Hi Peter! Been following the channel for a while, but this is my first comment. On Thursday I did a blind of Yellow Spot vs Redbreast 15. I have both bottles in my collection, but they are almost finished and I'm only going to replace one and look for a different profile for the other one. I prefer the Spot line over Redbreast, and Thursday was not different. Looking to get my hands on the Red Spot someday. Great video!
Thanks. In my opinion I think Blue Spot is better than Red Spot. I know everyone has different palates, but the higher proof Blue Spot goes a long way. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney Thanks! I'm quite partial to Madeira casks finish, and I like Blue Spot. Just haven't tried Red yet, but based on your suggestions I'll look around for some samples of both to compare, before I buy a bottle.
Absolutely wonderful "Bottle battle". I own both, enjoy both, but would reach for the Yellow Spot 9 times out of ten. The added ABV might have something to do with that as well as the additional finish in those Spanish Malaga casks you mentioned. A 3-way battle between these two and the Powers John's Lane would have been epic..!!! 🥃🥃🥃 I love the way you two bounce off each other.
Nice battle! Redbreast 12 is where I started about 1.5 years ago. My son gave me a pour and I said if I could find a bourbon that drank that smooth I would have a drink more often. Now a year and a half later I have 260 bottles and I’m okay with hazmat:) I saw Redbreast 12 at Costco the other day for 23.00 bucks on clearance. The yellow spot is my favorite of the spots! Cheers!
Whiskey is a rabbit hole you can go down and spend a ton of money before you even realize what happened. When you start out $25 sounds like a lot. Then the next thing you know you're spending $150 and looking at $300 bottles and thinking....I can probably get that. It's ridiculous. 😜

Great video! I'll have to do these head to head. I remember RB12 winning my Irish whisky blind tournament a while ago, but its been almost 2 years. Add it to the list of blinds to do!
Thanks. I think I still have a few Irish matchups in my sample pool. I keep adding matchups to the pool and it's looking overwhelming. I've got to limit how many I have and concentrate on the reviews.
Yellow spot has been one of my favorites over the years as I love that malaga cask influence in that bottle. You can't go wrong with the Redbreast 12 core range either. Both are great but I would take Yellow spot 12 over RB12 regular any day. FWIW, Malaga is a sweet fortified wine originating in the Spanish city of Malaga made from Pedro Ximenez and Moscatel grapes.
I enjoy both of them, I get a unique linseed oil flavor from the Yellow Spot. When the Yellow Spot was first released, I bought it at Shannon Airport in Ireland. A few weeks later it hit the shelves in the USA, and it was cheaper in the USA, than in Ireland.
Yellow spot is one of my favourite Midleton Distillery single pot stills. It just has a really interesting profile and that few more abv% of complexity. Redbreast 12 cask strength is truly excellent, but I wouldn’t sit sipping a CS all night long. Great blind taste!
Yellow Spot is definitely a bottle you can sip on more so than the RB12 CS. I like them both, but I think I would prefer 1 glass of the RB12 CS over 2 or more of the Yellow Spot.... But it would be close. Cheers!
Not a fair comparison. Yellow Spot is higher ABV and twice the price. Makes sense that MBF likes the 40% ABV Redbreast. You should cook with the sherry or wine that you like to drink!
So, this is the morale of the story-video : since I-o-v-e sister's comments ( I am a contrarian), i shall REVERSE ALL previous videos and buy the reverse . . . LOL (Kidd')
Laughed too hard at the zoomed in "What?" Love the interaction between you two!
And she was confident that it was on her left. Cheers!
Thanks! Glad we could make you laugh. We laugh at each other all the time! But a laugh filled with humorous love! Cheers!
I’m watching this on Saturday but I actually had small pours of Redbreast 21, Yellow, and Blue spots last night while watching a ballgame:)
I really enjoy the proof of the Blue Spot.

I cannot believe Peter let that Sherry comment pass MB! 😂
I know. I'm getting slow in my old age. I just couldn't get a response out fast enough by the time the moment passed.
I know!!! 😂
Another great video you guys are a fantastic team. I haven't had yellow spot But Redbreast is one of my Favs.
I think of all the spots I like the yellow best. Cheers!
Thank you!! We enjoy being together, so I’m glad that comes across in the videos. 😊
Give Yellow Spot a try. I bet you’ll like it! Cheers!

I'm still waiting for the CS John's Lane. Any chance you have had it yet or even seen it?
@@whiskeyisajourney Nothing here in the States. Last I heard from acquaintances in Europe is an October general release.
@@lyacoubian good to know.
@@whiskeyisajourneyI bought a 30ml sample here in Australia. It was beautiful.

Thank you for the Malaga information! Glad you enjoy both. I’m sure I will too very soon. Cheers!
2 of my favorite whiskies.
Like I said in the video...I would reach for either one.
Writer's Tears is the one Irish that i like their base offering. Probably better i don't love another style of whiskey.
Happy Birthday!
It gets expensive when you like everything. 😊
I love your content
Thanks! I'm enjoying the production aspect of it along with all the tasting 😜

Like I said in the video I like them both, but would reach for the Yellow Spot more. Strange it was less expensive in the US. 🤔
I am a fan of Redbreast. I get some Irish vanilla on my palate. I have not tried any of the Spots.
Because of all the different maturation casks used I think it would be worth trying if you get a chance.
@whiskeyisajourney - good to know. The Spots are on my radar, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.
