Didn't work on my sample, but mine wasn't compressed audio like most music is today. Instructions: After installing Audacity and the LADSPA plugins, this video can be distilled to 3 simple steps: 1) [Effect] [karoake] -- Move slider all the way to the left. 2) [Effect] [Vocal remover (for center panned vocals)] 3) [Effect] [Invert] Done
@Ghosteriz The reason is that in an mp3 the vocals are recorded on both stereo tracks, while the instrumentation is recorded, some on the left track and some on the right one. The way this methode works is by inverting one of the tracks and then re-mixing it with the other one, the one common wave to both tracks cancells. But since the waves are not perfectly distributed and because the instrumentation is not completely biased towards one side or the other, there will be remains
On this website click on green parts ''Download Now'' and then install it. it will work download.cnet.com/Audacity-LADSPA-plug-ins-installer/3000-2170_4-10607999.html
@StacyFrenzzz Basically you want to save the plugins in the "Plugins" sub-folder inside the "Audacity 1.3 Unicode" folder... sorry if I was in anyway unclear about this... I'm not sure if you can cut and paste (if not than you have to reinstall it) and again, when it asks you where to save it save it in the "Plugins" sub-folder in the "Audacity 1.3 Unicode" folder
I struggled a little bit at first... i was following the steps as you showed and it wasnt sounding any good at all. so i tried with a different song and BAM!! it WORKS! ... Thanks!
What do you mean? You already have the plugins used in the video by default. If you can't see them, try reinstalling the program. They should reappear if you did not have them before
+Ruru Roy, you may need to go over "Generate" > "Manage" and look for "Karaoke" plugin. After that, hit "Enable" and then you should be able to see the Karaoke option on "Effect" tab.
@StacyFrenzzz what you need to do, (which is what I did) uninstall everything, then reinstall audacity, then make a note of where it is being saved, then install the ladspa plugin but when it askes you where to save too, change the folder to the audacity 1.3 Beta file, then restart your pc and when you open audacity it will run like a pulling al the plugins thing and then when it opens all the plug ins are there hope that helps
It would have been worthwhile if the video had audio too. If not, it would have been great if your screen navigation was slower and steps were detailed. It was all too quick.
For people not seeing the plugins after install.... 1. Make sure it installed it in your actual Audacity path. My Audacity path was different (windows7) than the plugin installer's default choice. If it installed elsewhere, move them to proper place. (real Audacity folder / Plug-Ins) Then... 2. In Audacity, go to EDIT > PREFERENCES > Effects > Check this box: "Rescan VST effects next time Audacity is started" ...then restart Audacity. Should see them after both steps.
On Audacity 2.0.2, the "karaoke" button at 1:55 isn't there. But if you go to the bottom of the list, there is a "vocal remover" selection. Click that and it works similarly.
One thing to remember. If you don't have the original INDIVIDUAL VOCAL TRACK you can never truly get rid of it. The mixdown process inhibits your ability to individually mute/un-mute tracks. So you will always have vocals in these examples.
Colum8o google "Audacity plugins" and you should see a wiki page its the audacity wiki it tells you how to install them and where to get them or you could type "audacity karaoke plugin" into google and find it that way
download LADSPA Plug-ins in this page, www.audacityteam.org/download/plug-ins/ if you want direct link, here www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/LADSPA_plugins-win-0.4.15.exe
Audacity 2.0 has "Vocal Remover" that does the same as the Karaoke effect. The SWH karaoke plug-in is available from the main Audacity web site as part of the LADSPA plug-in pack. The effect ONLY works if the vocal to be removed is dead centre of the stereo mix - that's how the effect works, it removes sounds that are identical in left and right tracks. The video includes several nonsense steps that are not required, just look up "Vocal Remover" in the Audacity manual.
How to get the Karaoke plugin: like said on my previous post you CANNOT copy and paste... Instead you NEED to select the folder when it asks in the installation where to save it. Select the audacity folder and press the plus or double click and save the plugins in plugins sub-folder. So basically do NOT save the plugins in the folder just called "Audacity" Save the plugins in the sub-folder of the Audacity 1.3 (Unicode) folder Hope this helped... also some tracks are immune to this effect
You cannot always remove vocals, and sometimes, not all the way. Most technology depends on the vocals being in mono with no stereo effect. If there is reverb or echo, you will hear that. This is also why, with most vocal effect removers, you'll notice the drums getting softer, ESP. Bass. A quick easy way to remove vocals is to simply highlight one channel and invert it. Cheers
Hi I downloaded the Karaoke plugin and did what you did exactly. The vocals are a lot quieter but not completely removed. Is there anything else I can do?
@Tomboy1Girl If you saved it to the wrong folder, unfortunately yes you will have to uninstall and when it asks you where to save it when you are installing the plugin just remember to save it in the "Plugins" subfolder in the "Audacity 1.3 (Unicode) folder then restart your computer or Audacity and when you open up Audacity again it will scan the folder "Plugins" (and this will have to happen every time you open Audacity) Hope this helps
Install the plugins in the plugin folder..... but that would generate one plugin folder which has to be deleted and all files in that folder should be shifted to original plug ins folder...... also from same site"audacity" download vst enabler and install it in plugins folder.... it will work.
Hi there I am wondering which version of Audacity you are using to remove vocals on a piece of music. On my audacity I could not find Aliasing which give the option to choose karaoke and then followed by the rest of the options to remove the vocals from the music. I have tried only just "inverting" but the vocals still remain quite loud, what should I do? Thanks much for your help!
I have got all the plug-ins now, but I still can't remove the vocal 100% from the song...the vocal is still there like it didn't disappear at all...can you teach me what to do? thank you!
okay. this could have been more helpful if the steps were written up in the description: download and install "ladspa" plugin to audacity plugin folder then restart computer author of this vid played around with these effects in this order: 1. karaoke effect - slide all way to left -70 2. remove vocalization 3. invert while don't believe this is a universal fix, hey, it's a start. you probably have to play around with additional settings and/or split the track
What plugin did you use re: "Aliasing" . . . I just downloaded Audacity again (tried it a few years ago, but just kept freezing, etc) . . . need to wipe some vocs out. Also, do you know if it's possible to wipe out only a portion of the vocals??? Thanx!
heey does this work on any song? because I'm trying to take the vocals off from a song and i did all the steps like you just did but there's still some sort of "Noticeable" vocals from the singer.

this karaoke tool is great but it doesn't completely removed the vocals, just made it more quiet, but i can still hear it (i tried this on Slayer - Dead Skin Mask)
Hi, I've tried to do what you show in this video, however note that the downloaded version of audacity does not have all the same options and what your using so I cant get 100% vocals of the song, can you please confirm what version of audacity your using, is it just the downloadable version or another. how to downdoad it than?

I struggled a little bit at first... i was following the steps as you showed and it wasnt sounding any good at all. so i tried with a different song and BAM!! it WORKS! ... Thanks!
fuck those options which is not mention in my audacity..... :@
+Ruru Roy they are plugins
+Daniel Rowlands Molpeceres how do I get those plug ins?

You really rocked man !!!!!
It did not removed the vocals completely but It's like no one can recognize vocals
still hear the vocals and my bass and drums are gone
For me it makes the vocals partially audible and takes away the punch of the song. Not much I can ask for with a free plugin. Better than nothing.
@StacyFrenzzz what you need to do, (which is what I did) uninstall everything, then reinstall audacity, then make a note of where it is being saved, then install the ladspa plugin but when it askes you where to save too, change the folder to the audacity 1.3 Beta file, then restart your pc and when you open audacity it will run like a pulling al the plugins thing and then when it opens all the plug ins are there

Escape The Fate , Attack Attack! , Eyes Set To Kill . man you are really good in choosing musci genres . like your style :D
I can see why you wanted to remove the vocals from this crap song. Your ears are saved!
Enter Shikari are awesome
AboodyTUBE fuck no nigga
That's right
YES! You get the same results as in this video, and the way you have demonstrated doesn't require the karaoke effect.
I love that Enter Shikari is the band you chose.
ya! :D

this is the best vocals remover video in you tube but not remove it 100%
can you help me with it ? i got a problem with that the vocals are gone its crackin as shit
On Audacity 2.0.2, the "karaoke" button at 1:55 isn't there. But if you go to the bottom of the list, there is a "vocal remover" selection. Click that and it works similarly.
It works... but not on older songs pre 1991...
+latinfreestylesoulvinyl that is because of how they used to create the stereo tracks then and now
latinfreestylesoulvinyl i know I want to remove Betty Hutton's voice on murder he says
One thing to remember. If you don't have the original INDIVIDUAL VOCAL TRACK you can never truly get rid of it. The mixdown process inhibits your ability to individually mute/un-mute tracks. So you will always have vocals in these examples.
umm i have latest version of audacity 2.0.6 and it doesnt have karaoke effect? pls help
you need to install it go to the wiki page
CyberSimsShows what is the wiki page?
Colum8o google "Audacity plugins" and you should see a wiki page its the audacity wiki it tells you how to install them and where to get them or you could type "audacity karaoke plugin" into google and find it that way
CyberSimsShows thanks alot for the help but it didnt remove the vocals :P all that effort for nothing
Colum8o yea sometimes it doesn't remove vocals from songs :/
This just pushed the vocals to the back and I can still hear them. Followed the steps perfectly.
can anyone explain why i don't have the karaoke effect?
U need to download it. But i did it and it did not work like this even though i did the same things. :/
I think you have an awesome taste in music! =) Don't let these people try to tell you any different, okay?
That Karaoke option doesn't exist on mine. Any suggestions?
He already released a video on how to get that option. There are also helpful comments on that video.
tu̮b̋ta͙béä́ble which video? Haha
Truth is you really didn't want to teach how to do it, but to show that YOU can.
my audacity has no karaoke effect?
You Should Have Audocity 1.3 Beta Version To Perform This Method.
+Rohan's Sims It shows as Vocal Remover instead of Karaoke.
This video shows you how to download karaoke plug in for Audocity.
th-cam.com/video/2CeEkOwcjy0/w-d-xo.html Karaoke plug in For Audocity ,see how to find the plug in you need
download LADSPA Plug-ins in this page, www.audacityteam.org/download/plug-ins/
if you want direct link, here www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/LADSPA_plugins-win-0.4.15.exe
Respect for the amount of Shikari in your music library!
Didn't work for me. 50/50. It's always the obnoxious voices you can't get rid of.
+Humza Younas
*Typical isn't it, they really want to be heard*
which version is this??
Hmmmmm the bass just disappears......
Ummm, one - you have an amazing assortment of music,
As for number two, where did you get the plug-in for the Karaoke option (if you had one)?
tnx man its works
Audacity 2.0 has "Vocal Remover" that does the same as the Karaoke effect.

what version of audacity is this? i can't find some options in my effect menu. please answer. thanks!
You have to download them
How to get the Karaoke plugin: like said on my previous post you CANNOT copy and paste...
Instead you NEED to select the folder when it asks in the installation where to save it.
Select the audacity folder and press the plus or double click and save the plugins in plugins sub-folder.
So basically do NOT save the plugins in the folder just called "Audacity"
Save the plugins in the sub-folder of the Audacity 1.3 (Unicode) folder
Hope this helped... also some tracks are immune to this effect
Doesn't work. Actually learning to play an instrument would be easier than trying to remove vocals from a song for karaoke lol
works a little better w/ Thy Art is Murder - Reign of Darkness
but i can still hear some lines etc: "Fear me", "i am hell"
Worked fine for me!! Thank you for the tutorial!
+Anil Viswas glad for hearing that, you welcome
there's a link to the plug-ins blatantly stated at the beginning of the video.
finally i found one which does work!!!! :D 10/10!!!

Sounds like that shits underwater or something
Bison exactly... I tried doing it and my god it was disgusting.. Villuminati to be specific. Everything worked but it's distorted as fuck
Thank you for the info!!! That helped a lot! I was like "How the heck do I get karaoke?". haha
audacity version 2.0.6 don't have KARAOKE OPTION, and removing vocals doesn't work with every song..

Thanks for the plugins and the tutorials bro! any idea how to remove the vocals that stay behind as a murmur?? Appreciate your effort and help.
th-cam.com/video/2CeEkOwcjy0/w-d-xo.html video shows how to get karaoke button
To ALL confused people:
"Karaoke" is not part of any Audacity version. It is a plug-in you must download off some website that has plug-ins.
i dont find the Aliasing >karaoke menu in effect
LOL
what a failed app
Actually, the other way of doing it didn't work for me, so I'm glad this was here.
What version is yours? I just download the 2.0.4 version and when I click on effect, it doesn't have the karaoke like yours.
You cannot always remove vocals, and sometimes, not all the way. Most technology depends on the vocals being in mono with no stereo effect. If there is reverb or echo, you will hear that. @Tomboy1Girl If you saved it to the wrong folder, unfortunately yes you will have to uninstall and when it asks you where to save it when you are installing the plugin just remember to save it in the "Plugins" subfolder in the "Audacity 1.3 (Unicode) folder then restart your computer or Audacity and when you open up Audacity again it will scan the folder "Plugins" (and this will have to happen every time you open Audacity)

hahahahaah kos om mayteen omoo, law 2a3d tol 3omr ma 7ayfham :D
in the new audacity there is a vocal remover option at the end of the list, for anyone having problems with the extra download
Go to the audacity website, go to download, then on the left side go to "plugins-ins and libraries." Download and install the LADSPA plug-ins
Hey mun...thanks this is the best i gotten to remove vocals....u can still hear a lil something but wen u singing u will cover it......
Install the plugins in the plugin folder..... but that would generate one plugin folder which has to be deleted and all files in that folder should be shifted to original plug ins folder...... also from same site"audacity" download vst enabler and install it in plugins folder.... it will work.
@NicoleMHardin how to download karaoke???? do u hve the website??? can u give??? i need...plist3
@seraphiminflight Your tips were very helpful but I downloaded a ladspa plugin (mac) and it didn't include the "remove vocalization" option.
awesome bro, it worked perfectly as u told. thanks a lot !!!
what version of the audacity do you use? because i dont have the option o karaoke on mine..
i think it will work only if the recording is divided, like music at the right and vocals at the left?
where do you get all those effects i only have the original that came with audacity
@Aboody2hotty downloaded the LADSPA plug-ins and now tracks no longer work for my audacity. I can import them, but there's no audio.
Hi there
I am wondering which version of Audacity you are using to remove vocals on a piece of music. On my audacity I could not find Aliasing which give the option to choose karaoke and then followed by the rest of the options to remove the vocals from the music.
I have tried only just "inverting" but the vocals still remain quite loud, what should I do? Thanks much for your help!
@StacyFrenzzz....You have to download karaoke!!!Hope that helps
it really works! thanx for ur help :)
It's still there, but better than what most can do! Thank you so much!!!
I have got all the plug-ins now, but I still can't remove the vocal 100% from the song...the vocal is still there like it didn't disappear at all...can you teach me what to do? thank you!
Where did you download the karaoke plugin?
Indeed work much but there is one audio track I have that is WEIRDLY only removes background music and vocal was retained...
Jesus christ, some of these ignorant comments, saying the Music is shit. Keep it in your heads, don't go blaring about it. Grow up.
question.. where did u get the karaoke plug-in???
Where did you get those "plug-ins" from?
okay. this could have been more helpful if the steps were written up in the description:
download and install "ladspa" plugin to audacity plugin folder then restart computer
author of this vid played around with these effects in this order:
1. karaoke effect - slide all way to left -70
2. remove vocalization
3. invert
while don't believe this is a universal fix, hey, it's a start. you probably have to play around with additional settings and/or split the track
What plugin did you use re: "Aliasing" . . . I just downloaded Audacity again (tried it a few years ago, but just kept freezing, etc) . . . need to wipe some vocs out. Also, do you know if it's possible to wipe out only a portion of the vocals???
Thanx!
Excellent song choice as well :3
which version do u have ? cuz I have the latest version of audacity but i don't have the karaoke option >
heey does this work on any song? because I'm trying to take the vocals off from a song and i did all the steps like you just did but there's still some sort of "Noticeable" vocals from the singer.
My version doesn't have it, is there another way it can be done?
i know how to do it now :) you have to...
1. split stereo track
there should be 2 stereo tracks now. one on top and one on the bottom
2. now highlight the bottom stereo track then go to "effect" and click "invert"
3. now on the grey square thing on the top stereo track, click the black down arrow on the right side and click "mono". do this on the bottom stereo track as well. lol
DONE!!!
background sound can still be heard slightly but it's alright enough... i suppose lol
Dude your automatically awesome to me, just for having a desktop pic of Rou :)
I get the same result whether I use this video's complicated process or just invert one channel. Regardless it just sounds distant, but the vocals are still there and the instrumental is dulled.
i have no analyzing in the effects category, what version did you use?
this karaoke tool is great but it doesn't completely removed the vocals, just made it more quiet, but i can still hear it (i tried this on Slayer - Dead Skin Mask)
I've done eveything you suggest, have all the plug ins, including Karaoke, however has not removed the vocals completely, help
Hi, I've tried to do what you show in this video, however note that the downloaded version of audacity does not have all the same options and what your using so I cant get 100% vocals of the song, can you please confirm what version of audacity your using, is it just the downloadable version or another. This is pretty urgent so anyone's help would be really great. Thanks
I love your background :3 Rou Reynolds
minimal vocal is there, still possible to remove more?
how to revmove instrument? Do you have one button like that? ty :)
where did you get the karaoke effect?
what version u use this audacity??
y i use Audacity 1.3 Beta don't have affecting or karaoke??? help please....
I do believe that this is a VST effect, where did you download it?
try this
click on amplify in effect menu and reduce it to negative i also tried that and it worked
best of luck
@LilTonyMrTN i already download audacity but when i click AFFECT, KARAOKE dont have...y???
what should i do????
The 'Karaoke' is not part of Audacity. It's called a plug-in and you need to download it.
