      Wireless charging is good for the feature when there will be wireless pads integrated in tables at restaurants and cafes but until then I can easily live without it. Dash charging is better and more efficient to use at home.

      They still sell 9R for 39999. Back in 2018 OP6 8+128 was priced 39999. Sure there are other manufacturers stepping into the game and really redefined VFM proportions even 20% cheaper than OP for Equivalent hardware. But OnePlus Stays at that price and I won't expect it to step down in pricing. But whats bugging me is Release of "budget" phones and keep their best for Overpriced Pro editions.

    I enjoy the approach to this review. Rather than listing specs and blindly comparing to the big dogs, you take into account *why* certain features are the way they are. I think OnePlus went to great lengths to understand the consumer rather than just trying to jump into the massive arms race of tech.
    During the California Gold Rush clever folks went out for Gold; While the *smart* ones sold shovels.

    I still have this OnePlus 6. Great phone! Still pretty smooth, they fixed the gestures, cameras are ok with GCam, software updates are still coming, but the Android updates are slow tho and the battery doesn't last as long as they used to. I'm thinking about getting a new battery and keeping the phone for at least one more year.

    Thank you OnePlus for keeping the headphone jack. My main complaint is the glass back. If they're not going to include wireless charging then I would have much preferred a matte/brushed metal back. They feel nicer than glass, get less fingerprints and there's no chance of cracking. It probably costs less as well.

Still runs all day without trouble, biggest change is that I went from charging every other day on average to every evening. I dont think android companies understand why alot of people still use them over iphones.
    1. Freedom
    2. Memory expansion (sd card)
    3. Customization
    4. New features prior to iphones getting them (even though people pretend its new when apple does it.
    5. Headphone jack
    The more android companies move in the direction of apple, the more people will just jump ship. My mentality is if im going to own an iphone like device ill just buy an iphone. Im not a fanboy. I dont swear allegiance to plastic regardless of the company

      2 & 5 many have dropped. I don't get the headphone jack why get rid of it? People still used wired headphones. Maybe because of waterproofing. But why is that really needed. Who swim's with a phone in their pocket? Dropping the micro SD I get. Unless you are very media heavy they are worthless. After android 4.4.4 you couldn't download straight to it anyways so its not like it really gives you anything except media storage. I thought I would really miss it but with 64gb that can be used for anything and a phone not full of bloat I don't miss it at all. All the other things are easily fixed with custom ROMs. So really the headphone jack disappearing is the only real loss.

    • @Ex0rz
      @Ex0rz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      AJ S My S7 is totally waterpoof and it still has the headphone jack. So thats not the excuse. The only excuse for not having it is the looks and being "cutting edge" or something. But yeah the lack of a headphone jack is the only reason i didnt buy the new Nokia 8 Scirocco. Wired headphones AFAIK have better sound quality and at least wont need charging. Also I have a pair of almost 200eur wired headphones.... So I'm seriously not gonna buy a phone that has no headphone jack even tho i could use an adapter.

    • @ajs622
      @ajs622 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Ex0rz I'm glad that there are still a few hold out companies still using headphone jacks. While I do have Bluetooth earbuds and really like the freedom wireless provides, I also have wired headphones that sound way better than Bluetooth. Wired headphones will always provide better sound. So I agree I wouldn't buy a phone without a headphone jack. Unless of course every company dropped it. Let's just hope that doesn't happen. I just recently got the oneplus 5t while it doesn't have IP certification I've seen some convincing videos of it surviving 5 mins completely submerged, and it too has a headphone jack.

    Now, after 4 years, my OP6 is still going strong. Best phone I had, period! No single problem in all those years and still 40% battery life at the end of the day. Recently bought the Pixel 6 pro, but send it back because it was not an improvement over this phone. Only downside of the phone was the glass back that broke twice. After the last break, I put a protection sticker and that problem was solved. Wish I could use it longer, but 3g calling discontinued in my country and this phone does not support voLTE, so the call quality became shit. Too bad. Btw, I love the fingerprint scanner on the back. It's fast and the placement really convenient. No problem with the size at all.

    I really wish reviewers stopped mentioning wireless charging. It’s not a feature that is important. It’s not a deal breaker. It doesn’t add huge amounts of convenience to your life.
    Picking up a cord and plugging it in takes 3 seconds max. Dropping it in a pad takes one second. Saving two seconds on charging your phone isn’t game changing.

      Dude honestly I bought a wireless charged just because they're super cheap and my phone happens to have wireless charging. When you go to sleep and you just drop your phone on the pad without having to search for the cable in the dark and stretch and in the morning just picking you phone up with one hand no having the danger of accidentally pulling on your charging cord it's just so nice. It's not a dealbreaker but it's a super nice feature to have. Plus it helps with preserving you battery life. It's healthier to charge wirelessly.

    Great review MKBHD. I've had this phone for about a day now and I'm honestly blown away. I don't understand some complaints people have, none of them bother me. The battery life is enough for a full day, plus dash charging is ridiculously fast for those that somehow blow through their battery life. I've never used a screen that's 1080p+ but I can say that the screen is the best looking screen I've seen for 1080p, it gets bright enough for outdoor use and dark enough for late night use and the colors look fantastic (I personally use it on the custom setting all the way to the 'cold' side, i think it looks best that way). I've never used or plan on using wireless charging so it missing that doesn't bother me. The speaker is enough for occassonal videos and what not, but I personally wear headphones 95% of the time so that's not a problem to me (oh p.s., there's a headphone jack, it's sad that's considered a plus in 2018) and once the new OnePlus wireless headphones come out, I know those things will never come off. The thing I was afraid of most was the notch, and honestly, it isn't noticable, and this is coming from someone who thought they would never even try a phone with one and if for whatever reason you just can't stand it, you can "turn it off" in the software. Storage wise 128gb is more than I'd ever need, so no sd slot isn't a minus for me either. The face and fingerprint unlock is insanley fast and this phone is unnecessarily smooth, I swear nothing can slow this thing down. And for those saying it's bad for not having water protection, just don't use the phone in the bath, you should be washing yourself anyways, and put it in your pocket when you're taking a leak, it's that easy. I hate all the people trying to put this phone down because it's missing certain features, especially the people saying wait for the next one because it will be better. Of course it will be better, but if you're in need of a new phone then I'd highly recommend it, if your phone is still good and you think you can wait a few more months for the 6t or 7 or whatever it's called, then wait. But stop putting this phone and everyone that has bought it down just because YOU don't think it's worth it. Missing those things does not make it a bad phone by any means. This phone is by far the greatest phone I've owned, I'm absolutely blown away and I feel anyone who buys it will be just as impressed and happy with their purchase. Thanks for listening, and if you bought the OnePlus 6 too, then enjoy it! I know I am.

    wireless charging & water resistant = two things I can always live without. We managed fine for years and years without them before and I don't know about you, but I give literally zero craps about them now. They aren't points for what makes a good phone to me. If one has it, OK fine. If it doesn't? OK fine.
    Headphone jack still matters to me, just because I have enough devices in USB ports that need charging as it is. Its nice to have one that doesn't and often, they sound much better.
    The notch doesn't really bother me (although getting in the way of videos, like on the iPhone, would. I thought the rounded corners on my s9+ would bug me, but they don't.

    Best review I've seen of the phone. Very well done. I've been using a 1+5 since it came out. I post pics and videos all the time, all over social media. Nobody has ever said the media quality looked like it was taken by a "cheap" phone. So much these days is focused on how good the cameras are, but the reality is, 95% of the public won't notice or care less.
    Same thing with the display. Many people have seen my phone and commented how great it looks, or watched a video I show them and never commented "oh is that only a 1080p display? I could tell"... 😂

      Sayad Khan many people care about wireless charging actually because its a major pathway/platform for companies to develop the true wireless charging that you want.
      So what if you have to plant it? Its very useful and serves a very important function to many people, convenience. Rather then having to plug in your charger like some kind of pathetic puzzle piece you canem easily just place it on the pad... This is great for when you are tired back from work and wanna go straight to bed and you don't have to bend over and plug it in you can just lay it on the pad and bam, relax. And this is especially great and convinient for charging your phone in the car. Not to mention that you don't have to worry about constantly breaking wires etc. Its all about convenience. And its not meant to be a complete alternative... Its there as another option for times where you don't want to use your phone but what to charge it conveniently. Furthermore by investing into this technology today companies can use this for rnd and get real customer feedback so they can develop true true wireless charging where the second you walk into your home or workplace etc your phone will be able to charge
      .. In other words so they can better develop the "WiFi" wireless technology you want. So its actually very useful and important for the future development of REAL wireless charging. Its not a necessity but it is a nice convenient thing to have which is what its all about.

      Because I'd rather make the extra effort of plugging in a wire, if it gives me 40% charge in 20 minutes. Rather than placing the phone on a plate to get like 5% charge. Unless wireless charging tech evolves, I'd not give 2 shits about wireless charging in phones. It's retarded to use wireless charging when you have Dash.

      Exactly. Utterly useless. It's a shame people fall for it, thinking of it as some sort of wifi charging that doesn't necessitate plugging or putting the phone down. I would rather prefer a better screen or battery than a feature that doesn't even let me use the phone while it is employed.

And after 4 years I'm having a phone with Snapdragon 870, now it feels liks dream came true of having your own phone but 4 years is a long time. The fact that my phone cost me less than One Plus 6 and still it's great but again in 4 years my phone would suck a lot.

  • @joaquimley
    @joaquimley 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Hey Marques, Android Developer here
    Devices that have Oreo or above are "Project Treble ready" (I think you've mentioned this in past video(s)), but the good thing here is Google is now pushing OEMs to adopt it, in the very near future the minimum SDK / Android version will gradually get upped.
    Meaning any app wishes to get published or updated will now have a minSdk, so if OEMs what their devices to be compatible, they need to "keep up" with Android.
    Finally getting rid of old Android versions, that'll make apps so much better and the devs will start to get a break from the whole fragmentation, hence Google is starting to partner up with other OEMs for betas, that way they get more testing.

    • @AhnafAbdullah
      @AhnafAbdullah 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      By far, the largest problem with Android OS's was the timescale for which the OS's existed. 4.x stayed for nearly over 2 years, which I think is ideal and perfect for users to get used to the OS, developers to produce apps, and for OEM's to sell new phones that come with the OS.
      But now it seems as though a new OS gets released every 3 months, which is too fast for users to get used to (too much novelty), too less time for developers to update their apps, and too less time for OEM's to modify the hardware to support the new OS

    • @joaquimley
      @joaquimley 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahnaf Abdullah project treble addresses that issue. Im going to assume you're not a Dev, if so sorry for non-technical explanation... Basically OEMs are given a set of instructions, like a contract that the hardware has to follow, and Google will handle the integration on the OS side, so any device that runs Oreo or above will see updates way faster, OEMs have an easier transition since the contract remains the same. This exactly what happens on the iOS world, but Apple controls both the software and the hardware.
      That being said, the way we develope apps has been historically hard and painful, and Google is addressing these issues while bringing the whole platform to the modern age. Trust me it is a good thing ;)
      Also development cycle is around 2weeks, so we always update apps hehe
