    I think this is a great series to kick off.
    One of the things I like the most about Pillars’ lore is how invested the story and world is in the pantheon of its gods, and vice versa.
    A lot of modern fantasy is strangely… atheistic? Post-theistic? Post-mythology? Where something like magic is the last, surviving influence of a god or gods that haven’t touched the world since its creation.
    That the gods of Eora are still quite active - touching newborns, active manifestations, much less direct interactions - lends narrative weight to the _fantasy_ part of “fantasy world” that is increasingly hard to come by elsewhere.
    Keep up the good work, sir.

      Same. I really REALLY love how much Pillars emphasis how important their gods are in the game.

      Interesting comment taking into consideration that there are no TRUE gods in Eora. The whole concept of the games supports the atheistic dogma ...The ...'Pillars' of the story is the misconception that there are gods.

    Cool to see this. Big Elder Scrolls fan from Morrowind and Skyrim and I'm really excited for Avowed. Interesting to see an Elder Scrolls-like game like Avowed (in theory) already have it's own multi game story and lore to explore before it even comes out
    Not too into isometric rpg's so can't say I'll play the originals, but what they've set up so far seems cool

    It saddens me when people tell me Baldur's Gate 3 is the most innovative game they've played when other CRPG titles like PoE exist without their knowledge. Hell, I didn't even know the game came out in the 2010's because it looked so retro. Only after looking for a good pirate game was this title suggested. I played it and, while Black Flag is still the best pirate game ever created (which also saddens me), this game makes a close 2nd. I love the 16-17th century inspiration and it's a breath of fresh air from other fantasy titles. If only I supported this game in its heyday. I feel like I've robbed them by buying the complete edition for a mere CAD$12.

    How Poe II can be worse IMO it's better than it's predecessor, romance could be better but hey the story is interesting.
    Unlike in other fantasy Gods here is actively involved with Mortal they ofc have their own view of the world and alignment but they wanted their vision to happen this feel more like Greek pantheon that constantly scheming unlike other fantasy settings that portray God as passive watchful force and only source of divine magic.
    Not gonna lie most my interaction with this Deity as a watcher usually end with 'I will consider it" Learning from Pillars of Eternity I promising something to a God is binding so I learn to give it consideration rather than openly accept it, they're cunning, they're clever and they're powerful even when I met Rymgard during animancy quest he wanted to destroy me I have no choice but stay silent but in the end he doesn't want to cross Berath from my understanding yo give allegiance to one God is not wise sometimes the best solution do come from different unexpected source at least in my understanding, keeping good grace with every God is crucial, always willing to listen to them, be critical about them and be open minded to each of them.
    I have God that I loathed with every fiber of my being in world of Eora but even so I am willing to listen of what they have to say such God is Wordica, Skaen, Magran (obviously because what she done to our Chatty Priest in POE I) I do hate Berath as well do her lack of compassion but she can be reason with, Hylea? I have this sinking feeling that she always have intention behind her good and benevolent word, Abydon while he is honest he is very blunt he is straightforward and it's hard to wiggle common ground with him, I am pretty undecided with every God I feel none of them should be followed with unquestionable loyalty, unlike in DnD setting as A drow for example the most rational decision of picking your pantheon would Eilistraee while she is weaker than Vheraun or Loth she is most reasonable and doesn't involve with risk that your God turning back at you for arbitrary reason, she do have her bad side like for example exibitionism and the like but I feel this is quite minor considering the other option, in pillar of eternity I don't get this feeling I feel they are all quite gray choice.

    It's a shame POE2 wasn't as good as 1. I think it was the gimmicky ship mechanics, and the ship map that kind of detracted from it. I really hope they don't completely abandon the isometric style, though.

    Gotta say, I did not like the writing in this setting and the combat also felt overly complicated and clunky in the games. PoE was the game that broke the spell of Obsidian for me. Why do people like it so much?

    • @spellandshield
      @spellandshield  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      De gustibus non est disputandum. Apart from that, I would say the setting has some fairly unique features not found in other fantays settings. I don't particularly like Divinity as a franchise but I know a lot of people do, so tastes differ. You probably take it for granted but you being a native speaker of Hungarian is like a super power to me, it is like you are speaking magic every day of your life. Incredible.
