What a grand sight to see her under full sail, slipping along through the briny. like she was made for it.Greetings from Australia.Praying for a great2024 for all those at A2A.
Yea! far better than those cats on other channels When I get my finances situated better Will be looking for a gaff rigged sloop wood and full keel the best
Well, there is room for a couple of topsails, to maybe not _quite_ the full suite. And a quick Wikipedia search suggests that it is possible to run something between the masts. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaff_rig#/media/File:Rose_Dorothea-Lipton's_Cup-1907_Fishermen's_Race.jpg shows topsails and the extra one (that I don't know the name of). Admittedly that's a schooner, and the Atkin drawings of Ingrid didn't show topsails. So I might have persuaded myself that I am wrong. 🙂
Just for those wanting to drop the name of every possible sail, this is the sail inventory from the Arabella web site:- Rigging and sails Rig-Ketch Sail Area-816 square feet (jib, 162; staysail, 123; main, 346; mizzen 185) By my count she is under her full suite of sails in this video. You're welcome.
Watching Arabella under full sail warms the cockles of my heart. I reminds me why 6.5 yrs ago I started watching your build. The very best to your mom!❤
Oh gosh I can’t take credit for that, Charles. That time it was Scott and Jack toolin’ around in the dinghy. Thanks though! 😊 I’ll let the lads know! -Anne
Dear Ben and Anne, thank you so much for bringing Steve’s story to my small screen in southern Asutralia. Each week is another small joy in boating vicariously through your compelling production. May 2024 bring more adventures and joy to the entire team.
Was really lovely to see Arabella running under full sail. I feel like that scratched a 7 year itch for me to see that. I can't wait to see an Atlantic crossing someday.
That water shot of her sailing is so beautiful. She's such a gorgeous vessel Steve! I've followed you since year one and it's really amazing to see Arabella sail.
I've been watching the videos on my big tv in my liv room and haven't been able to make a comment but had to get on my laptop to make this one. What great shots of Arabella under full sail. Steve and everyone involved--me too as a long-time viewer and a supporter--must be immensely proud.
A fine vessel cutting thru the seas in full rig. I always liked seeing sailing ships at sea……not the racing yachts and the like but the ketch rigs, the topsail schooners and full rigged ships. I’m still watching after all these years. Pleasant travels A2A team.
Sails Are your engine too. They are much more expensive than Sunbrella sail covers. UV Damage is real and fast! Please get some, if you need some sewing, I’ve made a few.
Glad you found a great place. Robins smile when talking about writing the check was Priceless! A true happy smile. It was great to see the boat under full sail. It’s just beautiful. If you guys find your selfs on the vineyard give me a heads up and the beers are on me. If you’re here for a few days I have a car you can bower to get around as well and Akiva is welcome to ride along. Happy New year to all. Tim
That's so very kind, Tim! We're all set for a car, but do please keep on helping cruisers in your area. I have a lot of kindnesses I'm still paying forward, most of which are still very happy thoughts even on the toughest of days. -Anne
Thought of you on Friday, Steve and Robin, but mostly of Akiva, as I repaired a gentleman's bicycle that shared your pup's name! I"ve never met someone with that name, and have only before heard it here, the last 5 years or so that I've been following along. My first video was the keel pour, and I've enjoyed every single one since. I've truly enjoyed the journey and the evolution of the channel through all it's iterations (though the original opening song is still the correct one in my opinion ;) Seeing you now sail your dream is truly awesome to watch. Can't wait to follow along on the continuing adventure for another 5 years and beyond!
Wow - You went through Woods Hole with a strong current from behind. Living on the edge! I try to only hit it at slack tide, or with a weak current against. I went through once with probably 3 or 4 knots against because I couldn’t get the engine started, and I didn’t dare try to turn around. But, I was on a good, strong beam reach with steady wind (same tack & heading I’d been on for hours on my way out of Nantucket) and the boat was slowly pushing its way through. I figured I’d sort the motor out when I got into Buzzard’s Bay. Then I start hearing some chatter on the radio about a sailboat aground in Wood’s Hole, so I’m scanning all around and I couldn’t see it. That’s when I realized I was the ONLY sailboat in Woods Hole at the moment - they were talking about me!😅. I radioed that I was doing fine - slow, but fine. The tow boat guy came out and stood by until I got safely out the other end.
Ha! What a great story! Thanks for sharing it. What’s kinda hilarious is, given your position, they somehow thought you went aground in plenty of water. 🧐🤣 happy new year! -Anne
I’ve sailed in conditions like that before! Oh man, also reminds me of my friend Barry, whose rough looking boat when he first got it made someone call the Coast Guard as he came drifting in on just the lightest breath of wind to his dock in Oriental, North Carolina. There was a report of a derelict boat adrift in the channel. Nope! Just sailin slow! -Anne
Happy to see you back on the tube! Just a suggestion from someone with a few more years experience. Make a loose plans, and don’t put so much pressure on yourself to produce amazing videos. You do a great job, but I’m not sure they need to be as good as they are to be successful. I know how much work editing can be if you let it. I see other channels do way less, and seem to stay consistent. Can wait to see what you have coming out!
Thanks for the kind words about our videos. I think that what we do is a reflection of the respect and admiration we have for the people we make them for, and gosh I hope a lot of people read my comment here. As we approach episode 300, we should be pretty darn good at it! -Anne
@@AcornToArabellaBelieve me Anne et-al, your contributions to showcasing the wooden boat community, not just A2A, are absolutely appreciated and yes, your abilities have naturally become honed as time has gone by. Thank you for what you do and the dedication you demonstrate in your obvious love of the subjects, both the boats with the craftsmanship they embody and the people who commit to building and restoring them. Above all, I wish you, everyone involved, the very best for 2024. Sail on, laugh lots, cherish each other, stay safe and just love life for all its trials and treasures. Happy New Year everyone, Cheers, R. 😎👍🍻
Yeah, that waterline looks really good. Whole boat looks good, y'all did a wonderful job building her. You can be really proud of your accomplishment Steve. Of course, congrat's to you and Robin. And a BIG shout out to Anne and Ben for all the time, effort and editing they've put in. Here's hoping the whole lot of you has a Happy & Healthy New Year.
I look forward to seeing you using Arabella as a sailing boat with a motor, rather than a motor boat with sails. Doyle have made you some very nice sails. I can not find the words to describe the pleasure I have received by watching this series from the very start. Thank you...
Nice line handling out of New Bedford! using lines and springs to get out of tight spaces or with an uncooperative wind and tide is a dying art in the era of the bow thruster. Beautiful sailing shots, glad you found a place to snuggle in for the winter. Sending mum food energy. Happy New Year!
For the pitch, have you looked at a soldering iron or a heat gun to melt the seam without scorching the deck? For the leaking deck beam- Its a temporary fix, unless it works, at which point it will be a permanent fix.
What a journey! From watching the keel being poured, the first timbers being attached to sailing under full sail. Congratulations again. Arabella looked majestic in this video. Happy New Year! Steve ,Robyn and your crews and families ⛵🇺🇸
Steve and Robin, now that’s a beautiful sight! Arabella - and you - completely in your element, under full sail on a sunny day in the gorgeous waters of coastal Massachusetts with friends along for the journey. I am so happy for the two of you! While life continues to throw challenges your way, you continue to navigate them as best you can, which of course is all any of us can do. I think of you and your family often despite the radio silence and look forward to seeing you again when the time is right. Please let your mom know I am sorry to know that her cancer has advanced and that I am pulling for her, and for you. Cindy
Ah....Woods Hole! In the summer, there is usually a Coast Guard patrol boat that sits there as a "Maritime Catcher In The Rye!' A rescue crew for those who fail to respect the dangerous tide and complicated navigation. Well done Arabella! DD
The pitch is cool, much easier for a repair than Sikaflex for sure. I have a house in Wellfleet Cape Cod built in 1767, and the window openings were splined with pitch soaked rags. Beautiful boat you guys, looking forward to watching some adventures.
We load the fireworks barge during the 4th out the shipyard next to the bridge on fish island, and it is a crazy city loud and busy. Good choice on finding something a little quieter.
A safe and prosperous New Year to Arabella, Steve, Robyn and everyone involved. The transition from build to sail continues with the same spirit and I look forward to following your trials and adventures through the new year and beyond.
Great video this week! Loved seeing Steve sailing her under full sail. The chase boat shots were super great to see... I guess that little electric motor really can get it moving when needed. Also, super interesting to see the repairs for the small drip. Well done video on that again! Prayers continuing for Steve's Mom and hope that she is improving and somewhat comfortable. Akiva looks great as always perhaps slowing down? Water line looks great as well. Hope you all have a safe New Year's and a peaceful 2024. Blessings!

What a beautiful sight to see Arabella under full sail, Mr Doyle did a great job! Great job on fixing the leak.
Wow, Steve, we have been looking forward to this sale for I believe 7 years? Great to see all the sails up . Enjoy the winter
These shots of her running under full sails filled me with so much joy! What a beauty ♥
Really enjoyed this episode, sailing that beauty in open waters is something else.
I love her classic lines. She looks like a tough little boat.
She sure is. Thanks for watching!
Hi Steve and crew, enjoying watching Arabella all grown up now in full sail . Friday’s come and go. I always enjoy getting to go along for the ride.
So well put, happy Friday!
How nice to finally see some sailing!
Beautiful sight when she is under sail.
She's a beauty! Livin' the dream...

Livin' the life there, Steve! I can only marvel at your good fortune (backed up with a long stretch of hard building work) in being able to do this!
That shot with all the sails up was fab! The new anchorage looks very peaceful.

Brilliant fix to the leak. Only someone who had hand built their own boat would have determioned the cause of that leak! Seriously impressive.
Great following over the years. Loved the build from pour "lead" to launch. Best wishes to your family.

Great footage from the tender. Nice to see a 3rd-person POV of the vessel under sail.
A cool aspect of the electric outboard on the dingy is you can get shots like these with nice ambient sound.
