Maintenance and repairs will be a never ending reality, especially as you put in the miles and miles and miles of travel. It makes me think of life aboard a U.S. Navy ship (I was in the Marines, not the Navy); everywhere I looked something was being repaired, routinely maintained, or inspected, and it never ended. Hearing the compliment the diver gave you on your boat's construction must have been very gratifying. It's good to know that your hard work and attention to detail, during the building of the boat, will result in saving you from major headaches in the future. Your maintenance and repairs may not become show stopping events. More sailing, less dry-docks...
We are so happy to that you are able to return to sharing with us. Thank you. You absolutely deserve every syllable of praise you are given on the quality of your skills and their result: Arabella Also, the highlight of this episode was seeing my sewing machine - the Singer 301 - doing your fabric work.
Sitting in Oklahoma, watching Arabella, wearing my Acorn to Arabella tee shirt my wife got me for my birthday many years ago. That’s what makes this media great.
"She is the license holder for lobster catching, only she is allowed to pull the baskets up" this can be convenient depending who says it🤣🤣🤣 But all jokes aside, that bay seems to be a lovely place to live, everything at a slower pace in life, perhaps maybe cold in winter, but still… Good to see that the Arabella and crew are getting back into adventure.
Such amazing people you meet along the way. A big thank you to all who have joined in on Arabella’s journey. It’s truly been a piece of my life’s journey from the beginning.
Coming from the Chesapeake Bay area, we have Blue Crabs but not lobsters. It always surprised me just how different those 2 crustaceans are from each other. I’ve always seen people putting lobsters back into water to store them but that is rule #1 for keeping crabs: don’t put them back in water! Once a blue crab is out of the water for a little while they actively work to expel it from their respiratory organs and will “drowned” if put back into water. They can survive out of water, under the right conditions, for over a week. Although most crabbers only bank on a few days to be safe. That is why you will always see crabs stored and sold in baskets.
great pots, Riverside or Shepards Coated Wire i used to make pots for all around the UK, made a ton of Cuttle Fish pots, Lobster pots (some folding for the yachties), my favorite ones were the Prawn pots but after making 6500 pots over 4 years my hands began to ache too much to work - i been out the game since 2008 and my hands still ache if i overdo things - later diagnosed with Fibromyalgia so now i get why i ache so much love the comment made by the diver/boat builder, and nothing wrong with a little endulgence and self promotion Steve, you have built a fine boat, and lets think ahead to the next possible owner who can hopefully look back over this footage and say he or she now owns a fine boat built very well by a guy he started out as a non boat builder with zero experience other than the wood skills he has from his grandpa's workshop
I love your videos: the sights, the sounds, the feel, Ben’s soothing voice. I started watching at the start of the pandemic and your videos helped soothe my nerves. ❤ The pandammit is over but you are not. I’m grateful for you. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Lovely video, and you should justifiably promote yourself as the builder of Arabella. It is an incredible achievement for one man and a few really outstanding friends.
You’re running a tight ship Steve and you deserve all the help you get as you never forget to acknowledge it; kudos. By the way, I’d like to congratulate Ben on the high quality of his videos and how he succeeds at embarking us on the voyage by giving the viewer all the space and making his work so seamless that we forget about it; I’m very grateful and admirative for that as well. Bless you all. 🙏🏼♥️
I surfed the beaches from Salisbury to Kittery for many years throughout the winter and wondered, on those days where the ocean and the wind were perfect for sailing, why no one was out on there exercising their skills and enjoying the wind. To each his own....
Call me crazy but I honestly thought after the boat was complete and you started sailing that I might not enjoy those videos as much as I did the boat build. That’s because I don’t know anything about boats or sailing and was never previously interested in either. I just like to build stuff out of wood. Boy was I wrong about not enjoying the sailing videos. I told my sister that I’ve been watching a channel of a guy building a boat for the last 8 years or so and now I watch him sail it and she looked at me like I was a little crazy. Sailing and sail boats aren’t overly popular in a landlocked state like where I live.
Sounds like Robyn is your best friend! It's people like you and Robyn that keep me centred on the fact that a country and its people are not their government. The two are different things.
Intrinsic value Steve. You didn't have to do anything to "deserve" love and support. All of your value is wrapped up in the simple fact that you exist. May your soul rest and may your Mother's life resonate through you and live on as such!
I am 15-20 minutes from Mattapoisett, and have a full portable shop on wheels if you need anything this week!! Also I'm a finish carpenter/GC, with lots of other skills so Please don't hesitate to get in touch. Hope you are well, good to see you cruising again!!
I am again so honored to be able to spend a little time with you all. Only as a bystander/lurker/admirer. What you are doing fills my heart and soul. As you head south, especially south of the mouth of the Delaware Bay, give a wave to the Rehoboth Beach coastline. I will be waving back!
I was looking at those rivet heads when you were running the solar panel wires and was reminded of the "BRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTT" of the air hammers lol Im sure that sound and vibration is imprinted forever on A LOT of peoples souls hahaha! Can you believe it was 2yrs ago (less i think?) and Arabella was still up on blocks just getting her planking?! Those were my favorite videos, watching the puzzle of the siding coming together was 👌🏻
Those traps bring back memories. Back in the late 90s NC was doing a Lottery for 5 year long/10/lifetime Fishing license. As a joke my Dad entered the running for a 5 year set.. ..and won. We didn't even have a boat. So, with one of the 200 permits for commercial fishing, he bought a 18ft doublewide Canoe and 12 crab traps. We worked the crab season out of that canoe and made enough profit to buy a 20ft well boat and 12 more traps. We strapped the canoe on the bow of the Well boat and worked the remainder of the summer crabbing and then switched to netting Croaker, Drum and Spot for the rest of the year.. . By the end of the next summer, We had made enough money to buy more traps, a proper truck and 30ft Whaler for his true passion, Sail fishing. Ironically, He was used to the Florida Sail Runs so... After 6 months of setting 40 traps everyday with a Canoe strapped to our bow, and still striking out on Sailfish 10 and 20 miles off shore.. He gave up. We kept the 30ft Whaler and he sold the rest of the business.. A local shrimper lashed the canoe to the deck of his 80ft Shrimp boat they used the Welly as a tender. That guy was so happy to get that license, he kept us in fish and shrimp for 3 years. XP Pops eventually got the Sailfish route down and finally got to bring home a few nice specimens for his freezer and wall. That was a very profitable, entertaining and satisfying few years for us, not only as businessmen but as Father and Son too. I will always be thankful for that time I had with him. But...I never want to see another crab trap in my life. XD
did akiva get to see that seal, or whatever that animal was? that should have been a real treat, i know it was for me. another video full of wonderment and information, thank you.
About not telling people that you are the boat building before, you get a more honest opinion about the work you did then if you had told them beforehand. Glad to see you folks back, I had a busy summer and I can't believe it's November already
I'm enjoying the feeling of coming home to some old friends and a beautiful locale, some time working with my hands alongside those friends, quiet thoughts of a lobster feed and thinking "Let's cook on the boat 'cause those hundred steps each way..." Thank you one and all, looking forward to being away from home port and sailing on the tides. Fair Winds and Following Seas.
good to see you in Mattapoisett this Monday. Wonderful you got such a ringing endorsement of the tightness of the boat. Testament to your meticulous work.
Another really great and interesting video. So much great stuff happening, wish it were longer or offered more thorough coverage of a topic or project. But I understand you have to leave some of it on the editing room digital floor. I enjoyed it a great deal. Funny thing, I did not receive the Friday morning email letting me know the video was there. Maybe you have decided not to do those but I actually remembered to check later in the day. I hope she is sailing smoothly now! Peace and safety are my prayer for you all!
Just an FYI if you want to center the mast port to starboard take the halyard that is on the center of the mast and pull it to the chain plates. If it is the same to each side it is centered. If you try the level off the dock and eyeball if the boat has a list you will be off.
My lobster woman and I loved this video! You are all welcome back here any time!
Thanks again Pete and Edie!!!
I really missed you guys. Glad you’re back. Friday morning seems normal again. Safe journeys
Yep, I started back when they where felling timber and doing every other Friday. Its nice to see them back
Sure beats a stick in the eye or 16 titanium screws and a neck brace. Keep moving brother. It’s the only way forward.
My Fridays just got such a massive upgrade.
I welcome you guys back and am commenting to help you get the algo back on track. Lots of love.
gotta shake the seaweed out of the algorithm too! thanks for the extra help.
I said it before and I'll say it again; Arabella is a tank! Take care of yourselves and her and she will always bring you home.

Steve's dodgy dodger is now an artful dodger :) great work, great video as always
Being a genuine person and putting good out in the world begets good coming back to you Steve. Happy Friday Akiva and Crew
Scott seems to be about the best helper you could ask for. He just jumps in a gets it done with few words.
Good friends make all the difference in the world. 🤟🏻
Thanks for being the best part of Friday mornings!
Sometimes the help we get is pure grace. We didn't or couldn't do anything to deserve or earn it.
Ah! this was back to life. I am looking forward to se more of this. Thank you.
You told a compelling story with compelling characters but it's all real and still happening.
We are so happy to that you are able to return to sharing with us. Thank you. You absolutely deserve every syllable of praise you are given on the quality of your skills and their result: Arabella
Also, the highlight of this episode was seeing my sewing machine - the Singer 301 - doing your fabric work.
*- I am so glad to see the "life-lines" {**17:47**} and netting on the sides. I had been wanting to see that for the longest time...Phew!*

Haha, you got me there! But I will say that I also have a license… the rule is that everyone must haul their own traps! 😊
@@petern372 beautiful region where you live, love it…👍
And Akiva is off to becoming an international doggo of mystery! Enjoy and save travels! 🍻
I never would have thought there would be so much growth on the hull, now I'm picturing a giant scrubbing brush. 😆
You know how Rust never sleeps? Same with barnacles.
Such amazing people you meet along the way. A big thank you to all who have joined in on Arabella’s journey. It’s truly been a piece of my life’s journey from the beginning.
The algorithm failed to alert me about last week's video, but I'm all caught up now! Very happy to have you back as part of my weekly routine.

The pandammit is over but you are not. I’m grateful for you.
Thank you. 🙏🏻
What you did is be yourself. You are personable, hardworking, awesome craftsman. I'd want to know you even without the boat.
iirc that anode is looking in a lot better shape this time around.
Bringing that dodger top down the ramp and onto the boat was a great bit of video editing. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Lovely video, and you should justifiably promote yourself as the builder of Arabella. It is an incredible achievement for one man and a few really outstanding friends.

That's not self promotion. That is pride in your achievements. That's what made Arabella what she is.
What a touching ending expression of thanks! Great to have you back and hope to see you in New Zealand one day!

Thats a good dog.
Love the ending shot with the three of you on deck with jackets. It looks like how it is just supposed to be. Safe travels!
You are humble but proud embrace your success consistently and it will reward you and yours.
Arabella must be feeling like a more complete boat now that you have replaced the make-shift dodger with its permanent sleek one, it looks great!

Those boats take a lot of attention. 🎉
And, of course, Champ Lager for the crew! ;-)
Nothing but love! Thanks for sharing!
really enjoyable video!
I always enjoy Ben’s musical accompaniment to the videos.
Happy sailing! :)
Great video seeing the boat getting ready to go and hearing the excellent sound track . Follow the birds head south !
Thanks very much. It will be nice to be warm!
Ever feel like Capt Sparrow? "STOP PUTTING HOLES IN MY BLOODY SHIP."
Ditto! I cringe every time I see Steve doing the layout for another hole! Thanks for the chuckle!
So nice to hear Caribbean pronounced correctly 1:40. Thank you, Ben.
Lovett Steve 🫡💪👊🤙🤟❤❤
Steve great to see the 3 loves of your life back at sea. Happy sailing.
So awesome! grew up in Maine moved to SE Alaska and forgot all about the East Coat. Thanks for reminding me!
Wishing you fair winds and fairer weather for what must be some much needed R&R.
we’ll need to make it through some sporty winds first, but it’s getting there!
Good people attract good people.
Don't know what you did to deserve it? Dude, you built a friggin boat! And apparently a very well built one! Crow a little!
Beautiful job as always Ben
While I'm excited for the new content, my heart goes out to you Steve. Thank you for sharing YOUR journey. ❤
Great having a normal Friday again now that you guys are back. All the best from a hospital in Glasgow, Scotland.
we’re wishing you health! ❤️
You created and brought something beautiful into this world, thats why you deserve to be happy. Thanks for sharing.
You can feel the healing. So much love.

It must feel very good getting Arabella back into shape and beginning the journey south!
Happy sails! Happy trails! ⛵️

I live on the far side of the continent, up in BC. We chase Dungeness crabs and sadly lobsters never took but I think people tried in the past.
