    ** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
    **A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.

Hi guys ! Whoa the collection of these whiskeys are the color of my country's flag (Mauritius island) !!!
Been watching these episodes since Daniel's advent calendar in 2016, at the time I was looking for how to nose whiskys videos and in the video that I found Daniel was explaining a nosing kit and realized that if this guy is explaining a nosing kit his not scared of sharing and boy have I not been wrong !!! To confirm all that in one of your most recent videos Daniel goes on to tell everyone to own what they are learning here and not to tell the source !!!!
If we the tribe are magnificent you guys are unbelievably magnificent !!!
    Keep up the greatness !!!
    Cheers

    Boys,
Expat in Japan. Been a novice whisky drinker forever, but now stepping up my game. Thanks! Formed a new whisky club in my neighborhood inspired by you - only 5 members now, but 3 are policemen. We started with 5 different Japanese whiskies you talked about. Now on to 5 good single malt scotches. Next to cheaper blends. Once a week ain't nearly enough, but good yet enough.

I think the highlight of this video was you two fighting over the Talisker 10 like it's unicorn tears when it's generally available at retailers with decent selections instead of being impossible to find. That should really tell a lot of viewers about the state of whisky. You can either travel to the ends of the earth and max out your cards on the secondary chasing the new sweet hotness or find something you enjoy that's readily available and perfectly enjoyable.

So good! "As long as you pour." Daniel, whenever you speak of the "whiskey merchants" way back when, I always think you should be starring in a Netflix time piece drama series as a cutthroat Whiskey Merchant. There you go, "The Whisk(e)y Merchant" starring Daniel Whittington...not bad, and Rex as your always drunk muscle, sometimes unreliable as he can be bribed for time...with whisky. Love Redbreast 12, have yet to try any of the Spots....nothing großer than a stinky burp. Cheers!

Redbreast 12 is easier to find and a bit cheaper than the Yellow Spot. The main difference is that while both have sherry and ex-bourbon cask matured spirit the Yellow Spot also has the Malaga wine matured casks. Oddly enough, the distillate from both comes from Middleton Distillery which is best known for being the makers of Jameson.

I am a new whiskey drinker and the only whiskey I have found that I like is the Glenfiddich 15 Solera vat reserve. Which sucks because that is a $60 bottle and I'm not rich. I am going to try monkey shoulder soon, but what other bottle should I try if I like fruity notes. I also hate the caramel, chocolate, and smokey note whiskey's. I have finally found a good whiskey channel with life and character. I love ur channel, keep up the great work.

Nick W Glenmorangie has citrus notes. It's not too spendy. Good entry whiskey. Try it, if you don't like it, pawn it off on friends. Speyburn 10 is another light, fruity whiskey for a pretty low price point.

Hello Daniel and Rex, the most magnificent bastards here,
Ever since my girlfriend's brother started collecting whisk(e)ys, Ive been trying out some as well. However, since all he had at that time was Glenlivet and Coal Ila, Ive since then primarily drank the Livet. However, I recently found your channel, making me want to try out some new things. Ive bought a Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold and together with a friend of mine we also started trying some Walkers. Now, after hearing Daniel talk about Dalmore, I decided to buy a 12 year old and oh my - that was different. It made me wonder if I have been really shallow (?) with my choices so far. The Dalmore did make me want to try even more, and Id love to try things that are different from the Livets. Where should I go next? Thank you in advance,
Loek (and a shoutout to Stan and Jirry)

Love this channel. Most other whiskey reviews on TH-cam are from stuffy, pretentious, old guys. You make whiskey videos fun, while still being (somewhat) informative, which is the way it should be. You've inspired me to try more whiskies, instead of defaulting to my usual Jameson. Keep it up. P.S. as a Canadian, I am also disappointed by most of our whiskies :(

I have been watching this channel seeing that bottle of resurgens rye over Daniels shoulder waiting for them to review it and the other american spirit whiskeys. I love their fiddler bourbon and it is a local distillery to me. I live 5 minutes from them. I am very interested in what they think about ASW distillery as a whole. I should just send some bottles and make Rex happy.

Great review guys - I am also a Daniel and am not a big Dan fan. Speaking of Dan’s, Daniel’s, and Danny’s, you should do a review of Garrison Brothers seeing that you’re also in TX. I haven’t found a bourbon that has characteristics like that one.

Been really curious about this one, it's at the local store for $100, but I'm torn between Yellow Spot and RB 12 Cask Strength for $80. I love all the Irishes I've had so far (RB12, GS, Teeling with Rum finish, all the Jamesons) but I'm reluctant to spent $100 on something I might not like too much.

Surprised you did not talk about how long the flavors stay in your mouth. Just spent 10 days in Ireland and I “sampled” both of these fine whiskies more than a few times. I loved both but noticed the flavor of the Redbreast 12 year leaves the tastebuds rather quickly. The Yellow Spot lingers in the mouth much longer. If you have a chance to try the Blue Spot, it last even longer. All great stuff!

The new Blue spot release isn’t out yet here in Ireland , you should review the Red spot. Pretty special whiskey. Also, you guys should get your hands on the powers johns lane which is also a 12 year old , and powers 3 swallows irish whiskey. All by IDL ( Jameson) they aren’t Bonders (blenders) like mitchels or redbreast . Although they are pot still whiskeys 👍🏽👍🏽

    So this just happened:
I am a newbie to the Vault and binge watching BOTH newer and older episodes. I just watched episode 25 - the first Green Spot. And thought to myself, "Self... I wonder what today's episode will feature???"
Guess just what went on my bucket list!?!

I wanted a glencairn glass so badly, but since I live in Brasil, it's really expensive. Eventually I'll buy one, but at the moment, It's just not an option.

You should find a little bit of peanut in both the brown spot and the limited edition...

  • @TheOriginalRaster

I think Rex should use this idea... Use the "multiple personalities" concept, so you can switch between various modes and we won't flip out. Evil Rex could then come and go, and we could say "no, bring back Nice Rex, I dislike Evil Rex" ... that might work better than Rex week. So I could lobby for sending Evil Rex off the plank at the top of the tower, but for Nicer Rex's sake we could hold off on completely ending Evil Rex ('cause they're all inside one person).

      Kyle Gruber
      jeez go for it
tiny problem though, is that from then on you won´t want to drink anything else ever again and with the 80 bucks pricetag it stands in comparison to a cocaine addiction jk

14 Carribean cask is what got me into scotch. Best believe they have a bottle. I've also had the 30 yr but macallan 25 definitely tops those 2

So i watched this review and afterwards I rewatched their greenspot video to see what notes were different between the two. I notice that the yellowspot video was almost exactly one year after the greenspot review and I couldn't help but notice what a difference a year makes. For instance i noticed that Rex forgot what what a haircut was and how grey he has gotten. I can only imagine how many years have been taken off his life due to dad jokes.
