Thanks for sharing an update, it’s nice to see how these things hold up after years of use! Out of curiosity, have you had any issues with “sound leak” while wearing these with your Bose A20s? Do the A20 ear cups do well with the bayonets? I’m in the market for some new sunglasses, but have only ever used thin wire style temples

I just bought a 2nd pair (backup) of RE, but this time I purchased the Aviators - Military Special Edition. I send them off to get prescription lenses, and get Transitions. They are fantastic, and I will never get anything else. Review was spot-on. One comment I will make, I have to periodically have my nose pads adjusted by the local eyecare store, but it's because I am wearing a climbing helmet for my job a lot and my frames take a bit of a beating. A bit expensive, but definitely worth it!

Cant believe it has been 3 years.
I watched your first video on RE and that convince to just get a pair, and tbh it was the best pair of sunglass i have ever own. Being a cab driver in sunny tropical Kuala Lumpur, the RE aviator does help a lot to reduce eye fatigue. Though i rotated my sunglasses, the RE will always have the most amount of wear time whenever its in rotation and whenever i wore the other pair from a different brand,i would miss it.
Thanks for your review and i hope you would have a great and continous partnership with RE and come up with more reviews video in the future

A little tip -- detach the nose pads and dunk in a little cup of vinegar for about 15 minutes, then scrub clean. They should look much better, as long as the yellowing hasn't penetrated well below the surface.

Great job Michael! I've been wearing Ray-Bans for years now. That being said, I had a several pairs of Randolphs (didn't know what I had) from when I was in the Army. Originally, I had prescription lenses, but after getting contacts, I wore them with the original lenses. Time passed and I began riding a motorcycle and opted for more wrap around shades. Fast forward to today after seeing a number of ads and articles about Randolphs and feeling nostalgic as I near my 69th trip around the sun, I dug my old Randolphs out of a drawer and fell in love with them again. Your points about Randolphs vs Ray-Ban are spot on. While I still like my Ray-Bans, they really can't hold a candle to the quality of the Randolphs. Plus, as you commented, they're made in the U.S. Scoreboard!!!

My pleasure Michael! At the moment, no, I don’t plan on buying anymore Randolphs. With those 2 pair, 3 other Ray-Bans, and several pair of Wiley-Xs, I’m pretty well served. That being said, I watched your video on Randolph’s "Tune-Up Service," I’ll be taking advantage of that service. Both of my pairs are 25-30 years old.

I wear prescriptions, and have both Randolph and AO in prescription sunglass lenses. They are both great and extremely similar in design. The RE have a base curve of 6, and the AO a base curve of 4. The RE have more tacky silicone nose pads, the AO are a harder rubber. I will give the edge to Randolph. The welds appear more substantial.

Owned several Ray-Bans, Bausch and Lomb era included. I was recently handed down an old pair of Randolph 52mm aviators (presumably from the 80 or 90s) and they are a different feel from all the Ray-Bans I’ve worn! Highly comfortable! No adjustment needed and I’ve taken comfort on how nearly indestructible the company subtly mentions in their glasses are designed to be.

I totally wish RE would make a base curve 8 wrap aviator sunglass. Most pilots I know (general aviation, not commercial) wear wrap frames. FYI I prefer the Concorde for a bit better coverage. I have several pairs of ray bans. And one piece of advice I can give..is don't buy from their clearance items. If you buy their regular priced items...it probably will be a good item for years. But the clearance..you are gonna get a pair that is lopsided. I swear their sales are irregular sunglasses. Because the pair I mean I actually had to send back what they first sent me cause one lenses was bigger than the other. And the replacement pair..which I kept...are a little lopsided. So..lol...if you do buy ray ban..do it when you are willing to pay full price. But I can say all my full priced ones are very good and last for years.

I bought a pair of RE Aviators a few months back.
My view is with the glass lens these are as close to a “buy it for life” pair of sunglasses you will ever find, IMO.
Get on eBay and look at all the vintage military pairs from the 80s and 90s and see how well they’ve held up for evidence of that.
Lens optics are as good as anybody out there - as good as Maui Jim super thin glass and better than Costa 580G. Clear, clear, clear. Polarization is top notch, and American Gray maintains neutral color (which I like).
Look to the green or tan lens for contrast boosting if that’s what you want.
Frame construction and hinges are as good as any metal frames anywhere - the only way Randolph could improve it would be make them out of Titanium.
And I honestly hope they do get into the Ti market one day.
The nose pads are the best I’ve ever experienced. They manage to stay in place and remain comfortable for long periods in spite of the heavier glass lenses.
Nose pads and or frames have historically killed the comfort of many pairs of decent sunglasses for me - but Randolph has nailed them.
Bayonet temples may require “tweaking” for desired tension but once you get it they are great and pair great with over the ear protection.
Randolph isn’t a joke, they aren’t hype, they are extremely high quality and get all the little details right - IMO their quality and attention to details surpasses the majority of the $400-$800 high fashion brands - American Optical as well.
Ray Ban is closer in quality to the Chinese knock offs than to Randolph.
If you’re interested in squared off “navigator” style metal framed, glass lens sunglasses I don’t think anyone does it as well as Randolph. Honest opinion.
