Yess. Everyone is saying it has villain vibes but I think it's more of a fallen hero who's trying to convince themselves to go against his friends who betrayed him.

This version like the exact moment when a character makes the decision to become a villain, due to feeling rejected by the world and being all alone. The original sounds like a reprise, where the hero is trying to reach out and make them change their ways....only for the villain to respond with hatred and rage.

The original sounds like the beginning or the peak of a villain arc. This sounds like the aftermath or the latter part of the arc; where they're pondering to themselves "Is this worth it? Even if it isn't, what is done can't be undone... all I can do is move forward." and so they desperately attempt to justify their actions to help them cope with the internal guilt of their actions.
The parts where he raises his voice sounds like the villain yelling at themselves to insist that they shouldn't feel any remorse and they have to just keep pushing.

Just when I thought Killer In The Mirror was perfect how it is, they go and make another version that's just as good if not better. The song was already emotional but this takes that to a great new level.

As much as I love the vocals, the first 7 seconds are my favorite part, both because it sounds way better than the sensory overload I get when listening to the original and because it sets the mood for everything to come. Also it just sounds so good on it's own.

The mix of fealing this can cause is amazing
The original sounds aggressive, painful and spiteful. This version feels like if midnight was a story, even after they've gone through triumph and healing in songs like "Stitch Me Up" the final chapter of Midnight starts with a sad reminder of where it all started. The original sounds angry and betrayed, this version sounds disappointed and tired.
