  • It has been known for a while that seaweed can have many beneficial effects on plants when applied as a foliar treatment. But what about the soil? Is it any good for enhancing soil conditions and building better soil microbiology? In this video I provide three key benefits that explain why seaweed might help you to improve and support the life in your soil, for better plants, crops and food.
Reference trial is: 'Impact of short-term application of seaweed fertilizer on bacterial diversity and community structure, soil nitrogen contents, and plant growth in maize rhizosphere soil'

Informative and entertaining video once again, thank you. I've not used seaweed per se, but have used kelp meal in brewing teas. (As recommended by growers with proven results.)
Congratulations on your first 100 channel subscribers, I am quite certain your channel will grow exponentially in the near future.
As a relative newcomer to gardening I've quickly learned that soil quality is very high priority alongside plant genetics.
Thank you, as always, for sharing your expertise.

We use seaweed based feeds all the time throughout the main growing season. They have a remarkable upward impact on the Brix levels found within our tomato crops.

Thanks Phil. And they are tasty tomatoes too. Do you have a favourite brand, form (liquid or granular product), or seaweed variety that you use?

@@Simonsoil Chase Organics for liquids and Scottish Kelp meal used as a pre-season dressing. These are applied across the whole production area. Liquids applied via a Dosatron unit.

@@philwells4341 Fantastic. I remember the Case Organics product from days gone by and it was always very good. Thank you for sharing Phil.
