This makes sense why you think that scene is a bit hard to explain because different people have different opinions about but this was very interesting 🧐😊
Scene happened in the early 2000 and emerged from Emo in the USA, overseas it was very popular around the middle of 2000 until around 2010. Of course there are still scene kids, teens and adults out there to this time. The name itself got being used around 2002, from what I remember and straight edge is emerged from punk its actually a subculture from hard-core punk. Also known as sXe, XXX and X. Also more in reaction from the excessive lifestyle of punk. Straight edge, the name itself began to circle around in the 1980, with a song from the band "Minor Threat". From that it lead on to a wide variety of believes. Common believes are vegetarianism, animal rights - it began to be a movement around that time. People are still living by these believes until today. Which is, in my opinion, something incredible. William Tsitsos said that straight edge has gone through 3 eras since it was founded in the 1980s. You can literally still find parts of all these subcultures and believes up until today in other subcultures, also in visual key you can find parts of this. Tbh, straight edge became more like a very popular lifestyle. You don't have to be in any of these "scenes" to life this lifestyle. I think the highs of emo and scene stayed in the early 2000s until 2010 since it was very popular around that time and almost everyone I knew back then wanted to be a part of it. Even visual key has gotten many subgenres throughout the years which is amazing, in my opinion.
A little add on: in my opinion scene has always been more about the style while emo was more on the music side of coin. Emo is short for the music style around that time. Emotional hard-core. Compared to this, VK is both at the same time. I remember using tons of hairspray to get that VK hair back then when I started listening to dir en grey for example next to me, looking like a metal head which I still am.
This was a great video, I’m a beginner of a scene kid. Wanted to be a scene kid for awhile I was born 2007 so I wasn’t able to experience the scene culture but now that I’m old enough to I can finally be who I wanna be. :)
I love the video. It’s hard to describe the difference. Bc the looks are very similar except scene is brighter colors and is more focused on style more than music. Emo on the other hand is more focused on the music rather than the fashion. All I know is emo music was first before the fashion so you don’t have to look emo to be emo. Also a lot of the music that was popular with some scene kids (at least what Ive heard) was like: The Millionaires, Blood on the dance Floor, brokeNCYDE, The Medic Droid and Dot Dot Curve. It sounds more electronic like with some screaming in the vocals. It’s similar to 2000s emo except more get up and dance kinda vibes. Idk if I’m right but crunkcore was popular I think with the scenes. Scenes were described as very extroverted and emos were more emotional and introverted lol. I know the scene fashion also had the emo fringe bangs look. I think the hairs confuse people bc they are the same exact style. But how you can tell if it’s scene or emo hair is color. Scenes added more colors and added coontails and tiaras or a HUGE bow. Usually the scenes did more of the teasing hair thing. Emos tease their hair too but I mostly see scenes tease more. I might be wrong though. Scene kinda has a funny style in my opinion and I love it lol. Those big buggy shades and rhinestones and ofc osiris’ shoes. But Emo fashion is darker. Not like gothic dark though. Bc emos do add color just dark shades of color usually. They like to even it out lol. Sideways Stud belts and wrist bands, smudged eyeliner to make you look like you cried. Ugh I love emo fashion. I’m more of an emo but sometimes I do wear coontails and tiaras for fun. But in my heart I’m an emo kid. I guess emo is more about music but also like to use their style to express themselves with their music. Emo music talks about emotional things and I guess emos wanna match their fashion with their music vibes. Scene is like expressing themselves in a really fun and out there kinda way more focused on fashion and looks and have the personality of a lot of confidence bc they know they are THE bad bitch in the room lol

Emo Is Sad and Scene Is Happy
I used to label myself scemo as I had scene style with the bright hair but I liked emo bands im also far from straight edge so yeah
Current scene from tiktok and Instagram is not scene it’s e fashion
Also scene is short for what? Where did you get that from? Genuinely curious as I can’t find anything about that anywhere…
