Diana is one of the best singers of this new generation. I love to hear her sing.
I agree. ❤️
She is the best female singer!
@@VocalSplendorStudios turn on english subtitles please.

She is 17, but going to turn 18 in last of this May.
The thing is, that this song is extremely emotionally charged. The author, Vladimir Vysotsky was a legendary theatrical and cinema actor in Russia. But he was also madly popular for his own songs performed with the guitar. Simple musically, but extremely meaningful as to the verses. One may say, that Vladimir was expressing the collective soul of the Russian people, he was one of such humans. He died very early, at the age of 42. This song is an allegory of Vysotsky way of life - he was in a hurry to live. His life was full of very intensive theatrical roles, concerts, performances, travels. Unfortunately Vladimir was addicted to drugs. The song reflects this - the author whips the horses sitting in a cart running on the edge to the abyss. He whips them, while begging them to run slower. So he can't but rushing his life to the end. That's the essence. Thus Diana tried to pick up a song of a man who had been older than her by the whole life. Here in this video she says that everyone was talking her out of performing this song. But she tried and succeeded.
Volodia's "Horses" is one of those songs that are practically untouchable. The song IS Volodia burning the candle at both ends with drink, fast living, art, love, politics, frustration with the lack of freedom, but also - as you say - there's this Russian fatalism in it, something that breaks your heart.
I still agree with Diana's teacher and others, who thought she reached for this song too soon. She may be an old soul, but she is not a wreck of a human being staring into the abyss. I have heard a somewhat more recent rendition of "Horses," where I thought Diana's interpretation was more nuanced, where the emotions rang truer. That was after she had lost both her father and her teacher, and had obviously gone through much grief. Having said that, if anyone ever does this song justice, it will be Diana. She is phenomenal.
Your comment makes the song more poignant...thank you.
@@Malcriada115 I couldn't disagree more. If she didn't actually LIVE that piece to its dregs, it didn't happen at all!!!
@@encrypter46 Remember when Diana sang "Tomorrow Is a Lie"? You would say that she lived the song, wouldn't you? Igor Krutoy remarked that she did a very emotional rendition and interpreted the song as a 14-year-old could and would. It's the same story with "Horses". Nothing against Diana, she's a gem. But when an artist has actually lived (not imagined living) something in real life - you can tell the difference. When Lara Fabian sings "Je suis malade," you know she's been there. Volodia sings his life and his impending demise. That's why the song is so untouchable. Diana will give us that kind of emotion when her time comes.
@@Malcriada115 As a 75 year old, she totally convinced me. If that makes me both old AND gullible, I'll take it!!!

Thank you so much for the wonderful and intelligent reaction, the feeling of the music, the understanding and the lyrics.
I fully agree with your reasoning about Diana's voice and stage presence, her immersion in music, song and lyrics.
Indeed, there is a feeling that such a young and beautiful girl has an ancient soul. You put it beautifully, like a Siberian shaman. After all, Diana comes from Primorye, Eastern Siberia.
It's not just singing and artistry. After all, this is a very difficult song to perform by any artist, especially a 17-year-old girl.
Deep lyrics about the premonition of the end and the inability to stop the running of the horses-time, the desire to slow down and have time to finish the song-to finish something important that you started...
In Russia, a special attitude to this song and to its author, actor, poet and bard Vladimir Vysotsky.
Diana very boldly took up the difficult and dramatic material and sang the song strongly, soulfully, and with longing and with anguish at the same time. And, as always, in his own way.
Deep interpretation and stunning performance of a dramatic song masterpiece!
The song is nothing to do with horses in reality - the horses are being used as a metaphor for life. The author of the song is begging the horses to slow down (he is aware he is approaching death), but, at the same time he is whipping them along (his chaotic lifestyle) - he knows that his lifestyle is taking him to an early death, however, he is unable to change it.....the composer of the song, Vladimir Vysotsky, was an alcoholic & drug addict and died in 1980 at the age of 42. This song MUST be seen as Diana's masterpiece. She makes me cry.
Thank you. I knew I was missing something. I will need to listen again keeping in mind this background.

Hi! Thank you for your reaction! The song is really very hard. It's very metaphorical. The horses are meaning life time, which is running so fast to finish all important stuff. It was written by Vladimir Visotskiy after he had clinic death. He was very famous Russian singer, poet, actor. But unfortunately he was drag addicted.
And she presents new cover to song " Rise like a Phoenix" a few days ago. Very, very interesting.
Thanks for the analysis! DIANA very accurately conveyed the meaning of this song! Has brought its essence to the heart!
The man who wrote this song was a hugely popular songwriter/singer and actor in the USSR. Unfortunately, he died aged just 40 so this song is about death and facing the unknown after death. So it takes someone who is very strong as a vocalist and also a great actor. That's why it's not very likely a teenager can do it. But Diana is super talented and she is an old soul, very mature for her age.

Super Diana!!! Awesome!!!
Great reaction to what I consider her greatest performance so far. Not her most popular song because people gravitate to happy and light K-pop ... not sad, emotionally charged songs. But, they sure are missing out. Diana's focus, concentration, and absorption of character at that age is something to behold.
I could feel your enjoyment. I love the way they filmed her performance going from color to B&W and back to color at the end.

I don't speak Russian, but I know poetry, studied literature. This song is not about nature or horses. It's about facing imminent death, and feeling that you haven't finished living yet. The horses and the storm are metaphorical. They are rushing the singer toward his/her death. He is living on the brink between life & death, and trying to stretch the moments out "I don't have time to finish my life or my song," he cries, "but i will try to sing one more verse before I die." This is why the coach told her she is too young for this song, but clearly, as you say, she is an old soul. The teacher was wrong. Her tears prove that she totally gets it. What a wonderful talent! What an extraordinary girl!
Thank you for this explanation. Diana is a special talent. So deep for a young singer.
@@VocalSplendorStudios The Russian and English language and culture are so different, It's easy to miss nuances and subtleties. I find myself often doing research to fully understand some of Diana's songs/performances. I wonder if she knows she's an educator and cultural ambassador as well as a vocalist.
Thank you so much Ms Valerie for reacting to this talented young lady. This interpretation shakes me to the core, she is so young to understand the emotions one could have at life's end... but she conveys them exquisitely.

I cried like a baby listening to this.
This is a very complex, far from teenage song, replete with allegories (horses represent life, carrying the rider to its imminent end ) emotionally costly, written by a very beloved and popular (in the USSR,and now in Russia), at one time, the bard actor and composer Vladimir Vysotsky, his songs were tried by many singers and very famous, but it came out far from the best way, Diana in her 17 years coped 100% - BRAVO, the best performance of all who tried!!! To get to the meaning of this song one has to know the biography of it's author and performer Vladimir Vysotskiy, the famous bard of the Soviet music underground, who died very early.
The main metaphor in this song - a carriage drawn by the unruly horses - says about the passage of years of our lives.

Wow, Vladimir Vysotsky song. ^___^
You should see how many Polish versions of this song have been created :)
👉 That song is a tragic-philosophical song, one of Vysotsky's most intimate songs. : Horses are a symbol of the capers and the speed of life. The hero of the song drives horses along a cliff over an abyss through wind and fog. He feels that the end is near and asks the horses not to obey the whip and to gallop 'a little slower'. He dreams of standing on the sidelines for a moment to water the horses. He hasn't had time to live and can't even finish his song. 🌼🇩🇪
👉 Who was the songwriter?
Vladimir Semjonovich Vysotsky (1938-1980) was a Russian poet, actor and singer, inconvenient for the state but the people loved him. In his songs he sang about topics that officially did not exist in the Soviet Union: prostitution, crime, anti-Semitism. He is still known and popular today in Russia, where he is considered the greatest songwriter of the 20th century. He always played his songs on a 7-string guitar.
Vysotsky died in 1980. His funeral took place during the Moscow Olympics. The Soviet media did not mention his death. But the news spread like wildfire, and the funeral turned into the largest non-state demonstration Moscow had ever seen.
In a 2018 survey of the most important personalities in Russia of the 20th century, Vysotsky came in second behind Yuri Gagarin. The asteroid of the outer main belt (2374, Vladvysotskij) was named after him. (www. helped) Listen to him: th-cam.com/video/vA0aWBGqTR4/w-d-xo.html 🌼🇩🇪

This is a cover of a song of Vladimir Vysotsky, a famous poet, song writer and singer in Soviet Union. His songs were kind of underground songs because the Soviet government did not support him in any way, and he had not too much opportunities to perform his music in public for big auditories due to the lyrics of his poetry. He was born in 1938 and he died at the age of 42 years in 1980...The life is uncontrollable like "Capricious horses", which do not listen to your whip, the life develops chaos like, one even does not have time to finish the song... , but everyone comes in time to visit the God... anyway "I'll stay for a little while more on the edge..."
Thank you for explaining this backstory to me and others who would like to learn more.
This is the original song. vladimir vysotsky th-cam.com/video/yt9Aio4FkA4/w-d-xo.html the horses are a metaphor for his life it goes to fast
The auther Vidozcky died when he was about 42. He had drug problems and felt that he was going to die. Therefore he asked the horses to slow down. It seems that the horses represent his pain, his suffering. So he was asking for more time to complete his song, before he falls from the edge of the mountain. Before he dies. That is my understanding.

The queen of melancholy meets the king of melancholy...she does it again, emotion transfer successful.
There’s a precipice beside me. On the brink of it I’m driving
In a sleigh that’s pulled by horses - I am whipping, I am lashing;
I drink mist and gulp the currents - hard against the wind I’m striving
And enjoy a nasty feeling: “There’s my end where I am dashing!”
Don’t you fly so fast, my horses, slow - to a trot not so brisk!
Don’t concede to the whip, to the thong!
But my horses are so wayward, being so hard to please,
Leaving me no time for a life, for a song...
I will let horses drink, I will die in a wink,
So before I might sink Let me sing On the brink...
I will perish: like a feather off the hand I will be blown,
In the sleigh my steeds will drag me on a bleak and cold morning...
Don’t you run so fast, my horses, slow down, make it slow!
To my last resort don’t hurry, please, prolong the final journey!
You are never late arriving if you visit the Almighty,
Why, then, are the angels singing with their voices, vexed and frightful?
Or, perhaps, it is the harness bells so deep in sobbing drown,
Or, perhaps, it’s me who’s begging flying horses to slow down?
Don’t you fly so fast, my horses, slow - to a trot not so brisk!
Don’t concede to the whip, to the thong!
But my horses are so wayward, being so hard to please,
Leaving me no time for a life, for a song...
I will let horses drink, I will die in a wink,
So before I might sink Let me sing On the brink...

This is very sad song... smiling doesn't really work for the song... maybe its cultural thing...
It must be. Other people have commented about that. But in truth, the translation was still difficult for me to figure out. I know it is sad but the meaning was somewhat obscure.
Please hear Lucy Thomas sing Over The Rainbow. Her cover is amazing.
@@igorpiterskov1834 OK, in this day and age you can't be sure in anything but... that would be a pretty weird name for a teenage girl
@@anton7354 If he thinks like a girl, if he feels like a girl may be he is a girl.
@@igorpiterskov1834 This was unnecessary deep, I guess. But OK, point taken.
I agree. As an American, the translation was not good and many Russians have criticized me for that. I've started studying Russian but it is very hard.
This perfomance didn't appear to connect with the reactor emotionally.
