Merry Christmas! I bought my shotgun 50 years ago before I knew anything about shotguns. In that time I've come to shoot several other guns when I ran a trap and skeet range. So many times a guy would show up with an expensive gun only to be disappointed in the performance. And so many times I could shoot their gun better than they could...its not the gun as much as it is the shooter. if the gun is reliable, patience and practice are the driving factor.
I had been shooting a sporter for trap for about a year. It was a 20 gauge with 28 inch barrels. I found a used Browning Citori XT in good condition for a great price. It has 32 inch barrels and is 2 lbs heavier. I need to get a fitting done with it to dial it in. Back to shooting 13-18’s. Hoping to improve from there
I had a Silver Pigeon before and got a DT11 2 weeks ago. My score went up immediately by 3 birds! I am now shooting 27 at Olympic Skeet! Kidding aside, I think the idea to get a new gun makes sense once you have solidified your scores at a specific point. If you shoot more than just on Weekends then you might want to upgrade. I shoot Berettas' and I would say that they all shoot the same. The difference between a SP and DT11 is that the DT11 can take more cycles of rounds and has slightly better handling than an entry level SP. The price difference is a huge one though! So moral of the story, if you plan to shoot more rounds (roughly 10K and up) a year then go for it. On the other hand, if money in no question: UPGRADE the prettiest thing out there! Merry Christmas from Germany!
