- How to program the remote lock/unlock of your vehicle when you purchase a spare key.
This will save you great deal of money when purchasing a new key, no need for locksmith, computers or purchasing cables for the lock/unlock features.
Beware! You must have a "pre-cut" key blade in order to perform this DIY process. I highly recommend that you DON'T BUY a blank key online and try to get it cut by local Locksmith because most places don't want to cut a key they haven't sold, and they fear that some key blades made in China will have traces of steel that can damage their expensive cutters. 1010keys on eBay made and cut my keys just by sending a picture of your master key blade. Overall I found them to be much cheaper when the cost of blade cutting is added to any key purchase, and their work and 1 year warranty was a surprise..
I recommend them based on my great experience and simplicity of the process, however every case may be different so make the choice at your own risk. I'm not affiliated with or being paid by 1010Keys just trying to help all GX470 owners like me.

How to program a key remote on a GX470.
THIS MIGHT WORK ON OTHER YEARS AND 4RUNNER MODELS!
1. DRIVERS DOOR OPEN;
2. INSERT MASTER KEY AND REMOVE TWICE ENDING WITH THE KEY OUT;
3. CLOSE AND OPEN DRIVER'S DOOR 2X, ENDING WITH DOOR OPEN;
4. INSERT MASTER KEY AND REMOVE;
5. CLOSE AND OPEN DOOR 2X ENDING WITH DOOR OPEN AGAIN;
6. INSERT MASTER KEY ( DON NOT REMOVE);
7. SWITCH IGN TO ON POSITION AND BACK TO OFF AND REMOVE IT;
8. DOOR LOCKS WILL CYCLE ONCE TO CONFIRM IT ACCEPED OR TWICE THAT AN ERROR OCURRED, THEN REPEAT THE PROCEDURE;
9. PRESS AND HOLD LOCK AND UNLOCK BUTTONS FOR 1.5 SECONDS THEN PRESS AND HOLD LOCK BUTTON FOR A FULL TWO SECONDS AND RELEASE.
DOORS SHOULD LOCK AND UNLOCK TO CONFIRM OPERATION WORKED.
10. CLOSE DRIVER'S DOOR OR INSERT KEY ON THE IGNITION TO FINISH PROGRAMMING OR REPEAT FROM STEP 9 TO PROGRAM ANOTHER REMOTE.
UP TO 5 REMOTES CAN BE PROGRAMMED SO IF YOU GET AN ERROR (2 LOCK CYCLES AFTER PROPERLY CONCLUDING STEP 7) MOST LIKELY THIS COULD BE THE CAUSE.
THERE ARE WAYS TO ERASE ALL REMOTES AND START FRESH, I SAW INSTRUCTIONS ON THE NET BUT I'M NOT SURE THEY WORK.

Thanks it worked on my 04. I programed 2 keys the second one didn't want to work. On the last step I cycled the ignition on/off two times and removed the master key and it did work.
After 4 try's I got it..Thank you!!!
Skipped the 1010 instructions and went with yours. Worked great except I found I needed to press lock and unlock for just 1/2 second followed my an immediate press of the lock button like others have mentioned.

I've done two keys now using this video. For me what worked best was only pressing and holding the two buttons (lock and unlock) for about a half a second, release and wait a half a second, then press and hold the lock button for 2 seconds, and release. Thanks!

1/2 second worked for me , too after 2 failed attempts. The guy at Ace Hardware that programed the new key spent a half an hour with tech support trying to get it to work and couldn’t. We were just planning on using the new key as a spare because the buttons didn’t work. Now they do! Thanks!
Thanks it works! On my 2008 gx470, holding both lock and unlock for 1.5 sec and then the lock button for 2 sec didn’t work. I had to do a quick two button press follow by quick unlock press. Try this for keys that don’t seem to work

I followed the instructions from eBay lock smith but did not work. They have different instructions. Found you on TH-cam and work like a charm. However, it only seems to take two remote. Thank you so much for your awesome info video. I actually found error on the description that you wrote. Before put the key on On position, you forgot to list close the door. Your video has it. Much appreciated. The reason it only took two is likely to be that our vehicles can only take up to 5 keys, most likely you had 3 already in the memory leaving room for only 2 more. There's a way to erase all of them from the memory and only the master key will be stored, then you can add another 4.
@@CristianAPrimoATM I have to say that doesn't apply at least my GX. Perhaps depends on the year.. mine is 2006. I have one master factory key and lost two others. I ordered two remote from eBay seller. After program the two new keys for immobilizer and remote function, my existing key is no longer working. It still can start the engine but remote function is no longer working. My theory at this point is my 2006 only takes two the most. Anyway, you saved my day yesterday. Really appreciate your help.
Same procedure posted by Christian but the step 6 requires closing the door after inserting the key from watching the video. I am just reposting the same procedure for easy printout to the printer to take it with you.

the steps here worked on my 06, the one in the video was cycling twice at the end and not working

This procedure worked for me using the modification suggested by "Lowegy" in the comments:
"holding both lock and unlock for 1.5 sec and then the lock button for 2 sec didn’t work. I had to do a quick two button press follow by quick unlock press."

The link for 1010 keys in the video description takes me to their eBay store but the keys they sell for my 05’ gx470 say in the product description that I need to also purchase a programming device from them in order to program. Is this a new thing since the time this video was made or am I missing something?
During the step where you turn the key in the ignition to on and off:
- Do this ONCE to retain existing remotes programmed.
- Do this TWICE to ERASE all existing remotes programmed and ADD NEW remote.
- Do this THREE times to CHECK how many remotes are programmed to the vehicle.
- Do this FIVE times to ERASE all existing remotes programmed.

Thanks for your help! Worked for 2 keys I bought from 1010keys! On the second key I programmed for lock/unlock it took like 7 tries until it worked! I kept getting the double cycle error. Not sure what changed on the 7th try!

a locksmith had to change my original key program, but he had no key fobs with the buttons. Thus, I have a "master key" without any buttons. Will this work without a key fob with buttons?

The program of the key of my 2004 GX470 was behaving strangely. As soon as I replaced the the battery, the windows came down and it messed up the functions of my other key. I had to take the battery out so my other key will function properly. So I cannot program the key as instructed. Any suggestions?
I heard that on previous models (GX) this may not work as the 2005 has additional electronics (Bluetooth) and a more powerful engine with maybe a different MODULE.

Where do you recommend I buy a master key?
At the dealer if you lost your master key. Can't think of a different place right now. To program the remote and chip as far as I know you'll need the master key that is programmed in the car's computer to allow more keys to be added. You try to see if works by using the spare to program but you will still need the master key code # to make a master copy. That also can be found behind the door key cylinder somewhere from what I read online. If you want to get just another complete set of keys and have it cut as well go to 1010keys on eBay, I got mine that looks very close to the original and works great.

I recently purchased a 2006 GX470 and they said that the original owner lost both masters but had the valet key. But I’ll prob go back to the dealer to get that OEM Original Master and then come back to this video to reprogram the rest. TY so much
@@AlxValentino They might have to do all the programing as well. You'll be better of getting everything done at the dealer, if something goes wrong later on programming you are on your own again.
Ask them to clear all the old keys from the memory and re install those that you have. The vehicle only accepts about 5 keys in the memory and you don't know its past.
Later go to 1010Key, buy another key and program it your self so you dont have to go at the dealer again to get a complete new key made in case you loose one of them.

Same here. I was able to program the keys from his other video successfully but can’t program the remote. The doors won’t cycle after the step where you turn on/off the ignition and remove the key
I heard that If you have more then 5 keys programmed into the computer the system wont allow you to program it. Also make sure you have the master key that was registered as a Master key in the system.
I dont have any other suggestions as of now, if any you do succeed please let us know here. Appreciated.
