9:20 regarding those trees, there was a huge storm in November 2004 with 230km/h winds followed by forest fires in 2005. Due to strict laws in Slovakia, local authorities were not allowed to remove those fallen trees from the mountains. These trees ended up being eaten by insects which wasn't an issue until those insects started attacking healthy trees. The national park is still recovering from these events but it is looking a lot better today than than it did 10 - 15 years ago :)
Thanks for taking the time to explain! :) I was really surprised to see them all through the valley. I was also just reading about the bark beetles that are a big problem for spruce forests in Czechia - I'm guessing it was the same insect affecting those trees...
