Sariel: " time for all of you to receive some Devine retribution for all the chaos a certain majority of you have committed, not only that, but for all the ills that humans have suffered under all of you"
I would most definitely love to fight Sariel in a fan-made game as the Final Boss with this playing in the background. Its atmosphere of fighting someone who is overwhelmingly powerful, the guitar showing Sariel's strength and might, the choir telling Sariel's history as a former Angel of Heaven and the tempo giving you the adrenaline to battle one so seemingly impossible to bring to one's knees. The amount of spellcards you have to use against the Angel of Death, utilizing every skill you know to evade the surreal power of the most powerful being you've ever faced while having the highest amount of courage to defeat The Angel of Death, to cease the Revelations of Gensokyo's end. Your home is depending on you! Because its either you who emerges victorious, or it will be Now... Until The Moment You *DIE!*
I wanna make a fangame with this. Where Reimu, Marisa, Mokou, or Yukari set off to Makai in order to stop the end of Gensokyo or it will be gone forever.
Sariel isn't an Angel of Heaven, she's an Angel of Makai, a messenger and herald of the Goddess Shinki. Considering she (along with Konngara) are the first-ever final bosses in the Touhou franchise, and Reimu defeated her one-on-one, I'm pretty sure she's one of the *least* powerful characters in the series. At absolute best I can see her being a stage boss, if she can even manage that.
@@monsterclown4455 she might be, especially since it's implied that there was a significant passage of time between MS and EoSD. It's not an inconsistency if she isn't though, since Cirno is only a stage 2 boss in EoSD so it's not unreasonable to assume she wouldn't be that high on the pecking order for the previous game. A better comparison would be saying Remilia is stronger than Shinki, which I'm pretty sure is a true statement.
I've been waiting for something like this since I discovered this channel. death can wait I must listen to this first. Sariel is ready to bring divine punishment to the unfaithful in the name of her god, bring it on.
One epic slab of gothic rock. I haven't taken such a strong liking to a music piece any time recently save for my heavy favorite remix of shinki's theme. Shame there's no double thumbs up button.
Such a beautiful arrange, I love the combination of metal and orchestra as well as the choir in there! I'm curious whether you'd be willing to do an arrange of Swordsman of a Distant Star, the other final boss theme of HRtP?
At least I would know Gensokyo is real though, therefore the world may burn but Gensokyo would survive due to the barrier and other methods mainly knowing that magic was real would be enough for me and the Touhou project was real. there would be a mass exodus to Gensokyo which I doubt would be a good idea. I would love to know how the department of defense in various countries, would explain this to the public.
Excuse me for being crass, but I feel like Sariel is way overrated by people watching these videos. I've seen a lot of comments (and video descriptions) that treat her like a world-ending threat who's one of the most powerful villains in the setting, when absolutely no such indication has been given. If anything, Sariel would be one of the _weakest_ villains in Touhou considering she was defeated by Reimu one-on-one in the very first game and the latter didn't remotely imply that she was significantly more of a challenge than subsequent villains or even Konngara. And I find it even weirder that people apparently refer to Sariel as a fallen angel or "former Angel of Heaven" when once again, there's zero indication that she is. Sariel is fought in Makai, which isn't a realm of punishment or evil like hell is, but a realm created by Shinki along with all of its inhabitants, which more than likely includes Sariel (and reinforcing the idea that she is significantly inferior to Shinki and as such not particularly powerful compared to later villains). Just as Sariel is called an Angel of Death, Alice is referred to as a Maiden of Death in Mystic Square, in which she is also a resident of Makai. To me it seems more like Sariel is the equivalent of the book of Joshua's "Commander of the Lord's Army", or in this case, Shinki's.
I also encounter that situation quite a lot. From my subjective perspective, I guess they actually see Sariel in Touhou as related to Sariel in Christianity and Judaism because in the Touhou setting many of the characters are based on real-life myths including gods, so Sariel's case is no exception, it's just that Gnosticism doesn't exist in Touhou at present. As we know, in Touhou there exist three religions from Asia such as Shinto, Buddhism and Taoism and some other isms, but there does not exist a "Monotheistic" religion or Hinduism, according to I guess Touhou mainly revolves around China and Japan the most, not using much European stuff. Continuing on Sariel, in Touhou there only exists one of the archangels, Sariel, there is no Michael or Gabriel and such, although Sariel is roughly the same as Seraphim in Touhou, Seraphim being the highest of the levels of angels as well as closest to God. Sariel is seen in Makai, Makai in Touhou is generally Christian and Jewish as well as all of PC-98. Therefore, it is very likely that Shinki is really God the Father in PC-98 because Shinki is the creator of Makai and Makai has its own civilization, perhaps the landscape will be like "Zion". So it can be concluded that this hypothesis Sariel in Touhou is truly as powerful as many people see and takes on many sacred roles of God (Shinki). Anyway, Sariel's name has a meaning explained in the Wiki as well as the "Civilization of Magic" theme, it can be considered that Sariel has all the powers in Makai's civilization and all the roles in Makai, which is a puzzle. Sariel's name fits Sariel as well as being the leader of Makai's entire force. That is my subjective speculation so this information is not accurate but just a hypothesis, speculation and perspective because Sariel in Touhou currently does not have much information, I even think Touhou 1 is not Touhou HRtP is Touhou 2 (it's understandable in this speculation that Touhou 1 is Touhou 2, Touhou 1 "HRtP" is just a test project made public by Zun).
I too have made the comparison between Shinki and Yahweh before, but I made it in order to draw the complete opposite conclusion: That Touhou's equivalent of the Christian God is actually nothing special in her own setting, and may actually be the weakest full-fledged God to ever make an appearance in the series, simply due to the escalation in the power level of each successive main antagonist in the series (We know for a fact that Reimu, Marisa and the other protagonists of the series get significantly more powerful from one game to the next). There could be several in-universe reasons why the stand-in for the Abrahamic God ends up as basically just another villain of the week to be outlasted even by her own subordinate, but I believe the monotheistic nature of modern Abrahamism could in this context be a weakness rather than a strength: A God who used to be the one supreme being of their own mythology can be thought of as a big fish in a small pond who finds themselves wholly unprepared to be displaced into a world where other Gods and even mortals capable of defeating Gods are a dime a dozen. But even if you fully ignore the Windows era and its many beings whose power is many degrees above Shinki, Sariel is literally the first of the final bosses in the series and the only one who has an equal to be fought as an alternate final boss of the same game. Despite the presence of Christian imagery in the PC-98 era, we know this is at best loose inspiration and aesthetic rather than anything resembling a one-to-one correlation. Makai in particular is literally called the Demon Realm and the only other angel beside Sariel in the series is an unnamed midboss known as Matenshi (literally "Demon Angel") leaving us with the very real possibility that angels in Touhou are a type of demons. I do believe that Sariel's position in Makai is fairly high relatively speaking and her power is roughly equal to that of Konngara, who appears to be a Kishin and at least comparable to the other Big Four of the Mountain, and quite interestingly, I saw people before comparing Konngara to Satan, which doesn't hold up even by your logic. And this is where we get to the real reason I made my original comment. Most of the time, when I see people hyping up Sariel, I also see them treat her as a being of unfathomable evil, a fallen angel who could lay waste to all of Gensokyo should she ever return, which simultaneously goes hand in hand with the idea that she is far more powerful than she has any right to be while also destroying the theological foundation for why people like you say she is. I consider Sariel to be a starter villain who is both Reimu's first real challenge (aside from Konngara) and the first herald of Shinki's influence in the background along with her subordinates Yuugen and Eris (who, by the way, is named after a Greek Goddess, as another wrench in the framework of Sariel and Shinki being directly analogous to Abrahamic figures). As mentioned before, I also consider Sariel to be similar in concept to the "Captain of the Lord's Army" mentioned in the book of Joshua, and I have evidence to back this up: Both of Sariel's theme songs have alternate translation into English. "Now, Until The Moment You Die" can also be translated as "Now Die For The Debts You Have Accumulated" and "Civilization of Magic" can be translated as "Let Us Both Die Together". Sariel doesn't have this theme because she has the power of Makai's civilization, she has it because she is the first *defender* of Makai's civilization, and even against a beginner Miko right at the very start of her career, she was willing to defend it with her own life.
@@Ponera-Sama God the Father in Gnosticism is described as something truly omnipotent, so if Shinki is God the Father then is Shinki really as powerful as "omnipotent"? I believe that Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, and Shintoism have different systems in Windows and PC-98, but since it's Touhou, it follows the Touhou system. It is known that gods need faith to become stronger, so is Shinki really "very strong" as "Omnipotent"? Christianity is the religion with the most followers in real life.
