- The world's biggest TH-camr MrBeast and two BBC presenters have been used in deepfake videos to scam unsuspecting people online.
Deepfakes use artificial intelligence (AI) to make a video of someone by manipulating their face or body.
One such video appeared on TikTok this week, claiming to be MrBeast offering people new iPhones for $2 (£1.65).
Meanwhile, likenesses of BBC stars Matthew Amroliwala and Sally Bundock were used to promote a known scam.

She's handling it well. I'd be furious, personally.
And how would you deal with your fury?
Apart from making a complaint to the hosting platform.
There again said hosting may decide the fake is real and it's "you" who's the "fake" and is being used to create chaos.
It, as the lady remarked, is going to get worse and who knows what will happen.
Imagine if governments produced fake footage of political opponents threatening an insurrection.
Precisely.
everyone has differences in emotional maturity.
besides, being a public figure comes with certain factors that change parts of ones life, having people look at and question you being among those things.
Imagine being framed for crime you didn’t do by AI or deepfake technology. 😳
Deepfake tech should never have been made. It will be perfected, and it will cause innocent people to be jailed... there was no good outcome for this tech. Anyone sensible should be worried about how accessible their pics are. Should read/watch deadmans wonderland manga/anime... deepfake tech is literally the reason the mc is blamed and jailed for butchering his classmates.
What like Trump.
@@IsclachauOr Hunter Biden?
@@NanciesArt11 The FBI have his laptop so will be used by them to persuade policy or to convict if his Old man doesn’t see the same way🤔
@@IsclachauTrump did everything he's been accused of though
That is absolutely mindblowing, what a scary use of AI
Yeah but I also thought it was a little funny. Iv got to deduct points for them wasting time making a fake video of her. When will AI be used for comedy? Bring back a few dead greats or something.
This tech was never a good idea, deepfakes and ai will likely end up being used to pin crimes on innocent people once perfected... and it will be at some point.
@@cole0889 i won't be surprised if there is. Theres a TH-cam channel that i really enjoy that uses AI to create fake news report of an alternate world. So I'll bet someone is already trying to use it to do comedy
@@cole0889well it obviously will. But this is talking about the worry of deepfake videos in the future which is a huge concern mate
"british residents no longer need to work" is the worst scam line I ever heard haha
Indeed. I saw this ad on Instagram and burst out laughing. Shouldn't laugh, but you'd have to be a fool to fall for it.
I see these ads here in Canada, too. My husband keeps showing me these 😂
Yeah, whats insane is that apparently enough people fall for such an obvious deception that its profitable, over the last month i haven been getting more more of these scam ads here on youtube, in the past i cant remember it ever being this bad and frequent.
I'm glad the media are reporting on this issue. It needs to be continually told about so the unknowing public don't get fooled
For myself most of these scams are amazingly obvious but can see how there's people who can fall victims
You are watching the BBC. The single most teller of fake news there has been in the UK for years now.
Yet the media is the biggest scam ever
Media Studies eventually became an extremely important tool for self defence.
If you're that naive, you probably should get off the Internet
People need to look after themselves, not have the news tell them everything to fear, what to do and what to believe
Yes, the people should be informed about this tech; but in that case they all must assume that all video is fake until proven real. And that's on top of the already prevalent distrust in the news.
The other side of this is using it to prejudice people by mocking up videos of public figures saying things that would tarnish their rep. It's not quite as easy as putting out a press release later telling people it was all fake. If people thought it were genuine to begin with, the damage is done. The feelings and associations that content spawned are in the memory bank forever. Just finding out it was wrong later, doesn't completely overwrite those associations. This is the essence of the phrase first impressions last.
it's like that saying about first impressions. Even if they're way off they still stick hard to the old noodle. We basically need a law that requires content to be watermarked, but it will be almost impossible to police that.
Solution:
What I think could help is if with each ABC, BBC, RT clip (or any other media), there will be in the bottom corner of the screen a special semi-transparent code from which you can know the exact date to a second, channel/creator, etc. and when you put this code into a search engine, you will be able to find an archive of the original if you find the information you are looking at as possible fake. Of course, this would do nothing against government-supported alteration of history in which case also the original archive will be altered if new additions will not be constantly copied by an independent pro-democratic organization. Feel free to offer a better solution against deep fakes.
So, the problem is it's not illegal. So, in the future, it might be a crime to make an AI video of someone without their permission....
You know… we were warned about this, but apparently the smartest people in the world are too stupid to see where this is going.
Thank you for reporting what others ignore.
Solution: CRITICAL THINKING
OH YES !!!! 👍
You’re about a year late. Been reporting them to google constantly when they show up but it doesn’t seem like any action has been taken - or maybe there’s too many to filter through.
Yes, it's been a great problem plaguing this platform, and Google is only worried about revenue and features that nobody asked for. If Google wanted, they could use AI to take down those videos, but they don't want to "hurt" their advertisers...
Better late than never
@@wildberrycrush3901 I know. Just trying to highlight it’s been going on for a while. It really scared me at first- they started appearing on videos for me in October/November of last year
@@wildberrycrush3901Not an argument
scary indeed, we regularly stop this type of content on our platform. Should we add more restrictions?
What a time to be alive!
2 minutes paper
I remember the first robot that was used to read the news. It was called Trevor McDonald.
The elon musk one links you to a page to download a trading app that is a totally different name than the one musk mentions in the video....scammers slipped there.
If you find a penny and put it in your pocket You'll still have a penny in your pocket in the morning.
Saying I "X'd" just ain't workin' for me.
Would be nice if original content producers would sign their content and platforms exposed tools to check each keyframe for non-textual content. We're 20 years into the information age, practically everything has been digitized, Cryptography's been around for longer, and impersonation is still a thing.
how do you think ?? It's almost like AI is something the world is not ready for
plot twist: this video is fake
Well it is the BBC after all.
Yawn. This is how they are going to discredit any video evidence that incriminates anyone in a privileged position. Keep up at the back..
How about we talk about the MrBeast comment scams, they’re literally flooding social media, once one MrBeast scammer comments on a video, thousands of them appear across all kinds of videos, even videos with small audience views cannot stop this.
bbc has been at this since babbage and turing
This is very alarming
The technology is out there and it cannot be banned or limited. The only thing we can do is become accustomed to these scams and learn to avoid them.
These type of videos are constant in TH-cam ads, google should be held accountible
This is just a little taste of what's coming. Here's the thing, the technology that launched this AI boom was invented in 2017. It's called the Transformer Model. But it pretty much lay dormant until 2020, and it's only been widely available to the public for about a year and half. So in basically just about a couple years, we already have shit like these deep fakes. We're basically talking about AOL dial up AI at this point. Life will be unrecognizable in just a couple years.
Tell me people couldn't see coming down the pike with AI? I mean it isn't called "Artificial" intelligence for nothing!
I'm weary of anything that comes out the mouth of a bbc reporter at the best of times so worrying about wether or not it's AI is somewhat a moot point. It's like saying watch out there's a tiger disguised as a lion going around attacking people.
It's "wary", not "weary".

0:03 I like the way she said "boom" with a little wiggle 😄
2:15 X'd Really can't see that name catching on.
Its not just Mr. Beast. Elon Musk, Martin Lewis...but both looked so fake
The scam video has been spammed all over TH-cam and I have given up reporting it to TH-cam as it just keeps appearing.
Its easy, stop going on Facebook-meta, stop going on wechat, whats app, instagrame, Twitter, ect, stop opeing emails, stop answering letters, phone calls ect. Governments and Media companys will soon stop it then, they will hold emergency session of parliament and actually do something to protect people.
My dad was born in 1926. He always said, "don't believe what you see on TV."
Wise man
I remember watching TH-cam like a few week ago. And I got a ad which tries to copy the BBC news.
Luckily I already know that was a scam
You are correct, the BBC is a scam.

deep fake : MrLeast.

For obvious reasons there will never be any AI frauds in the nature town of Chillingbourne. 🚫🤖🚫
Why did you disable comments on your videos on Russell Brand?
I just saw 2 back to back ad about this app on Facebook. Facebook DID NOT blocked these ads. Great way to mislead
Never invest in anything that mentions "Elon Musk".
Time for lawsuits against TH-cam for allowing all these ads. Irresponsible for them to profit off of scams.
Be smart , ignore every add, it;s that easy.
Media Studies eventually became an extremely important tool for self defence.
Doesn't sound human at all. The real MrBeast is the one you should be investigating.
Really scary😨
I wonder how many people have already scammed on facebook then.
Anyone who sees an advert claiming they don’t need to work or all their money worries are over and BELIEVES it, in my mind they deserve to lose their money because the scam is playing to greed and laziness 😮🇬🇧🌈🇺🇦🙏♥️👍
The old saying - don't believe anything unless you see it for your own eyes. Simple things do work. Don't over complicate things. I saw this video a while back and I laughed. If you believed that well I'm not saying anymore.
The old saying is redundant. Have you ever seen an atom with your own eyes? No? Then you should be skeptical that atoms exist.
@@CatsMeowPaw ok I should of just said my dad who is no longer here used to say.
The programmers based their entire premise for AI on copyright theft
so sue the programmers who actually did conspire with software producers
to steal copyrighted materials using AI software.
This isn't conspiracy theory. This is conspiracy fact.
This timeline is crazy. What is even real anymore?
Anyone who buys from social media adverts want their heads examining.
Now that's become a reason for politicians also if they said something wrong and blame AI for manipulating things in case 🙄🤨
And equally, the other way around, mocking stuff up to tarnish the rep of individuals/organisations. Putting out a release later saying it was fake doesn't undo the damage.

8 trillion dollars and they complain about the NHS.
"Hello, everyone. I'm Elon Musk." That alone is already a red flag. Who doesn't know the guy.
AI like this must not go into the hands of the wider population it is to powerful, and I will takes is one disgruntled person to ruin someone’s life or business or spread misinformation AI will only get stronger and more convincing. If it’s tricking people now imagine in the next five years, how strong it will become.
Those deepfake videos look like they have semi-facial paralysis coming and going every second.
No they haven't...I am constantly getting the same add!!! I report it but Meta do nothing!
the real mystery is people that fall for it
British people no longer will need to work! If you believe that....
quite obvious to spot a fake 1 the videos are always in like 480p and 2nd the person talking never stops to take a breath
The BBC should sue these media companys for copyright and for damages.
You should amend video title, it reads like Mr Beast approved use of its name
Out Laws must be adapted to AI and theae 21st Century criminals.
Their needs to be severe penalties applied to these scammers both Civil snd Criminal voth financial and personal freedoms with lengthy prison terms applied.
Included must be the platforms receiving advertising revenue from the scams making them liable, thus unprofitable affecting, their bottom line and reoutations. Yes TH-cam!
Just make it illegal
Not to be stupid or something but MrBeast is kinda known for giving away lots and lots of money to random people... So its kinda a open goal for scammers to take advantage of this. Its kinda weird when you see the real MrBeast give away thousands if not millions but then you fall for a scammer trap thinking its the real him. its almost impossible to know...
The words didn’t match the lips.
It will require people to question the authenticity of everything, to engage their critical thinking skills, those who lack that ability are distinctly disadvantaged in the modern world
I see these ads on a daily basis on f.b. If facebooks platform, they need to take responsibility for it
I dont even know if this actual video BBC have just posted is real. I reckon its fake
It's fake. The mouth is not syncing up to her voice that much.
there was nothing about beast in this video wtf
They are very shrewd people behind it!!
There's lots of different ways that this can be interpreted!!
It would be good if it's "traced"!!
The "targets" are various here!! It's not as simple as it "looks"!!
Please inform your embassy as soon as possible or any other institute for helping me here in Pakistani punjab
Lmao
This form of AI is cheap and nasty and should never be allowed to make its mark on the world, what the hell are computer programmers thinking of...Perpetrators should be heavily fined not told to take it off air. To me these people are just not good or clever enough to be successful the honest & hard way. "This is just the Beginning" Cheers...Slava Ukraine.
The deceivers have been deceived by another deceiver
Cool. Now do another story about BBC Studios use of AI and their produced video of Kate Middleton. 🤔
Black mirror checks out
How do we know that Stephanie isn't AI 🤔
This add has been showing on TH-cam for months. How did BBC not know this?
And these AI fake scams etc will get even more convincing.

Oh don't get me started with him.
