  • In a recent video we took a look at the performance of the new AMD Radeon RX 7900XT and we mentioned in that video we had some issues at lower resolutions due to the CPU we were using. Well now this issue is gone and with a new monster of a CPU in hand we are seeing some awesome improvements.

The 5800x3d is going to join the 1080ti in gaming lore for the next 4-5 years.

I almost wish I got a 1080ti instead of the 3060ti I have. 3gb more GRAM, and basically same FPS in most games (yes it is slightly lower, but not by much usually). And price would have been half to buy a used 1080ti over the 3060ti new. All the 3060ti has is ray tracing, but turning those on just kills FPS so I don't (as well as most people) use it. I have a 5800x because I built 2 years ago before 5800x3d came out. Not really worth upgrading now.

I upgraded from the Ryzen 5 3600 to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and it's made a heck of a difference in everything. I do though only run the RTX 3070 and have been looking to upgrade the GPU. I recently built a new PC with the 5800x3D at its heart. Got some good offers on end of line stock. Coming from a fx8350 the difference is certainly noticeable, though to be honest the fx chip is still capable enough for most tasks, despite having been in my system since 2013, always clocked at 4.6 ghz, with a Corsair H80i that still keeps it cool.

    Great video thanks!
I did recently upgrade from an R5 2600X , and the 5800X3d CPU was on my shopping list.
I ended up going with an R7 5700X and I'm very please with it.
The deciding factor was cost, I with an Amazon discount code I managed to get the 5700X for £124. £150 less than the 5800X3d at the time.
The 5700X is performing admirably at ultra wide 1440p especially on sim games like Train Sim 3 which is surprisingly demanding. Another nice feature of the 5700x is lower power consumption, 65W, and heat. With a single fan ID cooler it manages to stay around 55c under heavy load.
Id love the Fractal AIO to go in my case, (same as yours) but they are quite pricey at the moment.

I upgraded to a 5800x3D when the prices fell last month, but then my 5600x, X570 board and RAM went to a data analyst who needed a working build fast for her work.
So actually I should have gone to 7600x with B650 & Expo RAM as it would have been just 50€ more and uplifted the whole platform.
I only had weeks before doing 2 rebuilds as I took my used parts in a rucksack building it into a new case.
I really like x3D tech, but the uplift is insanely big sometimes, but it's a little slower than the 6c at common light threaded tasks.
A cool running CPU the large L3 reduces power consumption to/from memory and the stepping improved.

For me the upgrade was fast and cheap requiring little to no effort. Barely over $100 to sell the old one and buy the new one on sale and plop it in. In my games I immediately got 15% - 25% boost in fps without having to rebuild. At the same time the 7000 series platform (7700X+B650) would have required multiple hours of work and put me out of pocket at least $500 at the time and barely faster than the 5800X3D after I was done. Now, with a 5800X3D, I can wait a year or two and see what the refresh of the 7000 series looks like or perhaps a sale on the 7800X3D package. All for under $150. 5800X is no where near the gaming performance of a 5800X3D in alot of titles.

I guess the takeaway is that if youre just below 144 fps with the 5600x, you could potentially take full advantage of a 144hz+ refresh rate by replacing it the 5800x3d? Otherwise, isnt it a bit silly to game at 1080p with a 7900xt- trying to best 287 fps in stead of moving to 1440p?

Please stop using the term "Bottleneck" to describe a limiting factor of a computer system.
A "Bottleneck" is when there is a severe imbalance of components in a system, such as an i3 10100 paired with a 4090, where one component is completely out of step with the rest of the components to the extent that it degrades the system as a whole.

This is changing though as more and more games / enthusiast level GPUs are seeing bigger swings at those higher resolutions so it won't be long before we can really start showing them up there.

I play in 1440p ultrawide with a 6700xt. Most of my games are single player non-competitive graphics heavy and the sweet spot is around 90-100 FPS, so i'm 90% of my time GPU bottlenecked or don't care going over 100FPS for minimum improvement in gameplay. Going from a 5600X to a 5800x3d was gaining me ~5 FPS max. Not worth it in my case since both CPUs are still separated by at least $120,00. It's more future proof, sure, and i'm happy with it, but the upgrade is not all that massive for now, if you play games at my resolution and type.

i tested it. first you got to undervolt the 5800x 3d, bios or software like pbo2tuner. then you gotta do the same with the 7900xt. 300W+ is nonsense .......but it is like it is.
For 1080p, with Vsync, you could have great power consumption, like minus 200/150w or less.
With ray tracing it's another thing. you gotta, without help of fsr 1/2, raw 3080 power.
and without RT, you got the raw power of a 4080.....which is not that useful, unless you use unreal engine 5.......ray tracing with lumen, not rt cores.
So Nvidia's gpu are better.....but they are taking us for fools.
7900 xt is not a bad choice, counting on drivers improvements, implementation of FSR3, and games engines that won't run mostly on RT cores.
it's better priced than nvidias offer. and futureproof with 20 Gb of RAM. especially when recents games often need 10 Gb+ of gpu RAM.
    Pairing it with a 5800x 3d, or 5900x,5800x,5700x, 5600x is a smart choice.
tbe 7800x3d should get the benefict of higher frequencies, or higher memory bandwidth with ddr5. Get "expo" rated memory for amd.
    But it will be pricy.
and when the need to change the 7900xt will occur......you could upgrade. but it should last a while.
Chosing the resolutions is alsi a question of power consumption.
@1080p, you can get 120+ fps/to 240 maybe, with RayTracing sometimes, for less than 200W
    @1440p, it's higher, 250W maybe
4k, you're getting 300w+ all the time, for mostly 60 fps....not talking about RT
    unless you activate FSR 1-2-3
So , not everyone may like the 7900xt but its worth the bet.
5800x3D also. undervolted, i get around 4400 mhz all core for les than 50W.
the gain in fps is unconsistent for average fps. but it exists for the 1% lows.
you got the grunt to compensate the ddr4/ddr5 difference, with the big L3 cache.
    so worth the bet........
less frequency, for 8 cores.....that should last a few years.
The difference witj 7800x 3d should be from 15 to let's say 40 fps, between those 2 cpu's, paired with 7900 xt. So. either you upgrade, either you buy new.....
Those products are good either way
    ho, i forgot. the 20 gb RAM quantity.......is a masterchoice 🙂

  • @battlepowered
    @battlepowered ปีที่แล้ว +1

From my testing, I have found the following. This cpu is pointless for now. It does great at 1080p, with a gpu that lets it stretch its legs. But if I have to get a 1440p/4k gpu, my performance in 1080p is already going to be amazing regardless. As you can see in the video, most games gained anywhere from 20-50fps. When you already have well over 120fps, are you really going to notice 40 additional fps? No.. and why would I want a 4k gpu for 1080p gaming?
I have two of the same pc, one with a 5800x3d and one with a 5600x. With my gpu at 1080p, the performance is identical. If I play in 4k, it becomes gpu bound so the 5600x becomes plenty. It just kinda feels like a waste of money to me. For now.. In 5-6 years if you’re still hanging on to a 6900xt/3090, this cpu will make sense.

I still run it. Such a great CPU, like dude said down below, one of the best gaming CPUs ever released. Even if he went AM5 with a 7800x3d he would get 20-30 fps more, BUT for what he would have to do, new mobo, ddr5 ram, and the CPU would have been way more expensive for 20-30 fps that he doesn't need to switch. When the 5800x3d can no longer handle modern titles, that's when I'll upgrade, which I can safely assume will not be for at least a few more years, maybe longer. I'm not bashing the new tech, but I game AND run 3D renders with this CPU and I just don't see the need for anything else. Especially, you have to watch out on this new tech, look at Intel with the 13th and 14th gen cpu's, burning up, crashing, mass instability. I know I can TRUST this CPU to handle what I throw at it. The new tech, cant trust it, till it proves itself. Great stuff man. Drew from BeanieBro's.

You guys could have easily sold your 5800x3D , board and hardware and already been on AM5 7600x for about the same price.
I had a 5600x then 5900x for a long time. Then got my hands on a used $263 5800x3D. It certainly was better for my 1% lows. I realized I could sell a low end x570 board and 5800x3D for $380, the 32gb of ram for $50 and went to a x670 Aorus Elite, 7600x and Gskill Trident CL30 6000MT for about $40 more out of pocket. The extra 1000mhz of clock speed makes up for the cache in most cases. 5450mhz vs 4450mhz.
I’ve since found new 7800x3D for $220,260 and 340. Prime day this last week I ordered three B650 Aorus Elite boards for $80 each. I will be selling off very good MSI x570s tomahawks and edge WiFi, 5600x,5700x,5800x , basic 3200mhz / 3600mhz ram kits and will be trying to run 7600x or better as the used market is about to have them likely around $120. Out of pocket will be easily around $50 each to upgrade from good am4 builds to better am5 upgrades. Sell while people still want to buy AM4.

@@45eno why would I get the 7600x. Check the numbers, wouldn't even be an upgrade. Now the 7800x3d, but honestly 20 % is not big enough upgrade especially when I can run everything ultra with no problem. I don't need extra fps. I don't chase fps not that I have a problem in that area, I go for quality, and the 5800x3d doesn't even stretch it's legs. To be honest I believe AMD has 1 more ace up the sleeve, I think there going to create 1 more x3d for AM4. I'll probably wait until the next socket comes out. 2027 is right around the corner. I run a blocked 6950xt with the 5800x3d and IF I have to upgrade before then I have the 4090 to lean on but I don't believe it'll be necessary. I don't need the newest of the new. Again the quality, and I get that with no sweat. I game and a little bit of 3D rendering and have no need for 16 cores and infinite amount of threads. The people that know, know and the people that don't, THINK they need the newest products. The 3D V Cache tech in my opinion is the best tech created for gaming since AMD created the smart access tech. I have never had a CPU like this where full heavy gaming and it's like the CPU doesn't even need to be used. It's on a different level than normal CPU's. Keep gaming. Drew from BeanieBro's.
