I grew up in Springfield Oregon, I was there when Diane Downs murdered her children. My best friend was a nurse in the ER when Diane Downs came into the ER of the Springfield Oregon ER, when my friend was working as a nurse, who received her children. It was DEVASTATING. I heard my friend tell me, sobbing, as a fellow nurse, hearing her sobbing, telling me about those children.

It’s known as ‘duping delight’. It’s a subconscious response when the person has feelings of enjoyment from deceit and perceived successful manipulation over another person. Basically she’s relishing the fact that only she knows what happened and is in control of the interview, she believes she’s fooling the interviewer and ‘her audience’.

The car reenactment was crazy...most people who actually lived through a trauma like that would have a very difficult time reliving that experience but she's all giddy and concerned about her looks. It's bizarre and a true testament to her narcissism.

Going for a drive late at night isn’t as odd as they make it seem. I’ve taken my two kids for drives at 1 am when they just wouldn’t sleep it’s nice to take a calm and quiet drive and they usually fall asleep in the car. Now what IS odd is that she would stop for a man with her kids in the car. I was driving with my kids and a girl no older than 16 was trying to wave me down carrying a backpack. I called the police for her but didn’t even think of stopping. For all I know she could’ve had a gun or knife in her back pack or it could’ve been a set up for some guys hiding in bushes. There’s no way I’d stop for anyone.

I remember watching the Small Sacrifices movie when I was just a kid. I will never forget that courtroom re-enactment when Diane is jamming to the song Hungry Like a Wolf. She was playing that song on a cassette tape that night when she pulled over and killed her kids. If you haven’t read the book, it’s one of the best true crime books I’ve ever read.

A few years ago my son split his head (Small wound) open after accidentally bumping into a chest of drawers. I was on the verge of tears! This woman's children were shot; one dead and the other paralyzed. And she keeps laughing, smirking and talking about HERSELF! Words fail me

I've watched the movie several times. It's good. But the book goes into so much more detail.
Us kids in Springfield LIVED this tragedy. We were there in real time. I remember walking past the hospital and seeing her car with yellow police tape all around it. I was 11 at the time. We never played or rode our bikes down Old Mohawk Rd. again. We were absolutely TERRIFIED. And we grieved. We grieved for our friends and schoolmates. It affected us all.

@@yourmom6833 the chance is very slim if u look at the entire thing as a whole the evidence, her story changing, the similarities of her crime as downs, absence of proof to back her story up, absence of congruent body language and emotion, her diary note about doing something terrible, darren failing his polygraph, the blood spatter evidence, the staging of the scene, the strange wounds, the odd behavior. there is very little evidence that says she is innocent her supporters say stupid things like why call 911 if she wanted them dead, why did diane drive to the hospital? psychopathic parents have a need to play the hero because they know whats expected of them, and they have an inappropriate need to be in front of the cameras.. darlie in some ways is worse than downs because she never even admitted it
@@yourmom6833 the only time i tried to feel anything for darlie was a clip of her youngest and she was making baby noises for him and he was smiling.. but that doesn't mean anything.. she does her baby voice while talking about the murder..jeffrey dahmer the serial killer is on tape holding a kitten and kissing it.. the ability to mimic a human is not that difficult.. darlie's narcissism is painfully obvious..always playing the victim. i looked up 2 dozen real defensive wound photos for other cases and they look nothing like darlie's.. doctor wrote in the report she lost 100ml of blood which is less than a heavy menstrual cycle.. its not fatal.,. and supporters talk about the 1mm thing which is not true either..it was 2mm. i work with jewelry trust me 2mm is significant distance. it was difficult to judge how deep to cut herself and she hesitated.. none of her wounds matched wounds from her 2 babies. why did she talk about the finger prints while her babies are a few feet from her dying? why would she care to make a big show for cameras and people at the graves? why talk about these horrible things and smile? why was there no evidence of an intruder during such a violent struggle? why was there no dna found on the sock if the man wore it on his arm but then leaves the knife.. why no foot prints, no cuts? its rare for a killer to attack an adult victim with zero cuts to himself. she said she fought with him in the call, then later said she was sleeping then damon woke her up and she saw a man walking away, then she said she woke up felt pressure..why didn't she scream for darren when she sees a man in the house even if she didn't see the blood everywhere..also it was not pitch black the tv was on you'd see something if not the blood her child was lying dead facing up and how could she not see stab wounds all over the one that was still alive at the moment... why didn't she hold him as he died? why didn't darren go in the ambulence with darlie... why did she yell to darren the killer did all of it "deliberately" on the 911 call? why did she move things, take her top off then put it back on and why was the glass thing on top of the blood if the killer bumped it and why was it the only broken item when there were several things on the shelf (the glass was inside a holder not on the edge where it could be knocked off easily) how come no cuts or stab wounds were on her hands/wrists which is the more common defense wounds? how come the dog didn't bark his head off when the struggle was happening? dogs have excellent hearing. that would have woken darren up, not a glass breaking.. wives that are scared and ditzy like darlie surely would have yelled for their husband but she calls 911 first? how come neither darlie nor darren show any emotions like survivors guilt or grief? darlie was a light sleeper, but she doesn't wake up during any of this until she is cut and wakes up fighting (the infamous psychopathic hero card often times created by a psychopathic parent) gets tapped on the shoulder by damon (if it was her left shoulder facing toward the bloody scene which would be right in front of her...why would a sex offender kill the kids, then drag the knife across her neck differently than how the boys were stabbed then walk away? and if he tapped her on the right shoulder she would have been facing toward the couch that way she'd be easy to kill by the killer who already proved himself capable of killing...since the killer used her knife what did he use to cut the screen to get in? why were screen fibers found on the butter knife. i could go on and on... if she woke up how could she not know her kids were fatally injured.. sounds/smell of blood/gurgling noises/damon was reported to be moaning softly.. she in one of her versions she said she didn't know just saw a man and she followed him.. its more likely if she woke up she would feel pain on her arms, neck, see her baby pawing at her for help, see devon lying on his back with a huge knife wound to his chest (he was shirtless) and see a man and scream her head off for darren. but none of that happened according to her. the scene did not show anything what she claimed it to be. it told an opposite story...there is no logic for any of it. what mother would already be thinking of an arrest/evidence/finger prints while she claimed she didn't know if she was gonna die or live and her babies are dying... that would be the furthest thing from your mind, same as putting on a show for the world with interviews and acting all silly and cute at her own sons grave. She tries too hard to look like a good mother.. same as diane downs. I showed a clip of darlie to my dad and even muted it and he didn't know the story or a crime had even been committed and his first instinct was "she looks like she is lying" lol its cuz she is.. making all these excuses why she didn't show any emotion same as all psychopaths who are just not capable. they may feel some anxiety...not much else though. u have to understand psychology to fully grasp whats going on here. Its obvious to trained professionals. she did it...also if the killer wore darlie's sock on his hand and arm there'd be far more blood on it, and darlie said she saw the knife and picked it up placing it on the counter and never touched it again but there were knife edge shapes in her blood on the carpet meaning she held it long enough in one spot standing still and it dripped down created a knife edged blood stain on the carpet. some may argue well if she did it why bother mentioning finger prints and leave the sock when all she could have done is wiped the prints off and throw it outside or something why do extra things that don't add up.. my opinion is she got the sock originally to do exactly that but changed her mind and planted the sock instead or darren put the sock there. also a cop at the scene may have even planted it everyone suspected her immediately and wanted her to go down for it. there are several plausible possiblities why the sock was found. it wasn't 7 miles away it was just 75 feet away i believe. and no other DNA was found..only darlie's DNA and blood from the boys. I truly think she was wiping her prints from the knife using the sock but she did extra things to cause confusion (she herself mentioned evidence and prints on the 911 call so it was on her mind when it should not have been! her wound and her dying babies should have been stressful enough but psychopaths don't think normally. she is guilty as sin. Watch the docu CROCODILE TEARS WHEN MURDERS LIE TO CAMERAS..it will convince you. it made me think of darlie..its a must see. Her grief was absent when she gave that interview on the silly string funeral day.. she talks like they've been dead for years and it was only 7 days. even if she was not the most loving mother there would still be something instead of nothing. GUILTY...GUILTY...GUILTY.. forensic evidence alone is overwhelming.

Apparently the McCanns were falsely accused due to a mistake the investigators did, and a few years later the newspapers retracted, issued appology and paid damages for not corroborating the story before publishing.

OMG me, me , me to this day, this case still upsets me!! I was 7 when this happened & learned about it @ 13 when movie premiered. Horrible woman she is & if you watch her parole hearings, you will just still be completely blown away. Glad she is still in prison.

She really is a fascinating monster, totally egocentric and clueless in the way she expresses herself. It is easy to see that her emotional development stopped at adolescence. In no way does she ever acts like a mature adult, everything is about her and her only. Horrifying and fascinating.
I’m not so much ‘fascinated’ as I am wanting to understand..but then again, NOT wanting to understand, lest it’s ‘catchy’. But people -talking about regular folks- do have a tendency to rehash trauma to try and understand it, no matter how horrific. She’s cluelessness I have noted as well. I think this denotes as you said - some sort of developmental disorder, or genetic or physical trauma to the brain. It’s very scary.

I know people grieve differently. Some people hide genuine grief behind laughter. But at some point the grief will always show through, if the grief is genuine.
I have NEVER seen a video of this woman ever shedding a single tear, and there are lots of videos of her talking about the shooting. Her laughter and her calm demeanor seems consistent all throughout the years. No grief. No remorse. The woman is pure evil.
