      Easily going to spend 20 or 30 pounds on a meal?! Not true at all. Bland food? Errr no not at all. There's everything. I'm very much confused by your comments and so is my American girlfriend. People don't want American cereals and sweets in general so the section is small. Confused about your comments about washing and drying. Many houses have dryers and washing machines come in all sizes. Loads taking 8 hours? Again confused. Wifi? We have wifi everywhere and its superfast if you want it. I know you said these were your experiences. Also charging for everything? You don't pay for tap water, send the water back if it's put on your table. If you don't like to drink then there's no problem is there.
      I am very glad you came and had a good time overall! You are very welcome.

    It’s not a fault that out food is not saturated in salt and/or fat and/or sugar. Ranch dressing is available but since it’s not that popular it may not be in smaller supermarkets. The American section is not ‘what we think Americans eat’ it’s ‘what Brits who have been to America like and will buy’. Dryers are very common, but space is an issue, so washing machines are smaller and some are combi washer/dryers. Unless you pay a lot for a washer/dryer, then the dryer cycle will take forever, just hang clothes on a radiator to dry then ‘fluff it’ in the dryer. UK as a whole has better, faster and cheaper internet than the USA, do not judge a whole city by one building - if you were in an old building then the thickness of the walls can be an issue. Why are things like bottled water and refills not free in Europe? Because we pay our restaurant staff a living wage.

    You don't need to spend twenty pounds for a meal in London, just go in a weatherspoons pub. You'll pay less than half of that and get a drink as well. Go in Macdonalds , Burger King or a fish and chip shop. And certainly outside central London you'll get a meal in a cafe for five or six pounds.

    Anything you buy in a packet/box in a grocery store (presumably you mean a ready meal) is likely to taste bland. That's because you didn't cook it yourself. Nothing in a box tastes as good as your own home cooking. We sent our son off to University with a copy of Delia's Complete How To Cook (Delia Smith) and he came home after 3 years an excellent intuitive cook!

    You can buy Ranch in Tescos, Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons etc etc. Because of obesity and heart disease there have been efforts to reduce butter, sugar and salt. Even some Americans are heeding the warnings.
    It's traditional for Brits to dry their washing outside but I believe that some housing in the States have rules that prohibit that. Bit too trailer park for some.

    The thing about the American food section is, not meaning to be rude much of it does not meet European standards because of additives that are considered dangerous to peoples health. You have to pay for everything in restaurants because staff here have to be paid a real wage, whereas in many parts of the U.S. there are minimum pay exemptions to subsidies the customers food cost, so freebies can be given to make you believe the restaurant owners are generous.

    Lunch time drinking:
    Maybe this is a London thing or depends on the industry or specific firm you work for, but I've lived in Bristol, Sheffield and Coventry and most working people don't drink at lunch time except perhaps on Fridays or if someone in the office is leaving. When they do go to the pub at lunch time it's usually just one or often a soft drink. In all the offices I've worked in if you had 3 pints and stank of booze and appeared drunk you'd probably be sent home and receive either a verbal or written warning. Personally everyone I know would consider it unprofessional to drink that much at lunchtime. Guess it depends on each firms culture.
    Excessive drinking is a problem in the UK but the trend is that this is reducing, especially in young adults.

    You're certainly not wrong about the cost of living. Most of us can't afford to live in London either. The cost of housing isn't just steep, it's a disgrace, produced by successive governments stopping public sector housing building, which restricts supply, and then lowering interest rates so that people could continue to buy houses for a long time on more and more debt, which has hit the buffers because even with cheap loans, people are already too overloaded with debts and just can't afford it on the low pay. How you wifi is entirely depends on the provider signed up to in each house. Most areas you have a choice between telephone company internet or satallite dish internet or cable internet, and it just depends who you choose. We're behind in investment in broadband cabling everywhere, so it can be a lottery.

    Washing machines are smaller to fit small kitchens, 7-10 kg load more than adequate, machines now have to be energy efficient so longer washes, but most have a short wash program, you cannot wash and dry the same weight, you must remove some clothes for the dryer part to work effectively.

Internet : connection speeds and how its contented to an network everywhere on the planet you can get phone line Based, TV cable based, satellite or point to point broadcast. WiFi is generally structural issue I.e more metal /concrete in your walls the worse a wifi signal will be. Average Internet speeds in Europe are higher at a lower cost than north America, but again infrastructure and company takes a huge role.

    Cost of eating is too much for you. Aside from the cost of produce and falafel wraps for 2 pound 50 that you mentioned in your other video, that is

    • @UpTheAnte
      @UpTheAnte  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cost of eating out was, yeah. The grocery store prices weren't terrible though!

      I find it annoying that they don't sell ranch also. To solve this problem I am forced to eat Subway sandwiches a couple times a week!

      Ah that's genius! I never thought to go to Subway for ranch!

  • @hanniffydinn6019
    @hanniffydinn6019 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What the fuck ??? People do have large dryers, and large washing machines! I have ultrafast wi-fi ! These are NOT London specific things !!!
    I've never been charged for water ! Also what I'm holy fuck were you eating that needed so much butter and salt ?
    Americans are massively overweight so maybe you are overdoing that.

    I’m a Londoner born and breed...never paid for tap water ever. It’s possible if the restaurant owner was foreign.

      It's possible you didn't listen to what she said.

    • @musicaltheatergeek79
      @musicaltheatergeek79 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      She said she had to remind herself to ask specifically for 'tap water' because when she had simply said 'water' they brought her a bottled water and, of course, charged her for it. In the US, you don't have to specify.

    Charming, but the issues sound a bit like student life. Wi-Fi, we have some of the fastest in the world. Mine is 100Gb and fibre delivered, but there are much faster available. It is true our food is not laced with sugar and salt, but that's a good healthy thing isn't it? Booze in the negative list; really? 😂😂😂👍

      What does "European Cuisine" even mean??

    • @anacapinha441
      @anacapinha441 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheshire Hat Europe has so many cultures, so many different people, languages and ways of living, you couldn’t expect, per example that the British cuisine is the same as the Portuguese, or the French... just don’t generalise.
