You don't slice away the enlarged basal plate ?

I mentioned this comment in our podcast and we discussed it - short answer is that Martin says he doesn't remove the basal plate (you can also see how it's grown as we show the very bulb in the video): th-cam.com/video/rMiJSSsEPgo/w-d-xo.html
