can't accidentally eat dangerous things. Imagine if he actually could have eaten an acid mushroom first episode and dissolved his insides first thing... The game is very forgiving. I didn't even discover you could use bladderfish for water untill hours into the game, because securing the resources to make bleach to then make a stable source of clean water was my first priority together with the scanner. And it turned out that strategy was WAY more efficient since if you store bleach you store 60 potential water which is even more than the large waters that only contain 50. So I never used bladderfish again beyond that one time mid game. I just can't wrap my head around how scatterbrained, unfocussed and easily distracted these players are. Just figure out what you're going to build, note resources needed, go out and gather, and return and manufacture. And FFS stay focussed on plan. He's been playing for almost 3 hours by this point and doesn't even have the most basic survival gear provided in the game like a knife, air tanks, fins, and so on... It's a train wreck, yet I can't look away... :)
@@_-NatureMations-_ I disagree with that notion. To my perception, most people play the way they *learned* to play games. That means that many players are suffering from the underdeveloped systems and game mechanics that most games are designed with. With that I'm also referring to the far too common MMORPGs or MMOs in general. They are providing unbelievably stupid game mechanics that are stunningly laughable if compared to anything in the real world. Many players try to apply what they learned there to just any game, even when it's a smarter designed one. Which leads to these "laughable" conflicts of expectation vs reality as seen in videos like this one.
@@Kijinn @johanwittens7712 Or maybe people just don't take it that seriously because, you know, it's a game, and they are trying to have fun? Reminder that Subnautica is not a real life survival situation. Efficiency, careful deliberation, and realistic safety does not actually matter in video game as long as you are, you know, having fun. For some people, ignoring the main objectives, being easily sidetracked, taking the game at a slow pace, and learning the hard way about things like the water are you know, more enjoyable to some people. Nobody is forcing you to watch these videos. Go watch speedrunners or something if you can't stand anything but absolute perfection and efficiency.
Glad I wasn't the only one who thought they had ADHD with this game. It's just so much stuff thrown at you all while you're trying to juggle the oxygen and keeping an eye to the depths for potential danger, it's so easy to set out on a mission and get completely distracted from what you intended lol.
love that you also worried about the fish population while scavenging. Was gifted this game from a friend because I’m a marine biologist and they had to deal with me constantly questioning how much i could take and thinking through this game like it was our on ocean xD
I'm excited for tomorrow's episode! I also thought I'd mention that I fully support the idea of longer episodes, if that turns out to be something you're considering with this series lol.
15:00 I know you are way ahead so I should be safe to say this, but yes you can diminish the types of fish in an area, but they will reproduce over time. So, say you go after nothing but bladderfish in an area, it will be harder and harder to find them in that area. You would have to search for them in new areas, but after time they will come back.
I'm very late but I'm excited to be watching this series finally! Your casual exploration of the area while your water meter got into the single digits stressed me the fuck out haha. Can't wait to see you learn more about this fun (and fucked up) planet!
Also the game doesnt look too dark on YT, at least on my screen, its slightly darker than when I play the game, but this game gets so dark that the difference is barely noticable
11:46 it is not possible to craft multiple at a time, however, if you hold Shift when you click, it wont close the menu, so you wont have to move your mouse back
Here I am again after Outer Wilds then Undertale, LOL. I think I'll get back into Subnautica while watching this one. It was just too much thrown at your face that I got very nervous.
I was looking for a new Subnautica lp, and I've been really enjoying this! I love how analytically you're approaching the game, and how excited you are to play it (and also how on edge you are 😝)
So I literally just found you cause I was looking for people to be scared and I just saw that you played Outer Wilds (an amazing game) with one of the longest series of that game that I’ve ever seen so I am absolutely gonna be sticking round here for a bit
You wouldn't believe how long it took me to realize there was a storage container on the pod. I don't know how, but I just completely missed it was there! I was so embarrased when I finally realized 😂
I found your playthrough via the search feature, and I'm enjoying your playthrough so far! I know it's far too late, but it is rather unfortunate that the game sound is SO low. Especially the music/atmosphere since those two things add so much to the game. If you happen to play through Sub Zero (or any other game for that matter), I'm sure viewers would greatly appreciate a better sound balance between your commentary and the game's music, atmospheric soundtrack, and sound effects.
Hi Kimberly! Thanks for the comment and sorry the sound is low for you. Honestly, you're the first person to say this in 70 episodes of subnautica, and the audio has always seemed fine to me... are you listening through a specific device? is it the same with/without headphones? Just trying to figure it out. Cheers! Ryan
@@lilindigestion Hi Ryan. Sorry for the delayed response. It's completely possible that it's just my setup, but I just wanted to mention it in case anyone else was experiencing something similar. Perhaps most people watch with headphones? I rarely use headphones, so that could be my issue. Anyways, thanks for taking the time to respond!
One of my criticisms of this game is that it has a PDA that assists you with survival, and yet, doesn't help you with inventory management - e.g. PDA says, "You can't hold everything in this ocean, so don't pick it up unless you NEED it, just remember where it is in case you do later." - this game is not a game for hoarders.
Not gonna lie, part of me is bummed there weren't other survivors but I can understand why there weren't either. But if Subnautica ever gets a "Dont Starve Together" treatment I'd 100% be on board with changing it up so those other survivors are playable characters for co-op.
LOL, "How did it get old?" referring to food you cooked. My guess would be that time had passed. The food decay system in this game is atrocious, as is the hunger and thirst mechanic. It seeks to interfere with the game play as opposed to augment the game play. So often you will be in the middle of a grand adventure and have to go find some food or water.
That's always the case with Let's Plays like this. Each episode has some views less than the prior one, because people (myself sometimes lol) just stop watching after some point
