I love these long videos I work nights I watch them before going to bed. 🥰 Bruce Jenner, Sugar Ray Leonard, Nadia Comaneci and Edwin Moses are the names I remember from that Olympic.
Most of the comments seem to be about trains, but to answer your question about the 1976 Winter Olympics. It was special to us in the UK when John Curry won the men's Figure Skating gold medal and changed the whole concept of skating forever. He paved the way for the transition from just pure technical ability to skating as an art form.
Makes me want to take a train trip. The last one I had was from DC to Denver. My ears loved it. No vertigo from air travel. Also, I had 3 hours to walk around Chicago.
Its nice to see a passenger train with more than six or seven cars. I'm old enough to remember when the California Zephyr and the 20th Century Limited were trains of this length.
Passenger trains in North America before Amtrak used to have a dozen or more mail cars on their consists. Unfortunately the USPS terminated all of their railroad mail contracts when they chose to FLY the mail instead, the motto was hours instead of days... This was snail mail... And folks today wonder why the railroad operating what is presently the northeast corridor went bankrupt? While riding Amtrak or Via maybe slower than flying, you do get to see the country, not fly over it...
@@ronclark9724 In January 66(?) I was on the 20th Century (coach) headed back to college. The train was divided into two sections with the coach section running 20 to 30 minutes behind.

@j.cristinamendivil660 most superheroes from Winnipeg Edmonton and Calgary prefer Vancouver as their base of operations mostly because of the warm weather in bcs lower mainland and as the largest city in western Canada Vancouver would mostly get superheroes from within the western provinces bc Alberta Saskatchewan and Manitoba and Vancouver has been the superhero capital of Canada since hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics and Vancouver is the first Canadian city in history to create a lateral superhero entry program which allows a superhero from any where in the country Canada wide to establish Vancouver that city has their base of operations
This trip looks amazing! And I'm a huge olympics fan too -- I think the biggest star of those games had to be Nadia Comaneci, and her perfect 10 in gymnastics, but it also got Bruce Jenner on the Wheaties box for setting the decathlon record. Bonus that Sugar Ray Leonard won gold in the boxing too. Lot of famous names in those games!
Great Video from my favorite team....Planning a trip starting in Nova Scotia on The Ocean train going west to Montreal, then to Vancouver on The Canadian. Winter will be our time for travel based on availability of the class of service we have elected. So, your videos are fundamental for our planning...You're the greatest...Thanks so much.
I'm glad this trip to Canada continues. The video I saw in the Canada Rockies just stopped and I was enjoying the trip and train Canadian train. Thanks for the continues of the trip!
Just love all your videos! I uselessly take the train from Cleveland to Chicago and then to El Paso TX to visit my sister in Alamo. NM I only wish the trains were clean and more updated for the price they charge…enjoy stay safe can’t wait until your next video.
Glad you enjoyed it! We had so much fun, and would really love to spend more time in Toronto. We only had 3 nights there, but we spent 28 nights in Edmonton.
I can remember as a child going on a camping trip around Lake Superior and watching the Montreal Olympics on a little black and white TV we had set up in our trailer. The big star was gymnast Nadia Comaneci from Romania, who racked up seven perfect 10 ratings.
This video gives a sense of what train 1 and the lesser publicised train 2 The Canadian are all about . The places on route make the journey all the better. I've done a Summer and Winter journey and they showed Canada 🇨🇦 off so well.
I'm amazed at how ViiaRail has kept these vintage (65+y/o) cars in such great working condition. There are a few of these cars in the U.S. that are privately owned, but they're for charter & are incredibly expensive. People may complain ViaRail's sleeper car fares are expensive, but it's worth trying at least once. The observation dome car (Park Car) is usually found at the rear of trains & offer the best views. My guess is it probably requires a lot of switching to place them where they need to be. There weren't many built & are a huge draw for train enthusiasts worldwide.
It is pretty incredible when you are in them to think about the age. We felt blessed to have the park car on the train, even if there was another car behind it. It was truly something to experience.

Hello both. This brought some memories of a trip I made on the Canadian 25 years ago. I did this with a tour company based in the UK. We landed in Ottawa, our first trip by train was to Toronto from Ottawa. Via rail ran out of food for mid day meal so they rung ahead and we had fast food delivered one stop later. After a couple of days in Toronto we took the Canadian to Jasper. I remember toping at Sioux Lookout and the loco was refuelled there. We stopped and got off at Jasper, luckily it was Canada’s celebration day so we saw plenty of fireworks. I was in Silver Class as it was known then. After a break in Jasper we caught the train to Prince Rupert with a hotel stop in Prince George. After one night in Prince Rupert and then the ferry to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island. After a break in Victoria it was on the island ferry to Vancouver airport and the trip home. Would love to do this in winter rather than summer, health stops me I’m afraid.
Rob...I don't consider Tim Hortons a "real meal" but they do have good food though. I consider a real meal as one that you sit down at a table and wait staff.
@@GroundedLifeTravel I hope that you didn't take my message wrong. I don't feel that it is a real meal, but it is a good choice for their meals and service. Was it just my tablet playing up, or, was there no sound when Rob was talking when at Hockey Hall of fame or there abouts. He was by a window.
was it cold in the cars.... Also didn't seem like many people on the train like you had it to yourselves. When did you actually travel
The only way I would go to Canada is in the middle of summer. It is way to cold for me any other time of the year
