Indians reached burma after british colonization of burma in 18th century working as government servants and labourers most were from tamil nadu. Most emigrated after burmese independence and during military takeover. Some people remained there.

my parents also migrated from mandlay Myanmar in 1965 military coup... i wish to travel soon to visit our village shwebo there. how safe is it these days due to political situation? My grand father had migrated to myanmar and my father was born there and lived in mandlay til 1965.my parents also had 2 names one burmese and one indian. I am pure delhite though but yes we have effect of burmese culture in our food and living in general.

Deepanshu you are very humble . Apko kyo ye building same lag rahi hai because their architect style is same - Gothic , neogothic & neoclassical . In those three architect style all buildings of British Era in india are structured. Strand roads ' buildings are looking like writers building, cst station mumbai , highcourt etc.
My grandpa used to work in Burma during british period after India got independence he returned & settled in west bengal.

With the coming of the British many Indians moved to Burma. There were many Sikhs in the army who also worked in the police. Many married local women. My wife's grandfather (Nana) was one of them. I met his wife whom he brought to India when he moved back. So my wife is quarter Burmes !
I have been to Burma a few times. Rangoon still looks like the old Singapore that I saw in 1959 when I moved there . On the way we passed by Rangoon where the ship stopped for a day.
Unfortunately many Indians left Burma during anti Indian riots.
In Rangoon, opposite the old PMs office is a Sikh Gurdwara which still functions. Visit it if you have the time.
